With these numbers it's amazing that the delivery date is still October 14th in the US

I'd be willing to bet money that if the only thing different about the 4S was a new color, you'd still see close to the same sales numbers.

This number reflects the pent up demand of people who held off on buying the 4 in the past few months due to the rumors of a refresh. The pent demand was even higher this year because of the later launch date.

the cute little android trolls get caught up in the spec wars and playing with their launcher. what counts is how well the device performs for what you want. get an android if you want one. i've had 3 different android phones and got rid of all of them to go back to the iPhone and i've had every single iPhone model so far and preordered last night as well. iPhone simply suits me better and I'm not alone. i was one of the few back in the earlier days for apple and mac os and now I'm one of the millions and millions who love iOS.

specs don't mean as much as you think they do. they have some validity but the overall use and experience means much more of the device you choose.

well this should really help their stock being the most successful launch. ill admit i was one of those people who thought this wouldn't sell and i was wrong. i also bought one  i think siri played a major role in this. siri was the biggest reason i bought it. after watching the keynote it really impressed me and i couldn't believe this device could do something like that. everybody i have showed that section of the keynote to ends with there mouths dropped. great job Apple! despite not having a redesign, you managed a way to bring another big hitter to the plate.

Well done Apple, but why the hell would anyone want ATT? I'm trying to run away from it.

really depends on where you live more than anything with the 3 major carriers. where i live AT&T is by far the best, i get no dropped calls and my data is super fast.

Wait you mean all the experts on the internet were wrong?!

They were only right when Apple didn't exist prior to 1970's. The media has never understood Apple properly. Some people never will.

Just to honor and respect Mr. Steve Jobs, I'll buy the last device that was announced while he lived. I couldn't buy the first but I wouldn't miss the last.

Here is to Steve Jobs:

ordered a 32gb white for wife, maybe work will upgrade my thunderbolt to the iphone 4s soon. ( might have to accidentally drop the thunderbolt )

Count me as one who preordered on AT&T... But, remember that in the US, only AT&T will have upgraders (from those using 3GS iPhone or older). I bet a large majority of the preorders are upgraders.

The real test is how many people order from Verizon or Sprint. Most of those people would be switchers or new to smartphones. But, it has to be a rather small number, I would think, unless someone puts on a big advertising campaign (like Sprint) to get people to switch.

If I plan to buy this phone unlocked should I have preordered today, or was that not an option? I want to be guaranteed a device, but I was an indecisive iPhone 4 owner that didn't preorder. Any ideas if I will have a hard time getting an unlocked device when it launches?

Wow! i Didn't expect them to sell that many! I hope they have some more throughout the week

I wonder if the nexus prime or galaxy, I mean plasticy sIII will sell like this. hahahahahahahaha

:apple:

In today's news:

Samsung is widely expected to report record profit from handset sales and overtake Apple as the world's biggest smartphone vendor in unit terms in the third quarter, after selling just about 1 million fewer smartphones than Apple in the second quarter.

Link

I do not think they are laughing at Apple these days. Those "plasticy" phones now outsell iPhone not to mention the fact that Samsung's flagship phone (SGSII) has been recently outselling iPhone in such critical markets as England and Japan (it as not available in U.S. until a few days ago).

Does anyone else have a "Pending" status despite ordering fairly early?

I ordered at 3:02AM, but I don't have any indication of my phone except a confirmation.

not to mention apple has been selling phones for only 4 years, with samsung selling for over double that and with tons of models in tons of countries, yet they're just now catching up to apple, only to be passed again in the next quarter lol. put a little perspective on that for you genius.

...Because the only alternatives in the USA are Verizon and Sprint, which are slower and in many areas have worse coverage.

Wow! 200,000 iPhone buyers live in rural Nevada?

Seriously though if AT&T is getting 200k then you got to figure the others are getting 2 to 4 times that. Most people where waiting for a new phone to switch carriers. My wife and I and literal everyone we know who has an iPhone is switching form AT&T with the 4s. One friend of ours is even paying to break his contract. There are a few people that bought their first iPhone last January to get Verizon.

AT&T is dead last in customer satisfaction, and has been for a long time.

Here's to hopeing that I can walk in late Friday afternoon and grab one without a pre-order! I live in a small town so I hope I'm okay because now I'm getting nervous.

It's incredible how these sales are NOT counting the sales they will make once it actually comes out, and beyond. I will be one of the ones who buy it "beyond" the initial time it comes out. I'm buying in 1-2 months when things settle. Damn, that's a lot of iPhones!

Wow, lol. I'm just going to stand in line on Friday. Its POINTLESS for me to preorder now.

Why is it pointless? The Apple site has delivery set for Friday the 14th. So instead of standing in line that day, they would bring it to your door! That said, I did stand in line for the original iPad. It was fun. Great weather, nice people, fresh air. Then at the end... an iPad!

The only iphone to do simultaneous voice/data and the only iPhone to do 4g Hspa+ with enhanced backhaul in the US. SO EXCITED TO SEE MINE FRIDAY MORNING AT MY DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
