Anyone having an issue with AT&T online? You're account section? it's down for me and gave a message "we are making changes to My Account area" or something like that.

Hmmmm......

A lot of people are going to go there expecting the upgrade price and when they don't get it, we will hear about it here.

Awesome

Yes, and I'm sure the threads will be aptly title so you can avoid them. You know - Like you're not doing here? It's sort of like choosing to avoid tv channels you don't like.

No, I will continue posting in them to point out their stupidity in crying about something that is their own fault.

I choose to inform rather than ignore.

What About People Who Ordered from Apple.com?

All this discussion seems to be dominated by people who ordered from AT&T or are going to either order from AT&T by phone, online or in an AT&T Store.

Here is my story for those of us who pre-ordrered through Apple.

I pre-ordered on June 8th from Apple.com and was told my eligibility for a "full upgrade" (meaning the discounted 199/299) wasn't until January of 2010. I therefore paid $399 +$18 (early upgrade) + $18 activation to upgrade to a Black 16 GB iPhone 3Gs (for a total of $435 as shipping was free).

Today I called both the standard AT&T wireless customer service and the "premiere" customer service line. The "standard" AT&T rep was nice, but completely clueless. She was reading her email to actually get the update on the policy change while we spoke on the phone. She literally couldn't figure out any of my eligibility because I had already pre-ordered from Apple.com so her system wouldn't give her any information about my eligibility prior to that pre-order.

I then hung up and called the "premiere" line. I waited exactly 28 minutes on hold before finally getting someone. She stated to me the following:

"According to the new policy you should be eligible for the full upgrade pricing as of today because:

1.) You purchased your iPhone 3G between July and September of 2008
2.) Your COMBINED monthly service charges (including features and plans) on your accounts is more then $99."

She then said she was noting my account that I was eligible and that I should recieve a reimbursement. However, her "floor support person" told her that because I pre-ordered from Apple, I would need to give Apple a few days, and then call them if I don't receive an email or some other confirmation that I would receive a credit and explain to the Apple people that I should receive the credit, I am eligible and that my account on the AT&T side has been noted.

Can someone in my situation (Apple pre-order, $99+ per month, purchased iPhone 3G in July-September of 08) tell me if they have been given a similar story? If not, what was the story you were given? Any tips on how to get this $200 out of Apple?

I am thinking that getting my $200 from Apple is going to be a challenge at this point.

Pre-Ordered at the store earlier today...

$199/16GB... secured and paid...
- I bought first week 2008, my plan is less than $90, but averaged out, I've paid more than $100 per month this past year.

My upgrade date is sometime in december and I was semi-sure I was not going to be able to get the lower price.

After reading posts here I decided to call att to check. The person on the line ultimately didn't know much about how the qualification worked but entered a note in my account that said I was qualified despite what the system said. I passed by the store today to check if I was really going to be approved tomorrow or if waiting in line was a waste of time... The manager looked at my account, saw the note, but also saw that there was no reason for me to be qualified... I think his intention was to check with someone over the phone. He could not reach anyone and I was ultimately approved and went with the pre-order in case tomorrow turned out to be different for me. This might or might not be the same for anyone else but it worked for me. Thanks guys.

Yep. Lots. Perhaps that's why some are reporting being golden with paying $70, etc. But yet it's also what's upsetting to people. The confusion and seeming randomness of it.

EXACTLY... Before all this began I was completely willing to pay the $399 for my 3GS because I understand the whole subsidy issue... When AT&T starts all this randomness that's when I get mad at them! Okay they have certain qualifications that must be met to get the $199/$299 prices but then they don't even follow them in certain instances as found on this forum!! It is the randomness, cluelessness, etc. that makes people the most upset and angry with them! Just my 2 cents...

Yea it amazes me how confused the representatives can be about the issue, I mean it's launching tomorrow...

I'll keep you guys posted tomorrow, judgement day. PREPARE TO FIGHT, COMRADES.

completely agree. though it would have been nice to get the 299$ price, i was not angry before. just hopeful. now i'm pissed.

I just averaged our 2 iPhones and each line comes out to $119.08 a month.
Acct payment history fine, etc. Been with them 2 years but restarted a year ago launch again.

