I'm sure that AT&T never intended for their tracking system to be used in this manner. It was designed so that you could check your own order status, but some clever people figured out how the order numbers were written and now people have made tools to check orders for other customers. It wouldn't surprise me if they change the system in the future so that this isn't possible.

thats true, thats where the right to privacy comes into play
but for everyone else, the order status site is working for me

Looks like they are changing it to only allow lookup by cell phone or contact phone number. Doesn't seem to work for me though.

Ughhh there goes our ability to see where we are in line. Thanks AT&T. Maybe if you'd provide a better order status checker, people wouldn't need to code their own ways to use it.

I agree. How am I supposed to spend my time now?!

Well the old AT&T site is still working (and I wrote down the 5 numbers that were in front of me) so I am now #3 in line. I hope today is the day.

Way to piss already annoyed customers ATT.

Maybe if they provided information we wouldn't be looking for holes in their systems.

Damn. They blocked our access to checking others status. Right now im 9032, 9024, 9030, and 9031 are the only numbers in front of me that have not shipped yet. Hopefully soon. Sucks that I won't be able to tell if they do anymore.

Does any company provide more information than AT&T in this regard? Most give an estimated shipping time frame and then send the tracking number when it actually ships. I'm not sure what people expect to be different about this -- the iPhone is no different than any other product people order.

Your Debit/Credit Card online site will have the charges before the AT&T site updates.

I've ordered 2 phones and my first one 16 GB white, of course, got to the store about 8 hours after the web site said it shipped, but the bank knew about it the day before.

Bad? No, completely normal... It will always be "In progress" until it ships (unless, I assume some catastorphy happens and the order gets cancelled *shudders at the thought*) As far as the backorder number on the phone flipping between 1 and 0, it appears that when they receive a batch of phones at the ATT where(ismyphone)house, the backorder number goes to 0 on the phone, and after they ship them out, the backorders that didn't get filled from that shipment, go back to 1. It does seem that the closer your phone gets to shipping, the longer it spends with phone backorder = 0. Until the damn thing ships, the FRT will always be backorder = 1. Some wierd thing they do at ATT to keep freight and phones matched up... they probably want to make sure they don't accidentally ship a big box of air to an expectant customer...

I ordered 7/16 at ~6:30pm. My 8GB spent all day yesterday at 0, then went back to 1 in the evening. Now a few hours ago, it went back to 0. Nothing has been charged to my CC yet.

This blows. I was #18 last I checked but now I just have to wait it out old school style. lol

Ignore the FRT line unless you see a tracking number.

The Backorder 0-1 works like this.

When it is at 1 - the warehouse is out of phones. They are all backordered. When they get a shipment, it toggles to 0, because the warehouse has stock, but when the warehouse runs out of stock, you get returned to backorder.

It's frustrating, because you were never off of backorder status, but the warehouse temporarily was.

Now, Monday there was a long time before the backorder toggled back to 1, and there was a large shipment that day. Someone noted that it averaged about 2 phones per store nationwide, and I checked my local store with the scripts that used to work, and my local store (Mobile, AL) got 2 phones. So, I'm guessing that you can estimate the size of the shipment the warehouse got by how long the 0 stays in backorder status.

Your bank account will likely update before the web site, so when you see the charge hit your account, expect your phone the next day. You might get the tracking number late that day or on the morning of delivery. And the email saying it shipped arrived to my inbox after the phone had arrived in the store.

Ordered 7/14 8gb black, 6th on list, came in today

Y'all have been my therapy while waiting. I'd have lost my mind if AT & T had changed the online status site before my phone came in. Posting now for info purposes to those who have no way of knowing what's going.
I've been checking status sight morning & night & logging results since 7/14 1:30pm. Our branch didn't take pre-orders until 7/14. I was #6 on list & watched 30-40 orders add on. 4 before me and 10 after me all got their's before me at random times. But one common thread for me was that items showing as backordered after 10pm at night never shipped the next day. The ones that shipped the next day always showed as in stock the night before. Mine showed as in stock all day yesterday, whereas before it would be go back & forth in stock/backorder off & on in the day sometimes at night sometimes in day. Never a definite pattern except yesterday. As I said, it stayed in stock all day & sometime after 1am & before 3am it changed to shipped with fedex track #. Never checked credit card acct. to see what happens there. Don't know what other people were ordering either that got them early. Hang in there, study up on tutorials, get itunes set up & cleaned up, rearrange address book...anything to help get you through the day. GOOD LUCK!

The AT&T Status site is still showing giving me the option to check the status of phones via order numbers, so I can still check the status of orders before me manually. I am wondering if wheresmyiphone stopped working because AT&T blocked the wheresmyphone server. If this is the case, someone could download the original script and move it on to their own PHP server.

While the site was still working, I reviewed the shipping results from my store since Launch Day. The fastest time from order to shipping (OTS) was 6 days, the longest time was 9 days, and the average time was 8 days. (These numbers are including weekends, since I subtracted the order date from the ship date).

I ordered my phone on the 16th, and am approximately 64 in my local store's queue as of yesterday. There has been shipments to my store every weekday. Assuming AT&T's shipping patterns remain consistent, I am anticipating all of the 07/14th orders for my store will finish shipping by today, all of the orders on the 15th will finish shipping by tomorrow, and that my phone will ship on Friday. These are rough estimates based on the trend data provided by the wheresmyphone site before it went down. Like I said, in the entire queue history for my store since the 11th, not one phone has shipped later than 9 days.

I happen to know that my flight instructor is the 1st in the queue at my local store. So maybe I'll check with him tomorrow during my flight to see if my theory holds ;-)

I know the FRT line means nothing and will say 1 until the phone has shipped.
I had asked about how the 1-0-1-0-etc PHONE line works on page 21 and nobody answered.

Thank you very much for the info, it was quite helpful.
Much more so than the "OMG0RZ MY PHONE HAS SHIPPED/HASN'T SHIPPED YET!" and "I got mine today, keep the faith" posts.

The AT&T Status site is still showing giving me the option to check the status of phones via order numbers, so I can still check the status of orders before me manually. I am wondering if wheresmyiphone stopped working because AT&T blocked the wheresmyphone server.

Other sites/programs that use the order ID to get the status are not working either, so I think AT&T just blocked that entire method.

The option to check using the order ID was working earlier today but now AT&T was updated the page to show the wireless/home number options only. :(

There are only 3 people in front of me so I am hopeful for today, although my status is showing as backordered. Has anyone received their phones (specifically 16GB black) today?

The problem for me is that the order # was the only way to check it that worked. For some reason the phone number stuff kept coming back with an error. I tried again just now and it still just craps out on me. Maybe I should find the store phone number and try that.

Now we can not use http://www.wheresmydamniphone.com/queue.php to see the order line.

Some please develop a tool to look up with the phone number :)

Strange, I just found this site and checked it this morning, now its not working anymore a few hours later. I was 11th in line when i checked, so hopefully that means i'm close to getting an iphone. I noticed everyone that had ordered Sunday(7/13) or before had all had their phones shipped.

oh great now the online order status checker doesn't work for me, and the only AT&T store in Savannah doesn't pick up their phones. *sigh* where's my damn iPhone.

I liked being able to check the queue. :(

I was approx. No. 54 in line when I checked this morning. I suspect I'm well into next week before I get my black 16GB and am disappointed now that I can't follow it.

I don't think the queue checker is completely "blocked" because if I refresh the screen....sometimes random orders pop up with status. Not sure the logistics of why it's not working all the time...but it is working rarely.
