The Siri app and the iPhone 4s are about as similar and comparable as android and iOS.

The iExperience clearly dominates the mobile computing market. Owning an android device is essentially becoming a public badge of stupidity and ignorance. Might as well have a dunce cap sewn on your head. Carrying around a windows device is akin to walking around naked with no genitals.

Ordered two white iPhone 4S, 64GB and 32GB, last night at around 1AM Pacific time from AT&T.

The 32 GB status shows "backordered" while the 64 GB status shows "processing".

Is anyone else status showing "backordered" and if so what time did you place the order?
 
I don't know what is going on with at&t, but it's bothering me that i can't know whether i am getting my phone on launch day or later. The website tells me that it's backordered, but i placed the order at 2am last night. Do any of you know if this is because it hasn't been released yet, or i actually got screwed and now have to wait? :confused:
 
*shakes head in utter amazement* Apple's ability to sell anything blows me away these days.

Sad thing? I'm actually going to buy one too.

Really, it's silly to attribute Apple's success to some kind of mass irrationality when there is a much more likely possibility: Apple makes good products and people like that.

The phone is may be underwhelming to some, for others getting their first smartphone, or getting access to it for the first time it may be just right.
If the device is underwhelming for you, sticking with for the ecosystem is a lame excuse. People make changes all the time, they change jobs, cars house spouse, etc. You are part of the Halo effect.

The developer states that 4S hardware is the first hardware that enables Siri to run without being stripped down like the version was in the App store.

You know more about the software than he does? Or is your position simply more paranoid hatred of the evil Apple Empire?

So the A5 has a magical new instruction that all armv7 cpus like the A4 don't have?

Until some independent guy comes out and says that is a pure hardware limitation and not some DRM module embedded into A5 then we'll know for sure.

I'm not buying into Apple's marketing BS.
 
I ordered Friday morning through AT&T. I checked by account this morning, and it has been charged. I thought they wouldn't charge it until it was shipped. No biggie as the money is there, but still...

It wasn't dissatisfying, it just didn't live up to the unrealistic, high expectation set by the media and bloggers. It exceeded the ACTUAL expectation, set by Apple (which was NONE). Best way too.

Once the highly reactionary response has settled (everyone going "what a crock!") people see it for the advancement it actually is and applies ration thought and logic into the equation, and buy one!

Plummeted? When it was announced the stock was down 0.5%, then crept up 2%, and is now down slightly due to Steve's death, but it's still the second most valuable on earth right now, but it's hardly "plummeted." Way to exaggerate. :rolleyes:

Like so many people i wasnt going to get one but the passing of steve jobs made alot of people eant to get a piece of history i hate to say this steve jobs known as a man of planning and secrecy is any one sure this unveiling of iph4s wasnt planned because he knew he was dying? a marketing strategy because i sure went and preordered the 64 gig to show my respect.

who are you talking about? cant say i have seen anyone, even among the negative crowd, who didnt think the device would sell. (On the contrary, the very same crowd usually remark that Apple could sell poop if they just called it ipoop - so why on earth would the #1 selling phone stop selling all of a sudden? -- frankly, i'd say its likely that you are missing their point).

more likely that he died cause the launch was finally over with. common for people to stay alive until X, to die shortly thereafter if X itself has any significant value.

The mind is a crazy thing.

Mr. Gates,

Not everyone had an iPhone 4. I'm upgrading to the 4S from a second gen iPod touch! I think the people that were most upset were iPhone 4 owners, because for them, the update wasn't as good. It was still good. I mean the new phone is 2x faster. If someone handed you a PC 2x faster, I'm sure you'd cry tears of joy. Yet, i see spec whores on the PC side upgrading their graphics for $500 for about a 10% speed boost. Get real.

2x faster 7x the graphical capabilities of the iPhone 4. That's one hell of an internal upgrade. It's probably 20x faster than my iPod touch. Just because there are no new software features besides siri doesn't mean that people won't buy it, and if they do, can you really call them iSheep? the 4S is a HUGE improvement in general performance, which is going to impact the user ALL the time.

The 4 isn't slow, but it won't be as snappy as the 4S. Surely as a spec whore, you would understand that. It's worth the upgrade regardless of what devices you already have.

No, but Siri would be quite useless if it took longer to find answers than typing out a google search would.

Siri's only redeeming feature is the speed by which you can voice a search request and it answers. Otherwise, you lose all the advantages of a speech recognition engine. Because really, that's all this is, "OCR" for your voice, which then pipes the output into a search engine.

Heck, I'm not even convinced Siri will be as useful as what Apple is saying it will be. It seems gimmicky to me. It sure isn't the reason I pre-ordered an iPhone 4S.

Remember, every release has been a bit different, and 2:00am-4:00am CDT aside, Apple's website worked pretty well today. Perhaps she was busier the last 4 years because people gave up on the website and called the stores or CS lines, and this year they ordered online.

Or possibly she's slower this year because when the iphone4 came out, everyone wanted the new design, (and this year it's only a spec bump) Make sense?
