Shiner - I've yet to go to an AT&T store. Just not in a mad dash to do this. It's storming here and still having coffee. I'm going to give AT&T a call about this text "your issue has been resolved" and go from there.
I realize getting a new iPhone each year is going to cost extra money at any given point. I'm just trying to weed through the confusion of what is right vs. not right. Technically I've always hit OVER the $99 point on each line despite adding minutes last week BTW.
I just envision myself bypassing the frenzy and strolling into Apple in the afternoon and hopeing they didn't sell out. Which I expect they won't this time.
But I would like to know if ANYONE has seen their online date move up or down at all since this insanity started. I've yet to see any reports of it.
*new# still says I have to pay full retail pricing and that my upgrade date is 12/12. I think I am going to give up on this fight and hold on to my 3g until next year.

AT&T is again telling me the rule is PURCHASE date of July/Aug/Sept. They are insisting I'm eligible despite OLAM saying December.
Any normal person would be at the store right now but I don't trust this.
I'm on hold for a manager. Seeing bezel alignment issues https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/725968/ Maybe I'll wait a week or so to try for another batch. IDK.
Non-manager gets back on the line says she has 2 statements. One says "purchase date" other says "upgrade eligible date". Was going to get the mgr to settle it and since my notes are at least good and I was staring down the possibility of mgr saying "no" and putting bad notes in - I said "forget it - drop it" and got off the line.
It's not just the bottom line, (which includes taxes, fees, etc.) Add up the talk, data and text fees. If they're $99, you should be golden. If not, call a sales rep and politely insist (only sales dept is supposed to have the magic powers, according to the idiot I talked to). If this doesn't get you the subsidy, ask to talk to someone else and try again.
And if that doesn't work, you can try increasing your plan to above $99, at least temporarily. Some have reported it that works.
Good luck & keep us updated with any developments. 😉
What are you going to do? I live in Oakbrook Illinois and I may try an ATT store, Are there any reports of shortages?
Thanks, I'll try that. I can't go into any stores since I'm overseas, so that would be my only option. I've had a contract with AT&T for around 5 years, so maybe that will help. One can hope.
I actually don't mind if I have to wait until 12/12 as long as I get the full discount at that time, not a partial one. I would just wait until next year's iPhone, but I would be afraid of my 3G being out of warranty and breaking. That's really the motive behind selling the 3G and getting the 3G S, for me.

HERE ARE THE RULES
IF you purchesed your iphone 3G between July-September you AUTOMATICALLY get the upgrade price it cam an effect today so that why those *639# doesnt work just go into the AT&T store and they will tell you
So you are saying the $99 and above statement is false?
I went into a local AT&T store and they told me I had to have upgraded in June/July/Aug of last year (which I did) AND have a VOICE plan of $99.99 or more (which I did not).
They would not let me do the early upgrade. Can't wait to head to T-mobile in January...

T-mobile doesn't give yearly upgrades either...things will be no different with them as all cellular companies are businesses, not charities.

Sounds like pretty good info. Now I wonder if an Apple store will say the same thing. I'd rather get it from Apple in case of bad light leak, etc. They'd be more apt to swap me.
AAhhhh!!!! My head is going to explode! This is the exact information that AT&T put out in the press release. What is so complicated about this people?😱

Will T-Mobile really be better?