I probably should be upgradeable early than December anyway. I believe no matter if you paid them $300 per line a month, they would only look at the PLAN you set up and ignore the monies actually sent them in this. ??

okay i was on the phone with a rep who assured me that i will be eligible tomorrow now. but olam with not show that until tomorrow.. if not he provisioned me to be able to use another person on my lines upgrade.

but im hoping I dont have do the second option. i just want my account to show that my line is eligible because i know the apple store most likely will not be able to see the notes made on my account since yesterday and today.

That was a really good article... I think that the guy hit the nail right on the head with how many people are feeling!

I'm not eligible until 12/12. My girlfriend is. We both bought our phones on launch day. She had $5 road assistance on her account and I don't. If I can wait until 12/12 I might as well wait six more months to see what's new next year. I'd upgrade now if I could and add something extra to my account to make sure I'm over $99 but if I renew my contract on 12/12 I'll definitely be screwed next time around. Assuming Apple keep the updates coming every summer.

Changing plan cost --> upgrade eligibility???

Anyone else have luck changing their rate plan to >$99 and becoming eligible for an upgrade? I bought my 3G in early September, and have been told I'm not eligible for an upgrade until January. If I have to wait until then, I'd just as well wait until next summer for the next iteration of the iPhone (on a new network, hopefully:)).

I am relatively happy with AT&T's network in my area (Minneapolis). However, this whole 3G S upgrade, SMS & tethering debacle has shown me that I need a new carrier (today, I had to direct 2 absolutely clueless customer service reps to AT&T's own website to review their policies, which they misinterpreted and then flatly denied were in effect). They had no idea what they were talking about. None.

Pathetic. But hey, at least they were friendly, right;)?

Hmm. I looked at my past 3 bills online, and all of them were over $99, but it is still telling me that I do not qualify for an upgrade. I got my 3G on launch day.

It's not just the bottom line, (which includes taxes, fees, etc.) Add up the talk, data and text fees. If they're $99, you should be golden. If not, call a sales rep and politely insist (only sales dept is supposed to have the magic powers, according to the idiot I talked to). If this doesn't get you the subsidy, ask to talk to someone else and try again.

And if that doesn't work, you can try increasing your plan to above $99, at least temporarily. Some have reported it that works.

Good luck & keep us updated with any developments. ;)

Here's another odd/awesome angle...

First off, I got my first ATT contract on May 1st 2009 (iPhone).

Second, according to "My ATT" I'm eligible for a $399 upgrade price for my 3G to go to a 3G S.

Third, I went into ATT today to confirm this and they all laughed and didn't seem to believe me at all even though I showed them the webpage on my iPhone and told them about ATT announcing it. (Ticked me off pretty bad when they called me a 'kid' and have since reported them to Customer Service.)

Fourth, I called ATT customer sales and got a delightful lady to answer all my questions. Not only am I eligible for the $399 upgrade price, BUT I'm also eligible for a "Swap out"...She wasn't sure which scenario it would be: 1. I give them my 3G and they give me the 3GS as I am such a new customer or 2. I give them the 3G and $200 and they give me the 3GS.

In any case she wrote a long memo on my account for when I walk in today to show the d*****s reps not to screw with a 'kid' (18 btw).

I'll update again once I go there tomorrow morning. Any thoughts??

I think something is wrong. For me, according to the Apple online store, I have to pay $599/699 (16/32GB) for the iPhone 3GS or wait until my contract expires. Which is on November 3rd, 2010. November! Does anyone else have November?!

Anyways, this is just for AT&T to get good press and maybe a bit more money. They said that "most customers" pay over $99 a month. Now how many of you pay over $99 a month and are not on a family plan and just counting your line? I'll bet very few.

I called AT&T earlier today and the most they could do is change my date to April 2010, which may or may not work. Yeah, they said it may or may not work. That is very non-professional. So after all of this, I think I'm just going to be buying the next iPod touch and the next iPhone.

True. I see this more of as a publicity stunt to garner a better image. There are numerous problems with this new policy of theirs. First off, how did they decide on a cut-off date? How are the customers who purchased a phone in September any better than the ones who purchased in October? To me, neither one of them has fulfilled their original contract, so why treat them any differently? This new policy is likely going to cause more bad than good.

Yes, what exactly does this mean? Seems like they are making this stuff up as they go along.
