I think my wait for 8gb is just about over. Its been since 7/13 when ordered and today I noticed my credit card was charged by DF. This is not the original hold funds from the store so I am assuming this is the 2nd charge which is when the phone is shipping.

Finally....

Ordered my 16 GB Black on 7/12, was told 7-10 days (not business days). So today is day 10. I'm #2 in the queue and the funds are now pending on my bank account. So it should ship today.

Crap thing is I already sold my 1st gen iPhone, so for the past week I've been using a crappy old samsung clamshell phone. It's painful.

But on the bright side, my invisible shield will show up today.

After visiting 2 different Apple stores a total of 6 times in the past 8 days and failing each time to leave with an iPhone, I am relieved to say that AT&T came through during the wee hours of the morning and shipped my phone. I woke up at 6am ready to wait in line again at the Apple store, but checked my order status one more time before I left, and lo and behold, it shipped. Well, like it was for everyone else, this forum was reassuring to me that I wasn't the only one getting shafted by both companies in the process of getting an iPhone. Thanks for venting along with me and best of luck to everyone else that's still waiting.

I ordered my 8Gb (now wishing I'd ordered a 16Gb white one!) on the 15th and was told 10-21 days for delivery! We'll see how that goes! I was just wondering how you check your place in the queue?

Cheers

DF Canceling BS?

My wife and I went to cancel our DF orders b/c we're sucking it up and getting on line at the Apple store. I went into the AT&T store and they said they can't cancel the order until it comes in. Sounds like nannigans to me- can anyone verify this?

I'd like to know how to check queue location as well... can someone help a bit... sorry if that has been covered already, but I couldn't seem to find the details... thanks folks! Reading this forum has made the waiting ALMOST bearable, especially the "Hooray! My iPhone finally shipped..." posts. I am almost always convinced the universe is plotting against me when I order stuff like this (especially since finding that several orders placed AFTER mine were shipped already) Thanks again Rumorists!

I was actually told at the time I placed my order that DF orders could not be canceled until the phone had been received at the store. I have also been reading in the posts here that if you have a DF order in process, you will be locked out of purchasing an iPhone at the Apple store. I almost tried to do that myself, but the store in Seattle Southcenter, near where I was visiting for the weekend was sold out... go figure! I guess once they have your CC number, they also have you by the short-hairs! I just wish they were more communicative with us poor compulsive technophiles!

They can cancel DFs. I'd ordered a 8gig on 7/11 but changed to a 16blk on 7/14. It wasn't because I was changing orders either. It was a whole new order.

They had to dig around to figure out how to cancel the 7/11 order.
The DF system isn't something they use very often, so they don't know the system that well. The option was under View ->DF and then cancel.

Others have had their DFs canceled as well. And people have reported buying from Apple and then going to ATT and canceling their DF.

They CAN cancel DF orders as long as it's still pending. If the order has shipped (meaning they charged your credit card) you can't cancel it, and you have to wait 7 days to refuse it.

They just don't want to lose money (or it's possible that the person doesn't know how to cancel the order), but they can cancel DF orders. You just have to push them.

I've seen posts where people said they planned to go and get the phone at an apple store THEN go back and cancel their DF. But I've not seen anyone who said they actually did it. Apple would not allow me to get a phone because of my DF. They weren't real sure of why either, I think blaming it on the DF was a guess?? Long story (see my earlier posts)

Canceling DF: My local store said NO - but I called the AT&T number on my receipt - they said its possible but can only be done in the stores. A local store other than the one that I purchased from, offered to cancel for me however I ran out of time and never tried it.

Just registered after finding this thread Saturday or Sunday from google searching "iPhone backorder."

I have an LG Voyager and have been a Verizon customer for 4 years, not having a cell phone before that. I am on my 4th Voyager and they will not let me return the phone and get a refund since my last replacement was March and they have a 30 day refund policy. Maybe before I switch, I'll get another replacement so I can get a refund. I've had it with Verizon and their shoddy service. I can be talking on my phone laying in bed and then walk 3 feet over to my computer and drop the call. I love the idea of the phone itself, but it is crap. Between shutting itself off in my pocket, restarting itself, not being able to go on the web and taking 30 seconds to send a txt that simply says something like "OK" is absolutely unacceptable. They can take their ETF and shove it up their a.......

