I am beginning to notice a trend here.

Last year iPhone 3GS was released in June. So AT&T allowed all users to move up their full $199/299 eligibility up by 3 months.

So anyone eligible up till September 30th 2009 could have upgraded for the 199/299 price on launch day June 19 2009.

So if people as late as October 2010 full eligibility update are now fully eligible, maybe this means the 4th gen iPhone will be released sometime in July 2010 instead of June 2010 if you use the 3 month move up date rule?

Anyone care to reason with me?

So if this is true I will reason no one with a current November 2010 eligibility upgrade has had their date moved up. So October 2010 is the latest AT&T will move you up to the full upgrade pricing?

Anyone with November 2010 upgrades want to confirm that your date hasn't moved up?

I suspect you are on to something. My wife bought the 3GS in November and her eligibility has not changed. She is only eligibile for the partially discounted price - $399.00 for a 16GB 3GS.

Does anyone think that AT&T is allowing us iPhone users to upgrade early to the new iPhone 4G so that in a couple months when the iPhone is announced on Sprint or Verizon, we will be locked in to a 2 year contract and will have to shell out the hefty ETF fee in order to go to Sprint/Verizon (which a lot of us do want to do)?

Yeah, that has to be it.

Nah? Do you have a November 2010 date that got pushed up?

Everyone from June-October had their dated pushed up.

So if people as late as October 2010 full eligibility update are now fully eligible, maybe this means the 4th gen iPhone will be released sometime in July 2010 instead of June 2010 if you use the 3 month move up date rule?
Nah.

For the longest time, my upgrade has been: "A full discount on a standard handset or iPhone upgrade is not available at this time but you may qualify on 11/20/2010. We can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price with a 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please visit a participating iPhone sales location for pricing on this offer."

just checked this instant and it now says "As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

does this mean I'm eligible on launch day at the full upgrade price??

Yes.

I checked my eligibility upgrade date yesterday and it was 07/07/2010.

I just checked it a min ago and it changed to NOW!

MAN! I am excited. I had planned to call AT&T to ask for it. But now I don't have to! Now if the new iPhone comes out tomorrow, I will be the first one be there!

I think that the release date will June 18 ...I think ordering online isbte way to go just make sure you order right at the beginning to guarrantee the delivery on launch date and to avoid standing in line...

I'm officially eligible. My date was 11/25/10. Nice.

Still hoping for a Verizon iPhone, but I guess this will tide me over.

I am thinking a different reason. I got a 3gs on release day last year and I spend greater than $100 and my date was 6/20/2010. Just checked and I am eligible now....If the plan was to release in July there was no need to move my date up. I would have been eligible come the 20th of June.

I fully expect the phone to be released the 11th or 18th of June

I just saw this story over on TUAW so I had to check it out. On june 3, it said i was only eligible for the slightly less discounted price until 9/19/2010. Just now it says I'm fully eligible. SWEET!! Time to put my 3GS on Craigslist :D

If i can get enough for it, I may have to sell my wife's as well and get her a new one too and pocket the extra cash. It looks like the 3GS's are listing for around $400 here.

Does anyone know when AT&T or Apple started to take preorders? Was it the same day as the WWDC?

i think last year the preorders began right after wwdc ended. hopefully this yeat will be the same!

This thread made me go check my account. So I have two AT&T phones. On my iPhone 3GS it says i "may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 7/16." That is the line that I upgraded with a new 2 yr contract sometime last november, going from the original iPhone to the 3GS one. Sounds dicey.... "may qualify."

On my other AT&T line, i am now just month to month on an LG CU515 because I still like the phone and as a second line and a non-smartphone, it's cheap and no commitment, so why upgrade it and make a new contract. Anyway on that one, it says "As a valued customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee." So that sounds like "now" to me. As opposed to july 16 on the other one.

So I guess if I REALLY REALLY like what I hear and see of a new iPhone and cannot wait, then I could get a second iPhone on launch day by upgrading from my LG phone, instead of waiting until at least July 16 (assuming launch is in June). But why would I do that do myself?! I live in a dead zone, so having two active iphones with data plans would be stupid. It's close to stupid having the 3GS upgrade and the original iPhone around anyway... but one can use the original iPhone as a WiFi only device, so I do. It's like having an ipod touch with a camera.

So I will probably wait. Having an iPad coming in on June 9 (finally! - ordered it way back on May 22) should be plenty enough new gadget excitement for me for awhile anyway.

In the same boat as the rest of people. AT&T is finally registering my account as eligible for a subsidized price on the iPhone G4 tomorrow. Asked a couple of friends and all of them are in the same situation. Up until today, all of us had our eligible date as 11/21. All three of us had purchased the original iPhone at launch for full price, got the 3G at launch for the discounted rate, paid the "full" price for the 3GS at launch.

Mine used to just give me a partial discount (399/499) and full discount in Nov. I just checked now and it says I'm eligible for full discount!!

:D:D

Looks like the people that are getting moved up are within 2010. Anyone 2011 and out don't get to have a full upgrade, maybe partial.
