Question, do third party retailers (e.g. Best Buy) typically release new models the same day as Apple?

I'd like to take advantage of the airline miles and 0% financing Best Buy offers.

Depends on available supply, but usually yes. Apple helps manage the mini-Apple stores inside big box retailers.

Haswell Imacs are pointless... 10-15% clock for clock performance improvements, much improved integrated graphics (useless) and huge power savings (useless).

Haswell however, can't come soon enough for the Macbooks.

The next two years with Haswell and Broadwell are going to make current MacBook Air and Pro owners upgrade en masse.

Yes, unless the imac is made thinner, in which case will the Haswell chip need less cooling and therefore be very useful?

An old friend is in town Tuesday night and just asked if I wanted to meet up. I'm thinking I would rather be in front of my PC streaming the keynote. How much of a Fanboy am I?

Just go on twitter on your iPhone you will surely know everything thats happening. Follow Macrumors live (I think its called that)

Just for interests sake, the BTO 27" high-end is showing as 2 - 3 weeks on the UK Apple store.

That points to a November shipping date...?

Yeah, it's crazy really, to think someone could order their BTO iMac now, and some of us could have the next gen iMac before they even got theirs.

As for the magic mouse discussion, I wouldn't be surprised if that gets re-designed. If it does, I want it to be more chunky.

Thats absolutely shocking, you ought to be ashamed!

Can't believe you would watch it on a PC?
:p

I know, I know. It's going soon I promise!

Not on twitter. Plus I'm of that age that if someone's driven 100 miles to see you, you don't spend the night on your iPhone.

Yet you want to spend your evening in front of your PC. How about don't log in to macrumors and other sites all day tuesday (Blasphemy) Enjoy seeing your friend. Once your friend leaves go download the keynote and Enjoy!

If you are ordering online and want it soon I advise you keep your finger on the pulse somehow, unless you want to be at the back of the queue

With the 15" retina Macbook Pro, I debated buying it for a day after the keynote before finally ordering one, it took 3 weeks to ship.

Sounds like a plan. He may have to cancel if his baby is born so hopefully his wife can come up trumps. The last time me and my mates met up was the day the iPhone 5 came out. I was in Bath having a good time with my mates, whilst my shinny new iPhone was sitting in a box at home! Talk about divided loyalties. Just incase you didn't know my friends don't share my love of all things apple.

If his baby is born everyone wins you could suggest the name Steve.

Nooooooooooooooooo! They wouldn't be available to order Tuesday night would they? I was planning on driving to the apple store in Birmingham and picking one up, unless I go BTO which is unlikely.

It's actually 1 of the possibilities! It's his 5th kid so he's used his favourite names. But how did you know I was called Steve?

Well I can only speculate, but yes, it will hopefully be made available on the Apple store straight after the Keynote, just like the retina MBP, latest MBP's, latest Airs, latest iPad and most other launches that I can remember. Though we don't know if the 27" will be available straight away, I hope it is.

It's so much fun, people are tearing their hair out because the store is terribly slow when they put it back up.

As for buying in store, it depends on demand and supply, with the rMBP, none of the stores had any for about 4 weeks after launch. My local store is Birmingham too, at just 40 miles away.

I've been waiting since February so what's another 4 weeks. No wait what am I saying..... It will be hell.
40 miles from Brum? What about Solihull is that any closer to you? I can get to both about as quickly, but Solihull is such a small shop.

Are you guys going to be getting the 21 or 27inch models? I want to get the 27inch model but not sure if my desk which has a depth of 65 cm is bigger enough and would the text be too small because of the high res?

I think I will order online but doubt it will be 4 weeks waiting time, desktops aren't as popular as laptops.

I'm undecided at the moment. We don't even know they will be the 2 options. I too think 27" is too big for my small study and desk, but I have concerns over the heat in a 21" model, especially if they have made it thinner.

I am north from Birmingham, so that's my closest, to be honest, if you are stuck with a 3 week ship date, you can run around frantically trying to find a third party supplier like argos that has stock, it is all part of the fun.

I've got KRCS just down the road. I'm tempted to buy from them. I had a chat with the manager and he was pretty sure they would have stock within a few days of launch. As its my first Mac I'd rather go through it instore than just order online. Of course I can always pester Macrumors members if I have any problems.
