It’s definitely not, from my experience. After a full year I’m still on 96% battery health solely using Apple’s 20W brick.
If I was at 96%, I wouldn't complain. After 11 months of using my 12 PM with the 20w brick and the cable that came with the phone, I'm at 82% battery health. On top of that, Apple says this is expected behavior. Ridiculous!

6S+ on 14.2 is 94%.. 12PM also on 14.2, ALSO at 94%.. both charged with same 5w brick. Very strange but the PM is also the first phone I’ve ever had a trade up program for. I’ll miss the Pacific Blue when I upgrade to the 14PM but maybe it’s not all bad since this battery health is weird.

My launch day iPhone 12 Pro Max is at 94% as of today. I charge it on a 3rd party wireless charger connected to a 30W anker nano. For the most part I charge it daily at night with battery optimization enabled.

My iPhone 11 was at 100% after a year and it was charged the same way as my 12 (different charger brands since it didn't have MagSafe)

Both phones have/had low usage as i also have an iPhone SE from work.

Although my battery is still in the 90's it does seem worse then previous years. From what I can tell its now dropping 1% every 1-2 weeks

I don’t want to part with mine, so I’m trading my XS Max in next year (I know it won’t fetch much) and I’m keeping my 12 Pro Max as a back up phone. I’m going to get the battery replaced before I upgrade to the 14 Pro Max.

when I traded in my iPhone 12 pretty much exactly one year since new, its battery life percentage was surprisingly around 90% or so. I always charged wirelessly via Qi charger at night, and spent hours upon hours plugged into my car via lightening for CarPlay. definitely think it was worn way more than it should've been given it was only a year old.

I wonder if those who had their batteries changed were given the same battery manufacturer that their iPhone had when it was manufactured in the factory?

I don’t really either (used to keeping my phones - I’ve got at least one of 3GS/4S/5/6S/7/8) but trying to see the glass half full, heh.

Quick update: My battery health is down to 81% with 334 cycles. I have 8 days left on my warranty. Considering there's no way this battery will stay at 80% by 500 cycles, which is what Apple states it should, I decided to contact Apple support once more, who once again said they don't see a problem and to contact them once the battery health is at 80%. Apple's customer service has become absolutely garbage compared to what it used to be. I'll just pay and get my battery changed next month once my warranty expires, but man has this entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth. These practices are purely unethical, when you know your products won't live up to the promised life, at least acknowledge and replace it under warranty.

I know what you mean. It took me 4 tries just to get my battery replaced. I told them I was willing to pay for it. I kept on going to different apple stores. On the fourth try I got somone who understood where I was coming from, I showed him my battery performance Not just the health. I’m hoping the issue doesnt come back with the replacement battery. So far its been 2 months and 2 weeks since I got the replacement and no issues so far. Battery health is still at 100%. I make sure to only use the 5w apple charger now.

When I traded in my iPhone 12 Pro a week ago its health was at around 90% (don't remember exactly). What I noticed was that it had dropped significantly over the last 2-3 months. I believe it was still at 100% last June/July, then it started to drop. First weeks it stayed above 98%, but from September or so it felt like 1% every week or so. Really sucks. It prompted me to upgrade to the 13 series, cause replacing the battery life felt like the worst investment to me, especially as I was planning on upgrading anyway. Although it was not my plan to upgrade so soon. :(

I am incredibly happy with my 13 Pro Max, zero regrets about it. But fearing that it'll happen again, I have been reading a lot about how to keep battery health at decent performance, like charging up to 80%, not letting it a drain below 20% etc. But also trying to keep it off the charger for two days (which I managed to do last weekend). Hopefully it won't be as bad as last time around.

But yeah, battery health dropped significantly these past months. No doubt it would've reached 80% before the end of the year.

I took it to the Apple authorized service providers the last time I spoke with support, showed them the performance, they kept the phone for a week to run their 'tests', and just restored the phone saying there's no issues with it. This was in late July, and the battery health at the time was 93%.

Similiar thing happen to me. Had an appointment at the Genius Bar apple store. My phone got flagged by the system they insisted on sending the phone back to apple to do further tests. They kept it for a week and said they could not replicate my issue. I just kept on trying on not giving up and going back to another apple store after each try.

Seems like quite a hassle, and of course, extremely unprofessional behavior on the company's end.

My 12 PM warranty just expired and battery health went down from 100-94% in about 6 weeks. Always charged with just the 5w charger and never really drained to 0 with close to 250 cycles.

My 12 Pro Max is at 88% battery health. I purchased it at the end of January of this year. Since it’s above 80%, Apple claims it’s normal wear and tear for 220+ cycles and refuses to do anything about it. The battery has never drained below 20%, but I’ve been charging exclusively using MagSafe.

Dude my warranty just expired yesterday. I’m at 80% health with 245 charge cycles, and apple says it’s in good condition. Charged wired with the official 20w power brick.

I’ll just pay and get the battery replaced in the next week or so. Unfortunately, there’s not much else we can do.

Aren’t you eligible to get monthly AppleCare+? I’m also having weird touch screen issues that happens randomly and can’t be reproduced. I’ve reluctantly started paying for AppleCare+ and will probably get my phone replaced in the next few weeks.

You can only get apple care+ within 60 days of purchase. I'm not the kind of person who damages/breaks phones, so I don't see any utility of paying upwards of $350 (That's the conversion of what it costs in my country) for Apple care+, so I didn't purchase it.

The option to purchase AppleCare+ only shows up in the settings app for 60 days after purchase. You can now add AppleCare+ within 1 year of the purchase date, but you need to go to an Apple Store to do this (see source below). I could have sworn there was a grace period after the 1 year warranty expires.

Anyway, I don’t usually purchase AppleCare+, but with these month to month plans, you basically only need to pay 1 month of AppleCare+ ($9.99) and you get a free battery replacement within warranty vs the $59.99 out of warranty battery replacement.

Edit: This is for the US. I’m not sure if monthly AppleCare+ is available in your country.

What other company warranties batteries like this that makes Apple so unprofessional ?
I'm not sure about other companies, but Apple claims that they'll replace any battery which falls below 80% battery at 500 cycles on their website. My battery health was at 80% with 345 cycles. By digging into the log files, I can tell it was at 79.5%, naturally Apple could also see this data. So there's no way it was going to stay at 80% by the time it reaches 500 cycles. I brought this to their attention, they STILL claimed it was in good condition, refusing to change it under warranty.

If they deny that their products are underperforming and refuse to hold true to their claims, wanting customer to pay to get a replacement for their inferior products, I don't know what else to call them besides unethical.

Well I’ll agree with you that I wish Apple would allow us to replace the batteries when we want - especially if we pay for it. Friends and family that I know with Apple Care+ have usually had better luck with warranty claims when it came to batteries. Definitely seems like in the last 3-4 years Apple has become very reluctant to change batteries.

I've never used my phones to the point where I've had to claim a battery replacement in just under a year and now having to pay for it, especially it being such an expensive phone has left a bitter taste in my mouth. Funnily enough, it is now at 79%, one day after my warranty expired.

Just checked my 12 Mini. It's down to 90%. I bought it in early April, I believe. The battery live has never been particularly great, but subjectively seemed to take a hit when iOS 15 came out. It definitely sees a lot of charge/discharge cycles, but I wasn't expecting it to be quite down to 90%.
