If U.S. is one big region, then it is regional. Those cities that are not affected are in minority. Sorry.

So I am guessing all the south, california, and other central cities are considered minority? Wow.... that's a new one.

West Houston? Seriosuly? What about the other half, the East? Has it occurred it's temp thign?

no issues in Burlington, VT - 1.7 down, 1.2 up. AT&T's pretty great up here.

EDIT - woah, sorry, massive full res picture, took it away for the sake of the page.

I first noticed caps in Oklahoma back in February with my 3G (and tethering with old tree wm phone). On order of consistent 56-58 kbs. Still that way today with iPad, though download has improved to around 2mbs. On trip to upstate ny, speeds up to 400kbs measured. So figured market limitations. Is it to discourage voip?

And just to mention one more thing... If I didnt start this thread, and if our forum readers didn't confirm the same problem in their cities, this problem would've never been discussed outside of my circle of friends. TUAW and Gizmodo and other sites may not be aware of the problem for a while.
This way AT&T might actually fix this issue quicker, and show that they actually care. Somtimes.

Glad you brought it up. But let's contain the outrage until we get a firm explanation. The story is getting traction now in financial sites (see below) and so I would expect the company to have a proper statement soon, if the issue does not go away sooner.

Duluth, Minnesota speeds are still fine.

OP: Change your listing to say "St. Paul/Minnesota", you spelt Minnesota waaaaay wrong :)

It seems like they went back up in Boston

Update!

I have received word from an inside source that they know of an issue on some of their hardware (in certain markets) that is causing this problem as well as dropped calls and latency issues! No ETA.

Woohoo!

Ah!

So the issue is related to a network problem and not some nefarious plan to keep people from using their devices. Not really news but apparently so widespread that it caused major issues for most - mine was so low as to be close to dial-up speed. Luckily on corporate wireless where I am.

today July 6, I did 10 tests in Suburb of NYC

all results for UL were below 100 except ONE TIME it went over 500 or so on the upload...

TBD

This thread has proven how visitors of forums, while great at discovering nuances in gadget performance, tend to overreact at the slightest deviation from the mean. Whether its antenna/grip issues, yellow spots or network speeds.

Jefferson City, MO 1200 kbps down, 64 kbps up. On Friday it was running 1500 down and 1500 up. (holding it the "right" way, you know, without bridging the 2 antennas with my hand of course)

my speeds are crap at the moment... 1PM in NYC, with 5 bars of service (who knows what the 5 bars represent anymore) Look at the last test I did. I think edge is faster than that. These results are all from an iPhone 4
