Why not change plans today to the unlimited data plan today that is offered with FAN discount. If in Thursday they don't offer FAN or they do you could switch? Would att allow the switch in a few days because I don't care about tethering?

There isn't an audit or validation process for corporate discounts?

Once you first add the discount they verify, but mine has been carrying over for years without any verification. I am no longer working for the company I was when I had the discount because I went back to school. 21% has stuck since (over a year).

But it may depend on how your employer has the FAN set up. I only had to provide my email address when originally signing up for verification. After that, nothing.

I'm thinking of doing this. I've been fine without tethering, but it'd be nice for those few times a year I'd like to use the wifi only iPads out and about.

I'm currently grandfathered on the original iPhone unlimited plan with 2 phones... 550 Nation minutes and 200 texts. I get that for $140.34...

Subtract out my 23% FAN... I think this new (last week) unlimited plan is pretty much as wash as money goes but I gain unlimited phone/text.

From what I'm understanding... this unlimited plan they announced a week or two ago will go away and be superseded by these new plans announced today? but it's not 100% certain they'd allow non Veteran/Military FAN discounts.

I switched from ATT to VZW this weekend. I assume I'm the one that tipped the scales and caused AT&T to hit the panic button. You're welcome. ;)

I had an inkling this was coming. I have tried a couple of times to get AT&T to match Verizon's offering. They never were able to and basically said, "don't let the door hit you on the way out." But each time I had to wait for their "loyalty service line" (customer retentions) it was a much longer wait than usual.

I'm pretty sure they were hemorrhaging customers to an unhealthy degree. I was trying to switch but trying to find a Verizon rep who would waive my $30 per line activation fees for my 10-line plan (they wouldn't do it.)

The base fee of the family plan is actually $115. But I don't know how the auto-pay fee + FAN works. That would be stacking. So auto-pay plus DirectTV would probably be better than only FAN.

so 24% of $115 is $27.60. DirectTV + Auto-pay is $35.

Ahhh, good catch. I missed the fine print about the price including a $10 discount for auto-pay.

And you're right...who knows if they will allow the FAN discount + auto-pay discount to be stacked. If I understand correctly, Verizon does not allow employer discounts to be used on their unlimited plan. However, up to this point, AT&T has allowed FAN discounts to be used on their unlimited plan.

I guess we'll find out for sure on Thursday. Until then, I wouldn't trust what any AT&T CSR says on this issue because we could probably talk to two different CSRs and get two different answers right now.

Right now paying $250 for 8 lines on the 30 Gb mobile share value. If this is accurate I'd be paying $265 for unlimited 8 lines and not have to worry about babysitting user data use. That'd be a dream. Will see when att publishes their info and fine print.

I wonder if the North American roaming will still be included in the plan.
It is. I've read through the fine print. Canada and Mexico are included.

Agreed, but at least I have it in writing (FAN will work), so I will raise hell if they try not to honor it.

If that was a major cost driver Russia and Canada should have the most expensive cellular plans in the world. Is that actually the case?

Most of Canada and Russia (e.g., more than 50%, probably closer to 66% or more) is uninhabited and thus requires no cellular coverage. In Canada, something like 75% of the population lives along the US border and in the major cities (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver).

I imagine Russia is similar where most of the population is in the western cities. From my travels there, eastern and northern parts of Russia are pretty much empty.

Further, even in the areas where nobody lives, there are not too many major highways or routes in Canada or Russia because there is no much to connect to. It's not like there is a major city in northern Canada that requires a major highway to run there.

The US is like this too in some ways in that we have a lot of empty area, but we also have major populations all over (other than Alaska). Unlike Canada or Russia, we have major cities all over in the north, south, east, and west; on the coasts (LA, NY, Seattle, Boston, Miami, SF, DC, etc.) and in the middle (KC, Minneapolis, Chicago, Dallas, etc.) and in between (Atlanta, NOLA, Denver, etc.). Further, we have a pretty expansive highway system that gets a lot of use between said cities, so even some far-away places where no one lives might have thousands of cars and trucks pass through daily. In all, we require our network coverage to cover a lot of land.

Fantastic. For most with 3-20 lines, this will be a savings or the same cost as the plan they currently have.

One thing others have not commented about is the auto-pay. Several have complained about it. At first I said no way. But then I read into it. It doesn't auto-pay until the due date. So like for me I pay it as soon as I get the bill and auto-pay never kicks in. When I get the bill notice I make a credit card payment, done. No worry it'll just charge me cause it's paid off weeks before auto-pay would have deducted it.
[doublepost=1488215234][/doublepost]A tip for you all switching to the new plan... it requires auto-pay. If you're signing up for auto-pay, SIGN UP FOR PLENTI POINTS and link to your AT&T account. Every month, you get 50 Plenti Points per line, maxing out at 300 per month. I have 8 lines so I get 300 points per month. A point is a penny in redemption so it's 3 bucks off per month basically. I save mine up and every year I redeem for 2 new cases when the iPhone comes out... that's $48 free money per year. Don't leave it on the table!

