AT&T - iPhone 3G on Backorder for 5-7 Days.

The iphoneconvert site is blocked now from AT&T's servers. He put the source on his site if you want to run the PHP from your own webserver.

I'm looking at the orders from my store's zipcode and the very first order has still not shipped. My phones were almost the last 2 from opening day, and we are up to 17 & 18 in the queue. So I feel really bad for the guy who is #1, and I am really hoping that my phones are in the next big shipment out. We were #41 earlier today, and the backorder status was 0 for a long time today. So I think a LOT of phones moved today.
 
I got some!!!

So... my girlfriend really wanted this iphone3g and we were tired of waiting. I went directly to the apple store in king of prussia, pa .... first thing Friday morning.

The line was already wrapped around the mall. I waited 8 hours, yes.. count them, 8 TOTAL DAMN HOURS......well, at least my friend went with me so WE waited 8 hours.... but we got them.

I got 1 white 16gb, and 1 black 16gb... the white one is my girlfriends. My friend also got a black 16gb iphone.

The wait is over!!! Oh, and by the way... the phone is worth waiting for, if you can handle waiting. lol

Also, really quick for you new iphone3g owners.... if you get a screen protector, go with the "anti-glare screen protectors", they are better... less shiny and no smudges or fingerprints.

Then, get yourself a belkin case regardless of what anyone tells you from the apple store, they're really nice. So are the n-case ones.
 
The tracking site is so behind it's not funny. Checked last night at around 11:30 and I was still on 0, frt, 1. Woke up this morning at 7:30 and It's been shipped(left Memphis at 5:30 yesterday.) and should arrive around noon, which puts it at 5 business days, so I suppose I shouldn't complain. As I've been tracking the shipments from my local AT&T store from the order on the 11th, this is how its shaking out as of this morning:

Of the 38 phones ordered

27 have shipped, 7 cancelled, 4 still on backorder.

13th-2
14th-5
15th-9
16th-2
17th-1
18th-7


For the 12th: 36 ordered, 4 cancelled, three shipped on the 17th, 29 backordered. At least around here, if you ordered later than the 11th,...bummer.

There is no rhyme or reason whatsoever as to the order in which they were shipped. I can only assume the longer waits went to the black 16gig buyers. I feel for y'all. but as of noon, I'm done with this mess, until of course, as my luck would dictate, something goes horribly awry and the thing won't work for me.;)
 
The second phone that was ordered under my name (my husband & I both ordered on Friday at 6:00 PM) has now shipped. The first one shipped Tuesday & this one shipped last night. Both 8 Gig models. Now I can obsessively watch my mother's order. She placed hers on Thursday for an 8 Gig :).
 
AT&T puts it's real customers last in queue

Here's an interesting story:

Ordered a 16GB Black iPhone through DF at an AT&T store early last Saturday. Estimate for delivery was yesterday, but it's still back ordered.

Ordered a 16GB Black iPhone through work (Fortune 50 company) early Thursday, it shipped the same day and I received it yesterday before noon. Glad I have something to play with, but it's frustrating to discover first hand that the shortage is being artificially generated by AT&T.

AT&T clearly has the inventory, they've just put their real revenue generators at the back of the queue.

There are no phones in the state of Texas at any of the Apple stores today. BUT both of my phones shipped last night and are currently in my city. I should get a call (correction - I WILL call) after lunch to go fetch them.

The order confirmation site was several hours behind, too.
 
Are shipments going out over the weekend? Should I suspend my compulsive checking to see if my DF order has been filled till Monday?
 
this is absolute f***ing bulls***. i am so fed up with the apple store and at&t. every time i talk to someone, they each tell me something different. every time i go to the apple store i am turned away for various reasons (lines are ridiculous and me being short on time, FAN discounts and the inability to purchase an iphone if you have one (something they didn't make clear on either theirs or at&t's website), primary user nonsense (i've been told by 2 apple store employees authorized users can purchase an iphone if they know the primary's ssn until a third one said otherwise)). i don't mind driving to the apple store, cause it's the same distance as the at&t store i did a DF at, but to go there 4 out of 7 days and getting denied each time is terrible. TWICE, i was in line and ready to get an iphone and both times i was told "sorry, we can't help you (FAN and primary)." at this point i'm thinking "f*** the apple store i'm not coming here again" but right now that looks to be my only option because at&t loves to keep their info on DF orders a secret. i was out of town and unable to do a DF until monday, which at that point i was told i was about the 150th person. cool, i'm fine with waiting, they must get 30 a day, right? well no, they get "various" amounts everyday and i should expect mine within a few days. well the first shipment was for 15 and not everyone who ordered on friday got theirs. now at&t isn't allowed to tell customers how many orders they get a day because that's a secret. the only thing they can tell me is that i should be the "5th or 6th wave", i'm assuming that's shipments right? well today is day 5 of shipments and i'm still backordered so what the f*** at&t? can you please not f***ing lie to me? if i should expect my iphone to get there in 10 days, don't tell me that it might get there earlier in about 5. i'm tired of f***ing waiting and i'm tired of my current broken phone. my family has been with at&t for 10 years, i think loyalty should mean something at this point, especially if we have to put up with your bulls*** f*** ups on our phone bills every other month and your lousy customer service
 
Black 16GB arrives on Monday "by 3pm"

First, thanks to all of you who have been supportive during this possibly avoidable, stressful time. I have been neurotically checking the AT&T order status page for days and days, only to watch my backorder status go from 1 to 0 to 1. I was excited to see that my phone shipped Friday morning via FedEx for standard overnight but was bummed to see that expected delivery is Monday. I would have loved to use the weekend to play with the phone but oh well. I am sorely disappointed in Apple for how they've handled this demand. In all of the news articles I read leading up to July 11, there was much downplay on the 3G hype since it was a second release. I have not had to wait this long for much bigger ticket items, like a car!

