I know how you feel. I ordered mine on the 12th after waiting on line for 2 and a half hours (although a lot of you waited on line a lot longer than that) and it's still on back-order.

Sounds about right. I told my parents to invest into Apple in 2003. Their kicking themselves in the ass right now for going with Kmart. I wish I would have had some cash laying around

I told my parents back in the late 90's when the stock was trading for like $17/share. That was right before they introduced OS X.
I read a column that basically stated that M$ would never let Apple go under because of Anti-trust. Shortly after M$ invested 100M into Apple and Steve Jobs took control and you know the rest as history.
I did calculations and a measly 10k would be worth 150K+ now.

Well, its time to say goodbye to this thread for me. It has been therapeutic for me. Thank you all for your tools, stories etc. Like has been said previously, "its worth the wait". Just picked mine up finally. It was a long 10 days but I have it and its wonderful. So long guys.

Ok, here's the #'s for my store (ordered 8GB on the 12th/13th):
12th: 4 of 9 shipped
13th: 1 of 15 shipped (not mine)
My order number is only 2 digits, it won't accept any more than that.

I ordered on 07/11 around 8:30am. I was the first at the AT&T store to have to order. Everyone in front of me got phones. I ordered a black 16G. I did get an email this morning saying it did finally ship. It should be arriving in the store today. My AT&T store said they get shipments around 1:30pm PST. Oh wait that is about now, I going to call and then run up there to see if it is in. Best of luck to you all.

It is going to be about 7-10days. Unless they are getting caught up and able to get them out faster. It would also depend on which phone you ordered. The longest wait time is for black 16G. Good luck to you. Oh, by the way, it will probably go back and forth from backordered to not backordered a few times before it ships.
All of the 7/11 orders at my store have shipped. 7/12 is fulfilled too except for about 10 orders out of almost 40. The rest of the dates have phones shipped randomly here and there. I'm #45 in the queue at my store. Hopefully I'll have it by the end of the week.

I have an INSANE story to share! MY IPHONE HUNT SAGA!
Went to local At&t store on 7/16 - placed a DF for the iphone (the ever popular 16g/blk.) A day later I got my confirmation email. I must admit the FRT backorder was weird. What the heck is a backordered freight!!!!
Later that next day, I saw in a forum to call your local Apple store to check on their stock. They get more than at&t. On Friday (7/18) I call and am told the Apple Store have LOADS of all the iphones! YIPPEE! I head to the Apple store - wait in line for only 50 minutes! With the 16g box in front of me, the apple sales clerk begins gathering my information. As we get to the end, he gets an error code! One he's NEVER seen before!!!! He wanders the store showing it to all Apple staff. No one has seen this code before. At one point the guy had five staff members around him!
He finally calls At&t who says my credits fine! THEY will activate me "with no deposit" from their end. Unfortunately Apple Stores can't do that, so again he tries to run my info through. Still gets the activation error. GREAT! It took a long long time for them to figure it out. The problem? My DF!!!!! Yep, for whatever reason my DF would not allow my information to go through - at least thats what the Apple Store folks said.
The clerk felt really bad for me - he told me he would hold my iphone for me - he gave me a ticket stubb - attached the other part to the phone! All I needed to do was go to AT&T in the morning and cancel the DF. YIPPEE!
NEXT DAY: I head to AT&T to cancel the backorder. The manager came up to me, introduced herself, but (without looking at my receipt or my order online) informed me that they cannot cancel a DF. She told me I could cancel it when it arrived? WHAT! She was nice, but firm. The phone's DF cannot be canceled. I was so upset. I just turned and left the store.
Back in the car I called the 866 number on my At&t receipt. I got a wonderful gal. She spent an hour on the phone with me. She called my AT&T store multiple times (that never came out well.) She looked up information. She was awesome. Finally she called another store in town - This other at&t store said I could "come on in"...with or without a receipt they could cancel my order. YIPPEE!
I thank the AT&T lady over and over again. SHE ROCKS! Just to be on the safe side (and because I was now in their parking lot) I run into the Apple Store to confirm that they still have my beloved 16g/blk. NOT!!!! They didn't hold it (I had a friend tell me she didn't think they would.) It was GONE GONE GONE! And all they had left were 8gs.
Sooooo I left - I never went to the other AT&T store. I spent two days on this dang iphone. CRAZY!
This morning for the third time since I placed this order, my phone was off backorder but my frt was not. Now both are back on backorder. I don't know what that means but it is really starting to tick me off! If you have a phone for me, could you PLEASE find some frt to go with it!!!! The whole frt thing is insane. Do I really need to see how frt is doing?
If anyone was able to purchase an iphone while having an iphone on DF - let me know!!!! Or maybe don't. LOL At this point I might just cry!

My saga is almost over.
Black 16 GB, ordered on 7/11 around 7:30 PM.
Shipped this morning at 10 AM.
It will be 7 business days from order to get to my hands; I wouldn't have minded if that's what the AT&T rep had told me, but no, he said 3-5 days... oh wells, whatever.

Well, I went to AT&T this am and canceled my DF for the 8GB Black and ordered a 16GB white. We'll see how long this takes. Ordered at 10:18am.
Cancelling DFs
Sorry you got abused by AT&T. I had an order outstanding on an 8gb iPhone that I placed on Sunday, the 13th, in Folsom, CA. I then had regrets on getting an 8 gb, so I went to another AT&T store (Sacramento - Downtown Plaza) and cancelled the DF. I then ordered the 16gb black on Monday the 14th. No problem what so ever. The clerk was experienced and did it in about 10 min. I am, of course, still on back order.
My boss who stood in line all day on the 12th at the AppleStore in Sacramento and got his wife a the 16gb but had a severe hassle getting our FAN discount on service. I am not sure if waiting is worse or the the hassle avoided.
I just got an LG Dare for work and it is a very poor sub for the iPhone. It will be worth the wait!

Thanks for that info, I would have never figured that out!....I confirmed that my black 16GB has still not shipped & is still listed as "backordered"..I ordered on the 12th after waiting in line Saturday morning @ 5:00 AM.
I probably would have gotten a phone had I waited, but after standing in line for a few hours, I realized that the 16GB's would be sold out by the time I got in so I bailed....no sense settling for something that I'm going to have for 2 years. They told me 7-10 days...don't think it's going to happen now.
I actually went to 2 stores that morning and found out that both stores had only 40 phones each.
I ordered a second black 16GB today and they told me 10-21 days.
