AT&T Alone Sees 200,000 iPhone 4S Preorders in First 12 Hours, Their Most Successful

Having both a 3GS and an HTC Inspire, I put the HTC over the 3GS, even though I still like the 3GS a lot. There are a lot of nice phones out there right now. I *do* like how easy it is to drag/drop mp3 files into my HTC and use them as ringtones or music files without iTunes or anything else.
I'm so happy for Samsung. Maybe they can get out of the shipbuilding business now.
Here's news. Apple makes 2/3 of the profit in Smartphones and still has not been able to keep up with supply with just 2 models. I doubt that 3 models will change that even with continuous production ramping (which is Tim Cook's forte).
Plenty of room in Smartphones for a few big players, including Samsung and Nokia, but given everything, I would rather be working with Apple's base of users than any others.
Pretty much why I didn't wait up to order my wife's new 4S last night. Apple's online store was zippy fast this morning when I got up, no hassle at all. And it'll still deliver on the 14th, so I'm not sure why people rush to order in the first few minutes.
Now I've just got to convince my wife that she'd be much happier with my iPhone 4, so I can snag the 4S for myself.

It seems that people that ordered two minutes after three haven't gotten an updated status report!

For all those haters, please bookmark this page to review in 2 years when the iPhone 5S comes out that doesn't come with the standard 8 core and laser beam that all the Android phones do.
So AT&T sold as many iPhone 4S in 12 hours as Amazon sold Kindles Fire in 6 days. Lots of companies would love "disappointments" like this one.
It would have been 200,001 had Apple had the unlocked version available on Day 1. I'm still under contract, and for the extra $200 ($449 vs $649), I'd rather not extend my contract and be able to use my OneSIM when I'm traveling in Europe.
I can wait until November to replace this BlackBerry Bold (that's what I'm telling myself, at least).

Order status already says "Prepared for shipment". It's a White one, too.
Did you order through apple.com or att.com?
I love this. Absolutely love it. Just because the phone looks the same does not mean its a disappointment. I upgraded from the 4 to the 4s and can't wait to get it. You take the best phone available with the best os available, and make it better. How can you go wrong?
Backordered through ATT
I ordered my Iphone 4S from ATT around 4 AM and under "Order Status Detail" the first Shipment Status says Processing but under the latest update it says Backordered next to Shipment Status. The only item that I ordered that still says Pending Shipment is my Otterbox case.
I have a feeling that some of us will still be waitng for our phones after the October 14th delivery date but then again I could be wrong. I sure hope I am.

LOL... after a few years that's all they will have to look forward to. I love Apple's approach: use the hardware to do something useful. If it means I'm going to talk to my phone from now on maybe they're on to something.

That's frustrating. You ordered at 4AM and you're seeing that.
I ordered at 3:02AM with absolutely NO slowdown, and I can't see anything other than "pending" :-/
