The anomaly is that it started to happen to all the iphone 12's at the same time. I don't use the phone much and don't run it hard, never play videos ect. I believe it's a firmware/ios timer in an update to burn the batteries so Apple can increase revenue. For me the question is, do I really want to do any business with a company that treats their customers like this...

There's also quite a few "my iPhone 12 is running too hot" threads on this forum. For all we know there's an unfixable errata in the A-Chip that's wreaking havoc with the battery. If there was, aple engineers certainly would know about it but definitely wouldn't be able to talk about it.
If it was a fatal flaw in the SOC killing the battery, that would mean a factory recall of hundreds of millions of iPhones.
We all know that'll never happen - so my (conspiracy) is... Aple knows exactly what's causing the accelerated battery degradation, but since it's unfixable, they're just biding their time.

if this was the case the events would be sporadic. Most of the battery health complaints started at the same time after the 14.6 or 14.7 update, don't remember which. It's software, not hardware is what i believe. If I remember correctly, a lot here were citing the same battery health value...strange don't you think?

My iPhone 12 Pro Max doesn’t run hot at all because I have disabled 5G and I don’t make heavy use of the camera. Despite that, my percentage is down to 91% after being at 93% just two weeks ago.

With that said, I got 14 hours of screen time with a full charge the other day after I reset my phone’s settings so I think the software is just reporting it wrong.

I’ve been reading through the few threads that are discussing the battery issues that many people are having and it do seem like there a lot of bad batteries that were installed in the 12 series or either there is a software issue. My battery capacity is at 97% after 8 months, and my device will end at 20% by 11pm on a very busy day. For those who are experiencing the battery issues with batteries under 90%, Apple should replace their batteries free of charge. It’s crazy that they are saying this is normal. In all of my years owning iPhones, I’ve never seen batteries this bad. My 2 year old XS Max is still at 97%. Something is definitely going on.

It is more than a battery issue. Apple has started GUTTING the phones, leaving only the screen and camera module, and replacing everything else in the phone: Battery, Magsafe, logic board, etc instead of just swapping out phones. That tells me there is a hardware issue and they have been replacing too many phones, so they came up with a fix to swap components.

My 12 Pro Max is still on the iOS version it was shipped with: iOS 14.1 and I am at 93%. There has to be a hardware issue with the phones and not software.

How do you know the issue didn’t just come with iOS 14? I know when I was running the 14 betas on my XS Max I had my battery drop pretty fast too. That’s ultimately what prompted me to get the 12 Pro Max since I wasn’t at 80% yet but I know 85% wouldn’t last another year. With AppleCare expiring I would be paying $69 to replace the battery and losing even more trade in value too so I just said screw it and jumped.

Still on 100 on both 12 Pro (iOS14) and 12 Pro Max (iOS 15)

My iPhone battery is not holding a full charge all day long anymore. I’m no longer getting all day battery life anymore :( it dies very fast now, ugh!!!

I literally have to charge my iPhone twice a day now. So annoying!

In order for my phone to last from 6am-6pm I have to keep it on low power mode all day. I only charge on my way to work (7 minute trip) and picking my kids up in the evening (10 minute trip) and back home for another 10 minutes. I finish the day at 20% on a good day.

I feel for anyone who has a 12 mini - if the battery in the 12pm is this bad, the mini must need to be charged after about 36 minutes of use 🤣
Why? If I have a tougher day, I'm at 55% around 5-6pm, If I'm having a lighter day I'm at 75% at that time. 12 mini is not the best, true, but at the same time I have never seen any problem to get me through the full day. 🙂

I left the house at 7am with 100%. At 3:45pm I put my phone on the charger with 45% left. I listened to music for 6 hours with my AirPods and had a 30 minute phone call. I’ve now resorted to bringing my portable charger with me to top up before I get home from work.

I’m another that in last week or so I drain battery by end of day.

Since I got it I’ve been finishing my day with around 50%.
Very strange.

100%. After 1 year.
i have smart plug that turns off now at 96%

That is genius.

I have a battery alarm app that goes off when the phone hits 80% but that requires me to manually unplug the phone.

I am not really ready to trust smart devices yet though. We have a Nest thermostat and that’s it (and that thing was annoyingly setting the AC temp to 80-82 for a few weeks too).

I have hit 100% about 10 times during the last 11 months until I got the smartplug that works with Apple Homekit.
On my Tesla, I have hit 100% maybe 2 times in 2 years when I was charging for road trips.
If you’re driving a Tesla you can surely afford a replacement battery. Why not use the iPhone however you like and just get the battery replaced after 2 years if you’re still keeping it? Saves you all the trouble. That time could be better enjoyed actually using the iPhone.

I'm at 89% on my 12 Pro already. After 8 months of use.
88% on my December 12 Pro Max (a day before the phone turns 9 months old).

Apple says it’s normal to lose 12% in 9 months, lol. At this point, I don’t even care anymore. If it hits 80% under a year then I’ll claim my replacement or I’ll just pay for it later. But I'm very dissatisfied with the battery on this phone.

Not the OP, but I also use a automated custom optimization with smart plug. Aside from the 0.5hr to initially program the set-up, what ‘trouble’ are you referring to? How are we not ‘using the phone’? Unless of course you mean not using a full 100% charge everyday - FWIW my phone is capable of 15hrs SOT but I only have enough time/interest for about half that, or ~8hrs/day.

This is like flipping on Apple’s ‘optimization’ setting - just set it and forget it, plug in once a day like anyone else.

Personally, it would cost me ~3hrs for the drive & appointment to swap a battery, so that’s a lot more trouble. Also seeing all these battery health/SOT complaint threads/posts, it seems to me anyways, is causing folks a lot more upset and anxiety, then just using an automated custom optimization in the first place and being satisfied with battery performance.

Apple could easily include a couple battery settings in the iOS General Setting so folks could set-up their own custom optimizations… but that of course would result in longer upgrade cycles and reduced sales.

Just my $0.02, YMMV and all.
