I completely agree that Apple is really responsible for the shortage, at least in the US. I am reading that their stores are receiving shipments daily of all three models. There is no excuse for this.

I went to the Apple Store in Louisville, KY after finding out they had all the phones in stock (which was not the case yesterday) and people were walking out with them, no problem.

This whole distribution problem is Apple's fault, 100%. They could spread the wealth and actually supply their main supplier, AT&T, and not make so many people so angry. I'm convinced it's a marketing ploy to get people to wait in hour-long lines inside their stores that conveniently wrap around their product displays so that they play with them in line. What happens when they play with a really cool Apple product (as most of them very well are)? They come back for more! If AT&T stores sold MacBooks and iPods in their stores, we wouldn't have this problem, now would we?

i agree, but... This phone is an option, nothing more. Its not mandatory to have one (as much of us have come to believe, including me).

So to be so ticked about something that is purely optional, well...

I have better things to worry about :) last straw or not.

YES we are obsessed, we all want this phone so badly we resorted to express our anger, impatience, anxiety, etc. via this forum. But I've got news for ya buddy... YOU DID TOO! and you apparently don't have much better things to worry about either.

Finally got my iPhone! How, you ask? I just cancelled the order at the AT&T store and got it at the Apple store. they had a plethora of them laying around.. :D

If you go to an Apple Store that has the phones and you are an AT&T customer, you need to make sure of 2 things:

1. YOU are the primary account holder. If you are just an authorized user on the account (such as on family plans), you must have the primary account holder physically with you. I went up there b/c I didn't want to wait any longer on the shipments, and lo and behold, I could have walked out of the store 30 mins later with a 16GB Black but my father was not with me (nor could he be b/c he lives in another state). I showed the manager our AT&T account page on their in-store computer with all our information, got my father on the phone, and he still would not let me buy the phone. I could have easily just opened another plan, but I wanted to keep my phone number.

2. If you have any discounts, you must call and get them taken off temporarily, otherwise you can't upgrade. You can get them put back on once you visit an AT&T store afterward, however.
 
just got off the phone with at&t customer service. very helpful (or tried to be) and nice girl. she tried to help but to no avail, there was nothing she could do. she said my store (plainfield, IL) got a shipment in today and will be getting one tomorrow and monday for sure. i asked her why people were getting phones before others (i ordered 8g on 7/11 and i know people 20 orders behind got theirs). she said at&t has no control over that and apple has been sending them orders with names already attached to the box of phones. she said as far as it looks to her it is apple's fault and gave me 800-694-7466 (800 my iphone) to call and complain.
 
My phone just got delivered to my AT&T Store about 15 minutes ago according to FedEx. I want to call them but, in good conscious, am holding myself back not to bother them too soon. For those who got their phoness through DF, how long until I should expect a call from my store (after they "process" the shipment) from when it was delivered?
 
You're really worried about "bothering" them...LOL

You're way too nice. I would be there with weapons demanding my stuff, the hotest chick in the store and a get away car...
 
My AT&T store (80023, Broomfield/Thornton, CO) got 3 in today, but (the specific rep I spoke to) has taken an additional 30 orders in the last 24 hours or so, not sure how many additional from the other 2-3 reps that are usually there. Looks like a big backup in this small Denver suburb though.

Not sure when my 8GB will arrive (ordered last weekend), nothing on the status page that gives any hope.

Hopefully I'll have my new iPhone and new glasses before heading out of town next week. Not sure why my glasses are delayed. I didn't buy them from Apple... :p
 
the AT&T store I ordered from (Austin, Texas) last saturday received 46 DF orders the first day (7/11/2008). Of those 46 all but 10 have been shipped. Hopefully most of the remaining 10 will show as shipped later today meaning AT&T can start chipping away at last saturday's orders a few of which have already been shipped. At least AT&T appears to be receiving some stock from apple every day.
 
This just occurred to me. If they are only shipping 1 of many to people who ordered with a spouse, which is what appears to be happening, then I will get to carry my family plan with Verizon and AT&T until the second phone comes in. I could also redo my Verizon plan after the first phone is ported.

Not cool guys.

My girlfriend and I (both under the same name) ordered last friday evening and we both received them this week. A 16gig white on Tuesday and a 16gig black yesterday.

People are getting so freaked out about all this, theres really no reason for it, yet.

Now if it was going on 8-9 business days, id be with the complainers, but it hasnt, for anyone.

8-9 days sheesh! thats not bad. I was quoted 10-14. I guess Welcome to the crowd pal.

i don't know if calling and complaining helps but i just checked my status an hour after complaining to both at&t and apple and all of a sudden my phone is being shipped and estimated delivery is going to be monday.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see. It seems that those ordered last Friday are finally getting pushed out today.
 
Finally got mine

Got fedex tracking number today. Will be in on Monday. Apparently they are shipping overnight, but they are not paying extra for Saturday shipments to my knowledge. I hope you all get yours soon.

Ordered: 8 gig black on friday at 10 am, was 10th in line for direct fulfillment.
Location: Columbus, Ohio

I just checked the status of my order on att.com and under quantity backorder it only says 1 for the freight now and 0 for the phone. Does this mean my phone coming soon??? Because that would be awesome!

Do I have hope?

No, they all do that. Best we figure, when the warehouse has them and is in the process of filling orders, they have 0 backordered.

hope that wasn't too big a disappointment.

From what I've read thus far today, many orders have been switching between 1 and 0, back and forth multiple times. It's suppose to mean that the warehouse it's in either has phones in stock (0 Backordered) or it does not (1 Backordered). I don't think you can really tell when it's going to ship based on that b/c some people say it will switch back to (1 Backordered) and then they will check in the morning and it has actually shipped.

When did you order your phone and which model? That has a lot to do with when it will ship, apparently. White 16GB's are shipping within 1-2 days of ordering, while both Black models are behind.

I ordered it saturday morning and was told 5-7 days. (Tomorrow is 7 days) I have been waiting for this phone for an extremely long time and growing more and more impatient. I would drive to an apple store but the closest one is 2 hours away. I dont have time to make that kind of trip
 
My husband & I each ordered an 8 Gig Friday evening. His came in, mine has not. It is still backordered. I can't imagine that someone wrote a program that said to put people who ordered more than one at the bottom of the queue. It is just unimaginable. Yet here I sit a week later with my phone not shipped & Saturday & later people getting theirs.

There is HOPE!!!

I figured I should let everyone know there is a light at the end of the tunnel for all you 16GB Black buyers. I was the first DF order at the AT&T in West Dundee, IL on 7/11. It was shipped this morning and FedEx shows a delivery date of 7/21.

If only it was shipped yesterday I would have had the whole weekend to enjoy the new phone. Oh well... Just very glad to know its on its way.
 
wow! my phone shipped priority overnight today. i should have it by noon tomorrow CST. can't wait!
 
When I go to pick up my phone from the ATT store, do i need to make a appointment or can I just walk in whenever? My day off is sunday... but tomorrow, I'm working all day from 9am to 11pm so I might not have a chance to call them to set one up for sunday...
