AT&T continual missteps are killing all the happy-happy joy-joy over the new iPhones.

The Palm Pre or BlackBerry Storm look mighty tempting... since they don't come with AT&T.

Arrrg... Why can't AT&T just get their sh*t together? Clearly written policies posted in a publicly-available place. Anyone? But these, "Ok, now we'll let everyone upgrade" statements with secret caveats are killing their public perception. Even the mainstream press mentions AT&T's "botching" of iPhone launches. Apparently, it doesn't take much skill to be a high-paid executive these days, since AT&T's management seems to have no unified direction.

Interesting that online the system says April but the AT&T store guy said March for my account and all because I had to wait until I could upgrade from my Treo...

I tolerated the Treo but love the iPhone though...

Heck, next year I'll just wait for the 'iPhone 4g' with the phazer, retinal scanner, espresso machine and time warp teleportation...

...killing their public perception.

Was their 'public perception' that good after the 'here we are spying on our customers data' fiasco?

AT&T and all of the other corporations are 'political animals' first and it's all about maintaining their 'receivables' and awarding incompetence.

BUT, on their behalf: They created this 'subsidized' monster so they can't bitch too loudly that it's biting them in the butt. If they just stopped that practice and concentrated on better service and better coverage and features then it would make it worth it to buy a cell fone...

Pwned and other December dates that got a 'note' from AT&T in the last few days be sure to check in when you go buy your iPhone and report on what price you get!

Had a note...

Read my previous post, had a bit of trouble but I did get the lower price.
Good Luck

EXACTLY... Before all this began I was completely willing to pay the $399 for my 3GS because I understand the whole subsidy issue... When AT&T starts all this randomness that's when I get mad at them! Okay they have certain qualifications that must be met to get the $199/$299 prices but then they don't even follow them in certain instances as found on this forum!! It is the randomness, cluelessness, etc. that makes people the most upset and angry with them! Just my 2 cents...

I'm with you. If everyone was the same I'd be fine but if someone else who bought on the same day with the same plan as me gets the 32gb for $299 I'm not paying $499 for the same thing.

do we know for sure that someone who bought the iPhone 3G first week at the 450min plan and did not pay full price for the 3G gets it for 299?

My girlfriend did. We both stood in line together. The only difference was she had the $5 road hazard which she's paid $55 for so far. Her before tax bill isn't more than $99. After tax its about $103.

Be careful all. I called ATT yesterday to confirm eligibility of the new upgrade pricing, the service rep took a look at my account and said that I would be qualified for the 199.99 and 299.99 price points. I questioned that if i pre-ordered from Apple would I receive a credit, he assured me and gave me a number to Apple to call to verify. I called Apple, they said everything was a go and that it was taking their systems some time to update. This morning I get my phone, charged the 399.99 price plus and upgrade fee. No reason to panic just need to check to verify that at some point I'll receive a credit. I call ATT to see if I will receive the credit on my bill or on my credit card. They say that I should not have been quoted the lower upgrade price and that their representatives were telling many people within the last 2 days that they were eligible for the lower upgrade price. So now I am back to the old pricing, and they can't look at my account. Im going to wait till next week till the dust settles and have them look at things. There really is no reason that I should not have been eligible for the new price points. Bill is 110.00 a month for the last year if not more and I purchased the new phone 2 days after release.

this is exactly what i feared would happen (in bold)

family plan? can you post her bill payment history?

First off, I got my first ATT contract on May 1st 2009 (iPhone).

Second, according to "My ATT" I'm eligible for a $399 upgrade price for my 3G to go to a 3G S.

Third, I went into ATT today to confirm this and they all laughed and didn't seem to believe me at all even though I showed them the webpage on my iPhone and told them about ATT announcing it. (Ticked me off pretty bad when they called me a 'kid' and have since reported them to Customer Service.)

Fourth, I called ATT customer sales and got a delightful lady to answer all my questions. Not only am I eligible for the $399 upgrade price, BUT I'm also eligible for a "Swap out"...She wasn't sure which scenario it would be: 1. I give them my 3G and they give me the 3GS as I am such a new customer or 2. I give them the 3G and $200 and they give me the 3GS.

In any case she wrote a long memo on my account for when I walk in today to show the d*****s reps not to screw with a 'kid' (18 btw).

I'll update again once I go there tomorrow morning. Any thoughts??
Yes, my thought is lose the attitude. If you act like a kid, then they'll treat you like one.

We just checked for the first time last night, we never called. We assumed because I couldn't upgrade neither could she but we were wrong.

my bill is around $160 a month for 3 lines - my iphone line some how got moved from the primary number to a secondary line.. anyway, i bought the original 2g, then the original 3g at launch... but im not upgrade eligible until march of 2010?. oh well. she offered it to me at $399... i of course said no thanks.

160 for 3 lines is nowhere near 99 a line.

i am going to either buy for 499 or add a new line and keep it at 9.99 for 2 years (rather pay 240 over 2 years than 200 now) pending miracles...

I was never upset about the original upgrade price of 399.99, however after being told that I could get the lower price, one gets a little more excited and this confirmed that I was going to get the device. At 199.99 it was not that big of a deal as I knew I could make the purchase price back on eBAy, however I truly feel that my plan fit the requirements of the new upgrade plans. Hopefully, things will be worked out.

Bought my 16GB 3G on launch day last year. I was told at the Apple store this morning I was NOT eligible for the 199/299 pricing. 16GB=399 and 32GB=499.:mad::mad: I would have been cool had I not had the expectation I could get the lower pricing.

Has anyone EVER seen their olam/text date change at all?

I got a text over night saying "your issue has been resolved". I do the *639# thing & check online - still December.

I'm convinced reps got a different memo than the published "upgrade eligible" July/Aug/Sept memo. They all tell me "purchase date" of those dates and I see this repeatedly in threads. I did ask for a copy of the rules but they can't send email to customers, etc. She read it to me though and it was clearly "purchase date". LOL

I'm going to give them a call right now for sh*ts and giggles. I'm fully prepared to pay the $399/$499 prices. I just hope for that price point - Next year I get my cheap upgrade. Anyone know?

Not being hostile in anyway today.. but have you gone down to an AT&T store or apple store and talked to anyone in person? It seems people are having mixed results with the phone reps vs the store reps.

Believe me you will have problems next year as well. You are signing a 2 year contract with a subsidized phone price of $399 vs $699. Next year you will have to pay the same. This is the only reason I ever bothered to post in here. It seems no one realizes the phone needs to be paid for.

I would be interested to hear what they tell you! Just for kicks...

Shiner - I've yet to go to an AT&T store. Just not in a mad dash to do this. It's storming here and still having coffee. I'm going to give AT&T a call about this text "your issue has been resolved" and go from there.

I realize getting a new iPhone each year is going to cost extra money at any given point. I'm just trying to weed through the confusion of what is right vs. not right. Technically I've always hit OVER the $99 point on each line despite adding minutes last week BTW.

I just envision myself bypassing the frenzy and strolling into Apple in the afternoon and hopeing they didn't sell out. Which I expect they won't this time.

But I would like to know if ANYONE has seen their online date move up or down at all since this insanity started. I've yet to see any reports of it.
