Was my case, called 611, was told that since I have a pending order for an iPhone 6 plus (don't forget the plus, lol), they couldn't change the plan until I get my new iPhone... (the iPhone is supposed to be here in the middle of November) so either cancel the iPhone order or hope that the new iPhone will arrive before Oct 31 which is the offer dateline...
I told them to hold their horses, that I was going to think about it...
So... I immediately called my friends at retentions and asked them what is going on... they apologized and told me that they can't change plans until I get my new iPhone... So they did the next best think... they credited $70 for my troubles, they are going to switch me to the 30GB plan at any time when I receive the new iPhone, from this moment on, any data overages between 15GB and 30GB will be covered by the retentions department...

That is exactly why. Thank you, I do have a phone waiting to get here.

For anyone who can't upgrade I just got off the phone with AT&T and am kinda pissed. This is the reason. If you are waiting on a phone upgrade to be delivered and activated you can't switch plans until you have done so. They say it is for some sort of "security reason". Hopefully you get and activate your new phone prior to Oct 31st or you are SOL! I am still waiting on my 6 coming from China. Ug.

I was just able to upgrade from 15 GB to 30 GB online, and I have 2 pending iPhone 6+ orders through the Apple site

Question is, who is giving up unlimited data for this?

I did- gave up two of my lines that had unlimited and switched to the 30gb (60gb after promo) which saved me $20 a month, *and* gave me hotspot tethering on all on my devices. Usage stats showed I never went over 10-12gb's per month across the 3 lines that use the most data (including the two unlimited lines) so this was a no brainer for me.

well I did what I never thought was possible and gave up the unltd data plans....of course I had to see if they still throttled at 5gb before doing it, they did, and I moved to the 30gb plan.:apple:;)

Signed up for this immediately. $30 additional for 20GB more?! Heck yes! Now I never have to worry about my family going over. Very happy with this deal. :D:cool:

:apple:

I am as well. The more I read about it the more I think I'm holding on to my unlimited plans because they don't offer any more rather than I need it.

We are on the unlimited plans and I'm the biggest data hog at about 4 gig max per month. The other users max out at 2.

My question is what are people really experiencing with throttling? Is it a real or imagined thing? Is "unlimited" really unlimited?

----------

Can you please provide exactly what happened when they throttled you?
The web was useless. Pages would time out before they loaded. Voice calls were possible and text messages worked ok, but for me and my family that was about it. Oh yea, when one person went over, all three of us were throttled till the end of the pay period. Only then the web was possible again.
It was maddening.

For those of us who don't use a ton of data (usually on wifi most of the day), I wish they had done the same thing for us on the lower data plans.

I've got a 25% discount right now so I pay $75 for the 10GB of data right now. If I were to switch to the 15GB plan, I'd get 30GB for $97.50. $20.50 for triple the data is very tempting.

I have similar discount (27%) and jumped on this deal. I was already going over by just under 1GB so now I'll get 3x times the data for $20 more. its a no brainer.

They're not that crazy. :)

Seriously, I'm in the same boat. Mostly on Wi-Fi. But I think I'm going to go for the doubled 15GB plan. I won't save any money, but I'll have some headroom for other family members who get an iPhone or tablet, and the tethering will be handy.

I've never gone over the 10GB, but I do watch it closely and we have had to be cautious at the end of the month quite a few times. It might be worth it just so I can use as much data as I want.

So how does getting a new phone work if I was to switch to this double mobile share data ?? I have to buy phones full price or bring my own??

But are they in the shipping process or still waiting? Mine is in the shipping process

You can use their Next program or you can still do 2 yr contract. Your line will just go back to $40 per line. Doesn't affect your data

Mine are still processing. I've got another 3-4 weeks to wait, although it might be less at the rate apple seems to be getting through the 6+ orders

Just upgraded from 10GB to 30GB. Extra $24/mo after my 20% discount. No brainer. We've never gone over 10GB, but then again we use it sparingly. No streaming video when on data and I usually wait till I get home to install app upgrades over 20MB. Now, I can use data freely with no worries.

I also receive a 20% discount from work but where are u getting these numbers from ? How many lines are on your account ? I have 2 lines & the 30gb plan averages out to $134/mo, & the 40gb @ $150

30GB is now $130 and 40GB is $150, before corporate discounts. After I apply 20% discount, $130 drops to $104 and $150 drops to $120. That's for the plan. Then you add the cost per line to that.

I average about 20gb per month across 5 lines and an iPad on my account. My line has unlimited data. The other lines are on an allotted data amount. According to the calculator on AT&T, switching to 30gb Shared will save me almost $100. The 40gb plan will save me about $70. Hmmm. Decisions, decisions.

Assuming you upgrade on a 2-year schedule and plan on continuing to do so, do factor in the subsidy you're getting for your devices - $18.75/mo * 5 = $93.75.

Hey guys I've got a question? Will me changing from the 10gb to the 30gb mess up billing in any way? My current bling cycle doesn't end until the 12th, so would it be better to wait until it's closer to that date?

I tried all day yesterday to change my plan online and couldn't, now I read if you have a new phone coming you can't do it until the new phone is activated. :(
My new iPhone is due to arrive today ..... :D

Can't wait to change my data plan. A few months ago I went from 10gb to 15gb and still watch my use like a hawk getting 30gb for the same price will be great!!!

If I didn't just buy my new phone on the NEXT plan I would go for even more data. This is a great deal!

Pick wisely now

When the promotion is over, it's over. After seeing the thread I called in and upgraded to the 15/30 gig promo. But for 20 more dollars I could have 40 gigs. To me, that's a lot.
that would let me actually stream video sometimes and not have to worry. Us data users have always been hamstrung by ATT's pricing. Even the unlimited plan, when I had it,only let me use up to five gigs before they slowed me down, so it wasn't really useful and unlimited.
I'm going to upgrade to the 20/40 gb plan after Oct 2. That is when my new billing period will start. After October 31 any changes will cause us to go back to the original billing amounts. Isn't that right? So whatever we do during this promotional period needs to be a solid decision.
I know that I am going to hate paying for 40 gb and only using 12,but I don't want to be shortsighted on this either.