There had better be some long-term concession for all of us who had to wait well over a week to get a phone!
 
Ordered Saturday at 2 P.M. and was told 5-7.... but right now I'm just watching my 1's and 0's go back and forth.

First of all, thanks to ALL of you! I would've been dead this past week without ya'll. Well, I ordered my 8gig on Sunday the 13th and have heard from numerous people that it is now an additional 10 days to the original 7 days if it was ordered on the 13th and on. I am just about to lose it. AT&T has been no help whatsoever and Apple...well screw them. Can anyone confirm or dispute that rumor? Also, what do you think my luck is at getting it this Monday? Do they ship over the weekend?
 
Just a note... don't trust the availability thing on Apple's site at all. I have a DF shipment but when I saw the St. Louis Galleria store had some 16gb blacks in I stayed up all night to get to the store at 5:45 before anyone else. I waited in like for 5 hours after they told me they had no 16gbs and didn't know why the site was saying they had them. And all the shipments they received that day were 8gb. Back to waiting on my DF order... sad, sad, sad.
 
Just a little something to keep you busy if you're waiting, the 3G won't work with any version of iTunes except the latest, version 7.7 If you haven't yet, download it & have it installed by the time you bring your phone home & save yourself the hassle. Momentary freakout when I saw the window come up and say the phone won't work with this version of iTunes:eek:, then I read further & was directed to upgrade. Whew!

Of course, halfway through the download, Vista decides to update afterbeing told to postpone, thereby shutting the computer down to restart. Start from scratch. (In best Charleton Heston voice,...)

"Damn you Vista! Damn you to Heeeeeeellllllllll!"

i know the feeling guys.. i talked to att customer support and they said they had no idea.. but the guy did have a long pause at first as if he wanted to tell me something.. my friend who got his iphone wanted to go to the att store to pick up a case so i went along.. lady at the desk said i could probably expect mine by tuesday but who knows

I've done that and trying to get my album art to sync. Anyone found a good program to pull album art itunes doesn't have?

Also been pulling nice wallpapers from http://www.nativeiphoneapps.com/

And downloading apps from the apps-store, even though I can't use them..

Anyone else have some good to-do's while we wait?

I got my phones (both mine and my wife's). I ordered 2 8gb phones last Friday evening.

I also updated my ruby script to clean it up a little more. Y'all are welcome to use it to keep tabs on your orders. I will warn you that the AT&T order status screen is probably a good 8 hours behind reality, though. I went to bed at 2 AM last night and mine was still on backorder when in reality it had shipped at 8:30 PM.

To run the script you can copy and past it into TextMate and just run it from there. if you don't have TM you can do the following:
- copy/paste the code from my blog (http://blog.websitesbybarrett.com/past/2008/7/18/iphone_backorder_status/) into some text editor on your mac
- remove the first line if you don't know where your ruby installation is located
- update the constants at the top (ORDER_NUMBER_LOWER_LIMIT, ORDER_NUMBER_UPPER_LIMIT, ZIPCODE)
- save it somewhere as att.rb
- open a terminal session and navigate to the directory where you saved the file
- type ruby att.rb

A Trip to my AT&T Store and the Apple Store Yesterday

I went to my local AT&T store with the script in hand of all the orders from the store. They confirmed that the data matched but all they had received was 16G White. I ordered two 8G versions early last Sunday and the store manager "confirmed" that it was still 5-7 days for my order...we will see. One girl in front of me was upset when she heard me talking to the mgr about how the 16G whites were coming in faster as she had just ordered a 16G black and they would not let her change the order. I wish I had ordered a white version...if only we could go back in time!

That evening, I went to my local Apple store in the Tampa Mall. The mgr and I were taking about what a cluster @#$% this whole thing has been. FL seems to be out of phones except for Miami. The Tampa store got like 10 8G in on Friday AM and that was it. I asked about the FAN issue and what a pain is the @#$ it was. She said that this was not part of Apple's plan and that AT&T made it a requirement. That said, I think that Apple shorted AT&T on the number of phones. As a Supply Chain Professional, I can say with experience how messed up this is and that it could of easily been done much better to keep the customers happy but welcome to a monopoly!

I watched the AT&T system "convert" my two phones off of backorder all day yesterday (since this apparently happens when inventory arrives at the WHS but it does not mean the inventory is for you). I was hoping for a ship but no back to 1. From what I can tell nothing has moved today (as FedEx does not "run" unless they have made a special arrangement $$$$). I would not expect to see shipments going out again until Monday.:apple:
 
I've had the same problem with my backorder number bouncing from 0-1 constantly but it finally looks like it will ship out soon.

After using that script posted it seems like I'm first out of the last 5 people who ordered on launch day and still haven't received anything.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that we all ordered the 16 gig black considering that we were skipped while other people after us had their orders shipped.
 
Well, I'm getting a little tired of waiting for my 8G to show up, so I'll probably head to the Apple store on Monday morning and pick one up. The DF can be for my wife when it shows up.

On the plus side, since I don't have a job right now I can spend as much time as I want in line during the week. ;0)

Oh, and what's this "FAN" acronym stand for that I see people referencing? I'm not familiar with it.
