my speeds are crap at the moment... 1PM in NYC, with 5 bars of service (who knows what the 5 bars represent anymore) Look at the last test I did. I think edge is faster than that. These results are all from an iPhone 4

well your upload speed would indicate that 100KB is not the "cap"

Eww! Just did a speedtest here in NY at Bryant Park and I have 138 DL / 22 UL!!

Is this a joke?

No, you took a speed test of AT&T's network in the middle of a congested place, on a mid day with people all over the place. It is obvious you will get congested results. Ariwaves aren't unlimited you know.

true, but still seeing lower than normal speeds. I'm guessing everything should be fine later on in the day, if not tomorrow. I'm sure it's a lot of holiday cellular traffic screwing things up. Also, I wonder if the heat wave has anything to do with this? I know they say heat is bad for electronics... don't know how it would affect cellular equipment such as towers/servers...???

i guess some of you geniuses didn't realize that the july 4th weekend was perfect to schedule some maintenance that would result in downtime or reduced performance. AT&T is in the process of network upgrades and this would be a perfect weekend to do a lot of them

i work in IT and scheduled some server maintenance for friday night so that if it crashed and i had to go in to reinstall Windows and restore data it would be when people are out drinking and not tuesday morning when revenue needs to come in.

i think i waited at least a month to schedule it on this server just for the long weekend.

Hey genius, I guess you didn't realize that the July 4th weekend was the WORST time to schedule maintenance for a cellular network. They see MORE usage during the July 4th weekend, not less like your company does. You see, your company is probably pretty much closed down for the weekend, which means it should see pretty much zero usage (other than some people checking out your website). Many more people are away traveling than on a normal weekend and on the road and have less access to a landline for calls or a computer for web use, and therefore, will use their cellphones for those tasks.

Common sense seems to elude you.

Las Vegas, NV:

Test 1
545 kbps down
18 kbps up

Test 2
1092 kbps down
25 kbps down

Test 3
839 kbps down
29 kbps up

In other words, typical crappy AT&T speeds.

stuyvesant town in Manhattan:

168 / 40
this is HORIBBLE!

@3rd and 26 st:

3329 / 255
much better

Looks like this is overblown...once again....ATT is probably just doing some testing in some of their markets. A 100k cap is lower that is use to be...it was 256k up.....

I'm still getting about 1.5/250 on my 3GS here in Connecticut. Sounds like less of a policy and more of an experiment with shaping in crowded areas to limit congestion.

Outside of Baltimore, 1827/98

No matter how many times I test, I can't get upload speeds past 99!!!

No slow down here is Pittsburgh, PA I am still getting 1-1.5D/.8-1.25U. I am in the middle of the city midday so that's pretty good.

I'm Done With At&t

When I saw this thread on MacRumors I was curious to check my data speeds. THEY WERE HORRIBLE. I usually use Wi-Fi for surfing the internet because I do most of the surfing in my home. But I turned off the Wi-Fi and checked the transfer rates on FULL 5 BARS OF 3G. Look at this!

P.S. I live in western Maryland outside Washington D.C.

Figured I'd throw Columbus, Ohio into the mix for you all. I checked yesterday and today.

Well, at least all of the major outlets are now reporting on this issue (Engadget, Gizmodo, etc). Apparently, AT&T has announced that an official announcement is imminent (why they have to announce that they are going to make an announcement is beyond me). But if they have to take time to prepare for an announcement on this, is that a good sign or bad sign?

Downloads are good here (Quad Cities), but uploads are still in the gutter:

In Northern part of Cincinnati, my last 6 upload speeds have been the following:

3:21 100
3:20 95
2:14 97
12:37 95
8:30 99
7:41 92

Sure looks like a 100kbps cap here.

I think that the fact that we managed to make enough noise so that major tech sites already contacted ATT and asked for the official statement is progress of monumental value.
Power to the people!

Cincinnati here also. Same as everyone else, last week the sky was limit, this week, the limit is the sky! Nothing over 100kbps on U/L, as my ping increases(8000ms+) my D/L goes up, around 2.5mbps. No screenshots to save space.

Did 6 tests here in Eugene, and all but one (180kbps) were under 100kbps usually around 50-60... so still not good!
