F'n typical.

I can't even begin to think how this new $60 plan is going to benefit them. I guess someone who doesn't know what speeds are good and what are bad, they won't really care.

And I know a couple people, including myself, who have that DIRECTV Now promo plan and was going to let them know about the discount but if that's excluded, forget it. It doesn't surprise me that AT&T did that. In my book, they're now worse than Verizon.

It's worth noting, though, that in order to get the auto-pay discount with the unlimited plans rolling out this week, it says explicitly that auto-pay excludes credit cards. That tells me that you must input a checking account number for them to debit; whereas it sounds like based on what you said that entering a checking account has been optional with auto-pay in the past. Am I mis-understanding? That's why I assumed they're just trying to get around paying the credit card processing fees.

Auto-Pay can be setup with a credit card... However, to earn Plenti points, it makes you use a bank account associated with the account. I'm guessing the new process will work the same exact way for the plan discount. It's them covering their ass. Just think, with a bank account they know they'll get paid cause if you don't have the money it'll overdraw your account, and they kinda have a blank check into your account. I have a separate account for all my auto-pay stuff among different companies. You have no dispute rights when using a bank account EFT, so buyer beware, hehe.

Yep, earlier this morning I was considering the choice between FAN discount vs. DIRECTV Now discount. Since it seems that having the promo rate for the DIRECTV Now "Go Big" plan doesn't qualify as having DIRECTV Now for the purposes of the new unlimited plans, it's going to be FAN discount or no discount if I switch to the Unlimited Plus plan. Hope they don't make FAN discounts not applicable too!

I take trips into our national parks in the west (i.e. Yosemite, Arches, Zion, etc.) and I can get service with ATT but not with TMobile. If TMobile had better coverage once your outside of urban areas I would definitely switch.
We have 6 att lines and 1 t mo line. We still need the better coverage that att has. T no does have weakness in more rural areas...so super rural...it starts with just outside of major cities.

So they actually have a plan that is universally limited to 3 Mbps speed?!? What year is this? They are out of their minds.

While I wouldn't opt for that plan...I am wanting more info about this too. Is that just for steaming? Or for downloading too? And websurfing? An oddly low speed!

Someone from AT&T told me the FANs will no longer be able to apply. Can you share what you got in writing?

After the call, I had the rep email me and he notated my account. It says 21% FAN will be applied to $115 on my account.

"Your 21% discount would make the discount off the $115 $24.15/mo worth of discounts."

Not IF you do two seconds to DOWNLOAD on wifi

Some of us are away from wifi all the day long. As a parent, I am often out of the house sitting at soccer practice, waiting at school pick up etc. I don't always have time to download everything I want to watch before I leave.

What is really unlimited is the number of times you keep repeating this in every thread about these plans. Only someone who can't read would not be able to understand they are sold as "unlimited data" not "unlimited 4G data." Even still for most people 22-28GB of data is defacto unlimited.

Especially when the throttling is only on congested towers. That means you may not always be affected by the throttling.

Has anyone determined what that actual base price is between the Data/Devices with no discounts...in order to determine what portion that FAN discounts will apply to?

Unlimited Plus (Mulit Line): $155 (no discounts)
Plan Charge: $105 or $115
Lines 1&2: $25 or $20
Lines 3-8:$20

$145 Asterisk pricing based on the Autopay (by checking account only) discount
Plan Charge: $105
Lines 1&2: $20
Lines 3-8: $20

Historically FAN only applies to the "Plan Charge"

I was told that the base Unlimited Plus is $115. + $20 for each line on top. FAN would apply to $115.

So, as an original unlimited data subscriber that has been hanging on all these years, it makes sense to become a Unlimited Plus, right? It seems that way from what I'm reading, but I am so distrustful of AT&T at this point, that I'm just waiting for the gotcha to be pointed out.

I need to call and get this put on mine.

Thanks

It really depends. Do you have the need for tethering, unlimited minutes (including Canada and Mexico) and is this going to be roughly the same price once the UDP goes up $5 this week.

For my family of 3 grandfathered plans, this is cheaper, even without the FAN its $8 a month cheaper when all is said and done and we get many more features.

This is so funny...not long ago all these carriers were saying we are taking away your unlimited, unlimited is no longer available, here choose these 2 4 6 GB plans. Now all of a sudden everyone wants to sell you unlimited data plans. What a joke.
The capacity and technology to deliver quality service to more and more users using more data daily has materialized to the point the carriers can deliver it reliably.

All data throughput is capped at 3 Mbps except for video. If AT&T can determine that you're streaming video, the video stream is capped at 1.5 Mbps.

No way would I ever believe this. The real reason is greed on the carriers part, do you realize how much money these carriers made by getting people off their unlimited data years ago and placed them on teired plans? A heck of a lot of money. Most of the call center reps at these carriers looked for ways to get customers who called in to get off there old grandfathered unlimited plans. Some customers were even tricked into losing their unlimited plans and now these carriers are begging to put you on a new and improved unlimited plan. Give me a break, it's so obvious that it's a joke.

I was in an AT&T corporate store today doing something else on my account and I asked about the FAN discounts with the new unlimited plus and choice plans and the response was "of course FAN discounts will continue to apply like they do now."

Glad to hear it, backs up what I was told.

Yea just spoke to our rep and he said that there is no reason why FAN won't apply, he did say though you can't combine military and fan which we all know already.

Well, they're headed in the right direction now, at least.

As someone with a 24% FAN discount, the new "plus" plan includes hotspot and is ~$5.00 per month cheaper than the existing unlimited plan that does not include hotspot. Something to consider.

FAN doesn't work on the new ones
