Just a thought out of curiosity; doesn't Microsoft have some stake in NBC? So wouldn't they try to get talking heads onscreen that would bash the competition? The whole 95% thing just smacked of trying to convince people they would be backing the losing horse or something by supporting Apple.

I hate interviewers in general that just try to run over their guests; if you have someone on a show, at least let them finish their sentences  . The host just seemed determined to be skeptical of an iPod phone (side note: my guess is an Apple/T-Mobile initial pairing for this device). The host's fascination on a device needing to be 'technologically interesting' to sell just misses the point of the advantages an iPhone could offer if properly integrated.

Kudos too, to arn for a successful appearance on national tv! It's nice to finally attach a face to a name :)

Congrats Arn! You came across as very knowledgible and concise as to the reasons why Apple does what Apple does so well!

Bring on the iPhone!

CNBC Host Incredibly Rude

Hi - The coverage of the possible impending product release of an Apple iPhone was covered on CNBC (read: MicroSoftNetwork) and the fellow who was the host was incredibly rude to his guests. Talking heads are fine - it's when they feel it's civil to interrupt and shout down the other people that I hit the 'next-channel' button on my remote.

The fellow who was hosting the 'Insiders' segment came off as a threatened bully - added nothing - is obviously not a very intelligent person - disposition to Apple or positive or not - and did little to further HIS cause - which is the inspirationless void of the parent company for that network.

Congratulations, Arn.

MacRumors has now been recognized by the MSM as a premier location for finding opinions about Apple's hypothetical advances. The "clearinghouse" mentality has served us all very well.

Thanks, Arn,

RL

that pissed me off, man did you see that bob guy's face when he said that 95% of computers aren't apple to him? He looked pretty offended. If that was me I would've asked him how many times a month he has to run norton antivirus (that can't always remove every virus, and especially not most spyware) to bog his system down instead of doing something productive on his PC. Or maybe he could just buy a mac and "limit himself to doing only graphics design stuff" like he said.

Arn got away from the brunt of the guy's fierceness, but I think a lot of that credit goes to Arn. His points were coherent and he didn't try to sidetrack into other parts of Apple's business. In a word, Arn didn't come off as a fanboy, and the interviewer appreciated that, and gave Arn a fair shake.

As for arn being a real person... I still think he's a sock puppet. ;)
Agreed the LoopRumors guy wasn't the most sophisticated interviewee I've seen, but the interviewer sucks pretty bad too.

"Apple has a 95% lack of market saturation"? What the hell kind of sentence is that? I think there are journalism schools where trying to cover your ignorance with bogus grammar constructs like that is a hanging offense.

"If it weren't for the success of the iPod, Apple's computers would have been relegated to the graphics design world forever"? Gods, it sounds like a clip you'd find on MSN someplace...

I just kept growling "ease of use" between my teeth that whole time.

Well done, Arn. Good choice of tie.

IMHO, Bob got owned by the host of the show! lol Good job Arn though.

I can't agree more. If you are going to be on a show like that please please get your facts down and be ready to represent.
He mentioned leopard as if the apps aren't available yet.
Arn however seemed ready for action.

I HATED the leopard comment. This guy needs to go to SOR (school of arn)

What's the innovation

Congrats Arn! Well done.

The interviewer was a jerk but he did have a good question. What's the innovation? In a world saturated with cell phones, what does Apple bring to the table?

I thought there was a missed oppertunity here. Both Arn and the other guy were dancing around the issue but it came off like a non-starter. Arn's answer made the most sense by focusing on innovation and integration with iLife, but that point could have been driven home more by pointing out that most phones SUCK when it comes to their interface and integration; and Apple has a proven track record here. They were both saying it, but the argument just didn't come across with much froce of conviction.

Another thing that didn't get mentioned was the latest rumor of the Apple phone using a SIM card and will be sold as an "unlocked" phone. This would allow them to be used with a GSM network like Cingular or T-mobile. The phones success could have dramatic implications for the cell phone industry, changing the whold dynamic of how we buy phones. Rather than the freebies (that suck) with a two year lockin, you buy the phone and have more freedom with your service provider. Apple doesn't have to muck around with being a carrier or negotiating with them; they will just sell a phone that works on their networks. That's the big news here.

That would have shut that bozo up. :p

Wow! I have yet to watch the interview, but I just want to give you a major congratulations on snagging this great opportunity! :D I hope you had fun with it.
