Well I predicted 2 million units sold within the first 72 hours when it launches, so certainly seems possible.
You're too low. The 4 did almost 2 mill with a smaller initial distribution. The 4S will do over 3mil easy. Count on it

Well done Apple, but why the hell would anyone want ATT? I'm trying to run away from it.
...Because the only alternatives in the USA are Verizon and Sprint, which are slower and in many areas have worse coverage.
14.4 Data Speed
Voice & Data use at the same time.
because they are faster than verizon and almost as good
That's the problem at least for anyone who needs or wants Verizon or Sprint service. Buy this thing and be stuck at 3G for the next 2 years even as Verizon continues to quickly expand their 4G LTE service to new markets each month.
really depends on where you live more than anything with the 3 major carriers. where i live AT&T is by far the best, i get no dropped calls and my data is super fast.
Unfortunately I already tried that and they said they cannot because the upgrade is locked through AT&T.
I believe it was 2001. I remember that date because that is the first Mac I bought and it was a 17" 800MHz iMac G4.
Then I'd try AT&T. If that doesn't work, just wait for the phone to arrive next Friday. Don't open it up, but take it back to the store the following Monday (when the first weekend traffic has died down a bit) and exchange it at an Apple store. As long as the box is unopened you should be able to exchange it without a restocking fee.
If it makes you feel any better, just remember that those of us who want the unlocked version will be waiting at least another 18 days (and probably longer) before we can even order the phone.
That is true. I called Apple again and was told they could cancel my order and my upgrade eligibility would automatically be restored and I could place an order for the 32 GB. I am just worried that it will not be that smooth.
Any idea what the stock at stores is going to be like? What happens if I cannot get a 32 GB within the 14 day return period. Will I just have to return it for a refund?
LOL. When I was living in London (back in 2004), I actually bought a phone from Phones4U (a Sony Ericsson C700 IIRC - I also had an SE P800 - definitely a phone a few years ahead of its time, if only SE realized it). I was surprised even then that Carphone Warehouse hadn't changed their name. I half expected to see one of these in there.
Yes. Initially, I tried to pre-order. Of course, so did a lot of other people. Once the first bunch got through, for many, it was pretty swift.
Amazing? Noamazing

Actually the first release was only 15 inch, the 17 inch came even later in May of 2003.
Wikipedia doesn't lie.
I ordered a 16 GB AT&T 4S on apple.com this morning and I am looking forward to receiving it. However after thinking about it, I think I want the 32 GB. What is the best way to go about exchanging?
Should I cancel my order and re-order 32GB? I am afraid my AT&T upgrade might get messed up and I also will loose my priority.
I guess the other option would be to get my phone and exchange it an Apple store for a 32 GB. Would I have a certain amount of time to do this?
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks everyone.
Amazing? No
Expected? Yes
As long as it has the Apple logo, nothing else matters.
Apples powerful marketing spin and convincing ringmaster from the past, charmed the public into feeding frenzy. It's not about the phone, it's about "The Story".
The darling of Hollywood and the press, their insider grey haired journalist well placed in the New York Times & Wall St Journal, along with Fart Apps and games that appeal to the youngsters, comprise a sphere of influence unlike any other. Perceived as the most desirable brand on the planet, Apple has an advantage far beyond the iToys they make in China.
It's no wonder the numbers are staggering their buyers are presold on brand alone. Quite unique.
The problem is I am on Verizon and live in an area that will be going 4G next spring. Do I really want to enter a 2 year contract and then have to spend a year and a half waiting to have a 4G handset? Nope.

Can we consider that Apple lost their CEO a day after the keynote and release.
What other company could withstand this type of shock?
Can we just forget about the 4S/5 thing and the form factor we wanted? I wanted a larger screen, too. But, can we just give a touch of understanding and dignity to what they must be going through?
So what! 4S now, 5 later.
Actually it's about the Eco system. App store and iCloud.
But Google has bigger cloud, don't they? And then there is Amazon cloud (also Android-centric).
There was some pent up demand, to be sure, but remember that most people don't go onto tech sites the way we do. Do you really think your mother (for instance) cares whether her phone has a single core or dual core processor? As long as it does the things they show on TV or in the store, then it will sell.
Apple products rarely top the spec charts. They have done a decent job figuring out how to sell their products on features other than raw specifications. They are similar to BMW or Audi in that regard.
But none of them integrate the way iCloud will with the Apple eco system and the iDevices.
When everyone was predictably bitching that Apple was ****ed and that this phone wouldn't sell much, I said that this phone will end up outselling the iPhone 4, which is currently the best selling phone on the planet. Seems I'll be right. People on messageboards are so ****ing out of touch with reality, and normal people, it's beyond sad.
