Everyone is eligible for an upgrade in our office with Sprint. One guess which phone was preordered.

BTW, everyone is dumping their Android and BBs. I gave them the option to upgrade and keep their current OS, but there were no takers. I even told them they could go Windows Phone 7, and someone gave me a sad trombone from one open office door in response to the few seconds of awkward silence that followed that offer. LOL!

so you're assuming that everyone getting the iPhone 4S has the iPhone 4? Oh ok. you're also assuming that no one is selling their iPhone 4 for $300+ and covering the cost of the 4S or paying a maximum of around $150 for it? Oh ok.

you're also saying that a MUCH better camera, more storage, faster Internet speed, quicker overall UI, voice commands, iOS5 taking advantage of the A5 processor isn't worth an upgrade? oh ok.

Indeed. It's always nice to see hater drug induced fantasies go to dust :)

I'm not sure I see what the big Whoop is all about.

People are just Lame

OK the big whoop is if you skipped 4, going from 3GS to 4S is big, that's all. And, if you are really into video or photography you will like the 4S a lot more too. The A5 chip seems like a big open-ended plus factor to me as well. Watch the devs run with it.

Sometimes it's hard to tell who's lame without wasting a lot of time keeping score. Easier to live and let live.

Was the 4 Slow ? No
Was the 4 Camera Bad? No
Is iOS 5 only on this new iPhone? NO
Is it a new Design ? NO !
SIRI was an App you could get for ANY iOS Device until recently (They Pulled it for No good reason)

Is this post pathetically hypocritical coming from a member with 964 posts at MR? YES!!!

Maybe 200,000 people just want to buy a phone. Is that so hard to believe? Hint: check out the total size of mobile phone market.

I don't mean this in a disrepectful way but also the publicity of around the passing of Jobs may also have an influence on sales. That is not a criticism, or judgement, just an observation about human behaviour.

. . . because that's exactly what I did.

Was the iPhone 4 slow? No. But the 4S will be faster, and if we have the money to buy something we want why shouldn't we?

The lame people are always the ones worrying about what others are doing.

Exactly, but an unlocked black 4s. That is unless I find a deal on a sg2 to feel like I'm getting something new until the actual ip5 comes out.

The integration between the iPhone, and iPad is enough to keep me excited. That, and I have at least 160 downloaded iOS apps, no way I will lose any of that for a new phone.

So one question is going in my mind.
Since the iPhone 4S is now a "World Phone"
so Verizon/Sprint iPhones will indeed have a SIM card slot.
but will it be locked to AT&T too ?
So the question might sound weird, but is Verizon iPhone locked on AT&T ?

I ordered my Iphone 4S from ATT around 4 AM and under "Order Status Detail" the first Shipment Status says Processing but under the latest update it says Backordered next to Shipment Status. The only item that I ordered that still says Pending Shipment is my Otterbox case.

I have a feeling that some of us will still be waitng for our phones after the October 14th delivery date but then again I could be wrong. I sure hope I am.:eek::eek:

@ 1:50AM PST or so, I was able to get a reservation number from Apple, after countless attempts to purchase. While waiting for the "second email," I realized that my phone number was locked into this reservation. So I used another number in our four family plan to try and order again.

@ 3:30AM, I had an order with two additional bumper cases. By this time I got my second email, and realized I could process my first reservation. However because I used two methods of payment, the system would not allow me to cancel my second order.

As it stands I have a reservation I cannot cancel. I have a pre-order I can't cancel. Therefore my father-in-law just unwittingly used his upgrade eligibility in completing my iPhone order. Did I do that?... yes. oops. I am letting my reservation run out.

By 9:30AM the first part of my order already shipped, by 12:00PM so did the second.

For the phone is states: Processing Items - Future Shipments, Delivers Oct 14 via Postal Mix, but you and I know it's going to be FedEx.