Actually, now that I'm looking at the fine print again, I think the multi-line unlimited plus plan is actually $105.00 for the plan, not $115.00. The fine print explicitly states: "Multi line pricing includes monthly plan charge (AT&T Unlimited Choice of $75/mo. or AT&T Unlimited Plus of $105/mo.) + access charge for two device ($20/mo. for all devices except connected wearables which are $10/mo.)."

That seems to say that the $10.00 surcharge for not enrolling in auto-pay will be a separate charge on the bill and won't be bundled into the price of the plan cost. Who knows, though? At this point, I'm assuming that if the FAN discount applies at all, it will apply toward $105.00, not $115.00.

Even so, if I have to choose between FAN vs. DIRECTV discount plus auto-pay discount, you're correct that DIRECTV plus auto-pay would net more of a savings.

Thats a very good work around for the auto pay. I like paying with my card because i get miles. So set up auto pay with my bank but pay early with my CC is a good trick to qualify for the $10 credit plus continue to earn miles

Well the agent I spoke to said its $115 base. So again who knows until it goes lives, but thats what I was told. I wish these things were more clear. How hard is it to type another paragraph explaining the little details.

Does their system allow you to make manual credit card payments while auto-pay is enabled? I've never used auto-pay, so I'm not sure whether or not it does. It would seem counter-productive if their system did still allow manual credit card payments while auto-pay is enabled since they're trying to get around having to pay credit card processing fees by not allowing credit cards to be used in conjunction with auto-pay.

I'm on T-Mobile, with about 10 lines (business plan)

But I fail to see why anyone is still on AT&T.

With T-Mobile being the cheaper option, and Verizon having a vastly better network than AT&T while still being cheaper, it astounds me that people are still on AT&T.

This is not meant as a personal attack, please explain why you wouldn't switch from them?

For me it's simple. I was with T-Mobile for over 3 years but eventually had to switch to AT&T because the T-Mobile network congestion in the city where I live and work has made their service largely unusable. Lots of dropped calls, text messages sometimes taking 10 minutes to send/receive, data speeds at a trickle (frequently less than 2Mbps while inside of my office building and not much better at home), etc.

I love the way that T-Mobile has shaken up the market, but sadly their service is basically a joke compared to AT&T where I am. If they ever dramatically improve things, I'll gladly switch back. But I'm willing to pay more in the interim for a service that actually works well.

Wait the new Unlimited Plan from a week ago was $100+$40+$40+Free for 4 lines = $180, the new one is $145+$20+$20 for 4 lines = $185. Sure someone already pointed this out...

I have the same plan as you with 200 text and I think I will wait until the last day Wednesday to decide. Maybe we will have a better idea about the FAN discount but I think we can switch anyway if it would be a better deal on Thursday. If the FAN discount doesn't apply to the new unlimited plus plan than it would cost more money at 185 without FAN discount for 4 lines

And then you get to the fine print:

Qualifying Video Service: DIRECTV, DIRECTV NOW (excludes Go Big $35/mo. plan)

So, doesn't apply to ANYONE currently using the service because no one in their right mind would be paying the regular price of $60 for this plan.

:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

After putting up with AT&T for 10 years, this may push me to finally switch to T-mobile.

This includes tethering, the other one does not. So it may be $5 more for 4 lines, but in reality it is 15 less for 3 lines and includes tethering. So my family saves $15 plus we get tethering because we only have 3 lines. That 4th line was pointless for us. And it took 2 months for that bill credit to kick in, so 2 months would have been $220. (if you have 4 lines)

Yep. I guess AT&T figures that since they're making hotspot available on the new $145.00 plan, a family of 4 should be willing to pay $5.00 more for the privilege of using hotspot?

Also, unfortunately, if someone doesn't need hotspot but they still want "unlimited" data, starting Thursday, they have to agree to having all their data throttled to 3 Mbps, which seems like a cruel joke. I have AT&T's gigabit fiber at my home (which I love). There's no way I would voluntarily agree to capping my cellular data throughput to 3 Mbps. That's insane. I'd love to meet the suits that arbitrarily decided that 3 Mbps would be the figure they would go with. My guess is, they came up with that number by playing a game of darts.

The real headline here is, "If you want unlimited data and don't need hotspot, sign up before Thursday"

I have the same deal...i fought for 2 weeks with retentions to get it ...but im dumping it friday and switching 5 lines to unlimited plus. No more worrying about my kid goin over. We cud stream video again. And also 2 other grandfathered udp lines get tethering finally.....and wait til 5g arrives in 3 years it will eat up data like rheres no tomorrow. U will be strangling on your capped 20 gigs. Att wud never in a million years offered this great new plan if it wasnt for verizons new plan. Im sure its killin those greedy bastards to have to do this. But they were bleeding customers at an alarming rate. .... so im taking advantage of the situation and lockin up unlimited now while its. available again

I was lucky and got it on my first try :p That deal has saved me so much over the years and we have never come close to using what we have available.

I don't know what the grandfathered unlimited plans monthly cost is but if you had 5 lines on our old double data deal you would be paying $30 more per month plus fees switching to this new unlimited deal.