I ordered an 8GB iPhone 7/16 around 6:30pm from my friend at AT&T in Woodbury, NY.
All I've received so far is an email with a link to check order status. I only hope my phone comes before my new month at Verizon starts on August 5th.

Ok - so I figured out a rather tedious method for checking your place in the queue. Head to the order status site:

https://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/order_status

Using the order number from the email I was sent I then found my order - make sure to use the zip code of the store. This showed my order correctly. You'll see an order number that will be the actual place in the queue. I then went back and entered order numbers lower than mine until I found ones that had shipped. The latest to have shipped is order 125 (placed 7/13 and shipped 7/21) so only 40 to go....could take some time!

I checked the tracking information and they seem to be shipping from Fort Worth, TX and taking between 1 and 2 days.

I also found this site:

http://digg.com/apple/AT_T_Queue_Checker_iPhone_3G

You'll have to download a little app that will check the entire queue using a start and end number. Since I'm at work I'm not downloading it to try it....

lurker speaking up

Hey all... ordered 8g on 07/15 in Tampa FL...told "7-10 for arrival BUT orders have been taking about 3 days..." still waiting and hoping for the best. There seems to be debate over the waiting period being working days or just "days." In days I've been waiting 7 but only 5 working days. Major down side is that I'm leaving on vacation tomorrow. I so wanted to have the new phone to play with on the trip. Unless it is shipped today it will now be a welcome home gift post vacation.

Keep posting those ... "I got my phone..." messages - they are encouraging. :)

What a relief. Finally in the position that my 8gb from 7/13 has SHIPPED. Will be in store tomorrow (weds 7/23) by 3PM Fedex. Happily its also my day off work Weds. Hopefully they speed up the orders for the rest of you as I experienced the same impatience that most of you have. I also recommend that you consider signing up with squaretrade.com as they will provide 3 year warranty and 3 year accidental repair/replacement for iphone3g. You have to tell them the original price amount without discounts which is $599 8gb or $699 16gb. Since mine is 8gb the total 3 year paid is $70 for malfunctions and $70 for accidental coverage such as dropping, water damage, etc. Worth $140 instead of paying hundreds for another iphone3g.

My order from the 12th for the 16 gb black iPhone keeps on changing for the "QTY Back-Ordered", yesterday it was "0" for the phone and today it's back to "1". It did the same thing this past Sunday. Is it possible for me to cancel my Direct Fulfillment order with my AT&T store and just pick up my iPhone at my local Apple Store instead for the same price since I am new customer?

Mine was doing the same thing. I ordered my 2 on the 18th.

In my opinion, it will probably ship any day now. You can still get one from Apple but I think I'd wait a day or two.

I'm number 7 now, I hope I get mine by the end of this week! Please please please.

I know for a fact that the guy after me (the one that shipped 7/22) ordered an 8GB as he was right next to me in the store.

I feel sorry for the people who ordered Saturday and are still waiting! Must be 16GB blacks... which is what I ordered. :\

The authorization on my Am EX expired yesterday and they haven't yet submitted another - and no switch from B/O at all today -

hmmm, I hope that "Management Escalation Team Member" for online support didn't cancel my order....

Just a quick question about the backorder status for the phone. I have seen mine go from 1 to 0 and back and forth a few times.
Is this when the distibution center gets a shipment of my ordered model in, it goes to 0? Then if my order has not been fulfilled in that shipment, it goes back to 1 again?

Oh Nohz!

No ship on my DF, so I went to the Apple Store (which showed nothing available online) with my 3 kids (12, 5, 3). 3.5 hours later I'm home with 2 white 16GB iPhones (happy anniversary sweetie!) and I just found out that my 8GB shipped today, which was ordered on th 13th, and will arrive tomorrow.

:rolleyes::cool::p

Oh well, I can still use a third.

:0)