I don't care if the iPhone is not special anymore

...although it was cool to be the first one to get one and getting glances, but I'm really glad that more people are finally understanding good design and not taking mediocre products for an answer. This is what Jobs wanted.

...

I'm not sure I see what the big Whoop is all about.

I can explain it to you: take the best over-all phone on the market, make it much faster, make the camera better, increase it's capacity, and give it an exclusive natural language UI. What's not to whoop about?

Maybe you don't like the iPhone 4 and dont agree it was the best phone. Fine. But a lot of people did.

It's easy to just call people who buy iPhones sheep. But it's weak. It ignores the possibility that people like certain Apple products based on their merits. Now *that* is an irrational emotional assertion.

I agree that certain people are lame... they may not be the same ones (or one) as you ;)

I think these would be better questions.

Is the 4S faster? Yes

Does the 4S Camera have higher Megapixel, better filtering, additional lens, wider aperture and takes pictures faster, AND does 1080p Video? Yes

Will iOS 5 run better on the 4S ? Yes

Was there a need to change the great design of the best iPhone? No

Does the new SIRI app get to shine on the 4S with additional AI logic that wasn't available before? Yes

Does the 4S support more memory? Yes

Does the 4S take advantage of HSPA+ on AT&T? Yes

Is the 4S a World Phone that supports GSM and CDMA? Yes

What's not to like?

Personally, I can't wait for my phone to get here.

You call me a Troll and say you don't mean it in a disrespectful way

RE: Sprint

I don't know what Sprint's numbers were like (yet) just like the rest of you, but I was trying to pre-order a 16GB 4s at midnight PST - not that it matters which model I wanted. Their servers went down to their knees. shop.sprint.com just buckled. So, at 40 minutes after the hour, I gave up and went to bed.

I was able to get through at about 6:30am PST, but only after several "Please try back later" web pages for about 15 minutes.

My point is simply this: Sprint is indeed sold out of the 16GB 4s's. And their servers weren't able to keep up with the load. I doubt we'll see 200k numbers when they do finally report them, but they certainly got hit with a LOT of interest.

You call me a Troll and say you don't mean it in a disrespectful way

You misunderstand. That last para is self contained, and I meant that I didn't mean to be disrepectful when I say that sales may be influenced (upwards) due to the publicity over Jobs' passing.

Your trolly post is still a trolly post. And it worked.

Upgrading question

Ok, I need some help with an upgrade scenario. Thanks in advance for any help!

I am with AT&T and have the 4 with unlimited data. My wife's Verizon contract has ended. I am not eligible for an upgrade until September 2012. Could my wife join AT&T in a family plan and get the 4s, swap phones with me (she gets the 4), have my number switched from the 4 to the 4s, I maintain my unlimited data plan on the 4s, and my wife's phone (my old 4) still be eligible for an upgrade in September of 2012.

Hope that makes sense. I was told by an AT&T employee months ago that we could swap phones and I could keep my number and unlimited data. But I was not sure if that would reset my contract, thus affecting my upgrade eligibility. Or does the upgrade eligibility follow the number?

The CDMA side gets coded to a provider, but the GSM side is determined by the SIM you use (and I'm assuming some kind of configuration option for the network type to use, or with a SIM inserted is automatically switches to GSM mode).

So you could use it on a CDMA network here in the US (like Verizon), then travel overseas, score a SIM and use it on a local network.

At least that's my understanding of how the two different cell techs work.

Yeah you should be able to do that. She won't have unlimited but your number still will be able to be grandfathered in.

What? If it's on Verizon, HOW could it be locked to AT&T?

i would like to see what those pundits, analysts, tech gurus, etc. have to say now.. why can't they understand the simple fact.. its not about specs.. its how it works.. and iPhone just works... :)

What? If it's on Verizon, HOW could it be locked to AT&T?

Because Verizon iPhones has a sim card slot, and I don't see it making much sense if AT&T iPhones were locked and verizon/sprint iPhone are not.
