Why "Terrible battery"?

Because people assume smaller battery = worse.

But they always forget to take into consideration that a smaller phone doesn't need to draw as much power vs a bigger phone. Plus when combined with an A9 the 5se will probably have better battery life than the original 5s and probably equal life to a 6 or 6s. Because Apple pretty much always strives for 10 hour battery across all their devices. I don't think the new 5se will be any lower than that.

If the rumoured 1624mAh battery capacity turns out to be true along with efficient A9 SOC, it'll probably have better battery life than the 6S which has a 1715mAh battery!

After one and a half year of usage (iPhone 6/6s) I came to a conclusion that it is not really comfortable holding the 4.7" models on my hand and the design is not as nice as the 5S. Yesterday when I played with my sister's 5S, I felt much better and I did miss my old 5S a lot to be honest. In my opinion, the 5S design and screen size is perfect for me. If it is not because of faster chip, I would go back to using the 5S again.

So currently I'm putting my hope into the iPhone 5SE design and I hope it would get rid of the camera bump and antenna lines (which are the biggest design flaws of current models). Feature wise, 3D Touch is a nice addition in the 6S but I realised that I did not use it frequently as I expected. So no 3D Touch is not a big deal for me. However, with a price point of an iPhone 6, it should at least have either 2nd gen touch ID or 2GB RAM to make up for smaller screen size. I would not put too much hope for the 2GB RAM since this is the distinguishing feature of 6S but if this handset comes with 1st gen Touch ID it will be a huge disappointment for me.

To sum up, it will be a no brainer for me if the handset:-

- Resembles 5S design with no camera bumps/antenna lines
- Has 2nd gen touch ID (RAM and 3D Touch is not a big deal)
- A9 chip
- Larger battery (if rumors are true)

How do you guys think?

Smaller phones get lower standby life (as it consumes just as much as a large phone), but when you use the phone it consumes much less power.

No, unless they come with magnified glasses. emoticon-with-magnifying-eyeglasses.png

Had the iPhone 6 since it came out. Screen is beautiful and the size is great for reading and browsing. Using it is terrible though. Can't reach things properly. Drop it constantly. Annoying in pants. Just too much many annoyances to really love the phone. If the iPhone 5se has at least the A9/M9 and newest Touch ID for $100 less than the current 6s, I'd be very tempted. If it has the A8 from the 6, no way.

I'd take an A8 with 2GB ran over an A9 with 1.

I can live with milliseconds slower app load times. I could never go back to constant app reloads due to low memory.

If it was 4.2 inches, had a 6S camera and internals minus 3d touch I would be all over it!

I am definitely getting this phone, whether it has 1GB RAM or 2. The 4.7 inch is to big, hence why I sold my S6 to buy this phone. Can't wait :D

If the design is nice I'll consider it, mostly for the additional LTE bands.

If it's just a miniature 6s, I'll wait for the 7.

Who else is shocked by the lack of leaked schematics? We've seen some for the iPad Air 3, but not for this iPhone.

I plan on buying it as soon as it goes on sale. Wasn't even aware of this 5se until about a week ago. I currently have the 6 and at first thought no it'd be a downgrade, but the features that the rumored 5se won't have are things that aren't really a huge deal to me. I love the 4-inch screen size, so I'll be happy to go back.

Better than the 5s for sure, but the A8 transition from the A5 in the iPod touch was not a good indication. Some said the battery was worse. And that was a bigger transition than A7 to A9.

5se and a 6s Plus could be the ultimate iPhone combination for me.

5se being the ultraportable device when I need to travel as light as possible, and 6s Plus when I need all the power and perfection of the larger device.

I'm definitely buying a 5se anyway. I already know it will be an incredible device.

Absolutely!

I miss pocketing my iPhone. I'll deal with the reduced performance/options.

I will be getting a 5SE as I want a 4" phone to compliment my 6+. I was going to get a 5S again so I will wait now. I use my 6+ in my car for satnav and a music hub to my stereo. I can use it for games and pictures and reading. I do not carry an iPad as I travel and don't have the space for one.

Everything I do on my 6+ doesn't require a cellular signal. i will put my sim in my 5SE which I will use purely for calls. Can still keep it in my pocket in the car, while my 6+ is my large screen satnav. Im not going back to 4" satnav. Best of both worlds... Also the smaller phone will be ideal at the gym using my apple watch and BT headphones. Im sold.

I'm interested in what the specs are from a curiosity perspective, but no.

my 6s plus on 9.0.2 jailbroken has been king

If the specs are anything close to what I'm reading, I will be selling my 6S and getting the 5se. I really like the tech improvements of the 6S over the 5S, but the 6S is just too big in my pocket. Now that I have an Apple Watch, I find the 6S' size to be very unwieldy.

Same to me. Some would call it a downgrade, but for me going back to 4" with a few cut of features is not a big problem. When I need a big screen my Mini 4 and Macbook will do the job. As long as the device is light with nice design and fits nicely in my hand/pocket I'd be happy. Miss the good old days!

Could not agree more. Not to mention, the smaller phone market is virtually gone. The only phone that comes to mind is the Sony compact line.

What is the latest news on expected specs? A9 and 2gb ram? Or no reliable leaks yet?
I think 'reliable' and 'leak' are two things you can't fit together in a sentence. And Macrumors has a page specifically dedicated to your first two questions, so I suggest you look there.
