I have logged my complaints to people pretty high up in AT&T Wireless Technical Support. If this problem isn't resolved soon I have setup so that I'll be receiving a phone call from an AT&T Wireless Business Data Technical Support Manager. I promise, I will get answers!!!!

But seems AT&T doesn't care to respond. It's been going on now through the weekend and all day today. But there has been no comment or explanation, even to the technical blogs which have inquired. We all hope you can get an answer and will be waiting to hear, but I wouldn't want to be counting on that.

It doesn't look like AT&T is going to make that statement after all today! I am still suspicious - if it was something like maintenance or a technical issue, how hard would it be to make a simple statement saying they are working on it? Their lack of response and long preparation still has me uneasy about this.

Called AT&T back again today -

I was told by CSR "Mckayla" that the new "caps" are tests for some new hardware to be in place. I don't know exactly what that means for the rest of the country but for now, these 'tests' are to be in place until further notice from AT&T.

She couldn't explain why - so I just hung up. Another disgusting move by AT&T. Thanks for letting me know your network is going to explode, yet again.

<sigh> - why must iPhone 4 witness so many goddam problems??:(

Since Day1 my upload speed in Phoenix was not over 100 kbps, its usually around 60-70.

What 's next.

Well, the maintenance window for most cellular operators is midnight or 1AM to 5AM.

If something got screwed up before the weekend, I could see AT&T fixing it tonight and then pretending nothing ever happened. Perhaps they would think it not worth the time to issue a statement if the fix was close at hand.

If that's the case, people could wake up to "normal" upload speeds tomorrow. We shall see.

Well, they finally admitted to me that there is a data outage in my area. About time they said something!

Or they're just telling you something to appease you. AFAIK, there is no "outage" per say. Data is working, it's just not anywhere near expected speeds. And I'm very disappointed that AT&T did not issue a statement today. That does not bode well, in my opinion.

The person told me that the "outage" will be resolved by 11:30 AM. Ok, if my issues aren't solved by then I will be making another phone call to them and ask for their manager. I don't care how high I have to go in the company, I want answers!

It was not too long ago, you had people helping you on your sim test theory. Why do you come in smacking around when you don't even suffer the upload issue like those of us in this thread? Furthermore, what evidence (please do share) do you have to support your claim?

Please, fill me in on more of your theory on why I am only uploading <100kbps, and cannot (like many in this thread) break the 99 up barrier. Enlighten me.

1. Regional because only certain markets are affected as evidenced by the fact that not all cities have slowed uploads. Also, take into account many users in the troubled cities reporting their connections are fine.

2. Theory is that AT&T may be experiencing hardware and connections problems. I have a good theory behind it that they may be in the process of updating or upping capacity in their high capacity backhaul servers. However, to do such maintanence you require some down time and slow speeds. Think of a freeway being expanded to accomodate 1 or 2 more lanes. At first it's a hassle because you loose a travel lane to the construction causing headaches and traffic, but once the work is complete, well you know.

I am experiencing this problem... I'm in the philly suburbs. when I first got my phone i was having horrible or no download speed and my upload speeds were nearing 2mbps ... now my download is working and my upload won't go above .1 mbps. seems the problem reversed itself

The news post on apple insider definitely isn't helping us a single bit. "AT&T not throttling the speeds". Like REALLY!!!!!!

Just checked a video I've made on July 2 (haven't upload it yet) that shows the speed being crippled since that date. In the Fairfax county VA area.

The news post on apple insider definitely isn't helping us a single bit. "AT&T not throttling the speeds". Like REALLY!!!!!!

Yeah and they didn't really list ANY supporting evidence. I rarely read them now.

What evidence do you have to support your claim of throttling? Have you considered hardware upgrades or maybe server downtime?

Recall, if they were throttling, it'd be nation wide, but it's not, it's regional.

Dude, the evidence is everythign people posted on this topic. It's striking that someone can't draw a conclusion from tons of screenshots and tons of users.

Throttling means that the customers are getting deliberately slower speeds provided by the ISP, in this case ATT. Now why are they doing that, I do not know or care. It's about time for them to come clean.

Still slow in Cincinnati... haven't had an upload >100 kbps since 7/2. The vast majority of my speedtest results have been between 90-99 kbps.

We'll not know until ATT makes a statement, but a reasonable conclusion is that a temporary cap has been put in place.

It seems much less likely that a random outage or network problem would cause consistent upload speeds in a specific range.

This is going on Day #5 for me in the Quad Cities with uploads no higher than 90-100 kbps. I'm very skeptical that this is just some kind of maintenance or "software problem" since they haven't even made an official announcement. If that's all it was, they would have already said they are working on it. I don't think there's any doubt that they are capping our upload speeds in these markets. But we still don't know why or whether it's temporary or permanent.

Here's a couple of days worth of speed tests at various times and ALL of them have uploads in the 90-100 kbps range, whereas the download speeds are variable. It's quite clear that there's a cap.

I live in NYC, but work in Yonkers. These are my results in both NYC and Yonkers.

Slow Going

Definitely not the iphone problem. If you bought it in AT&T store, bring it there and complain your way into getting a free month or something. This is sad to say the least. Apple has nothing to do with this, raeally. Users in different countries are doing great in terms of 3G bandwidth.

I know that many users are affected, however, seeing as my speeds are far lower than most, I was curious as to whether or not it was my phone that was the issue. I imagine that if it were a software issue, wouldn't all iOS 4 users be affected? Thanks for your suggestions.
