AT&T - iPhone 3G on Backorder for 5-7 Days.

A couple questions

Ok here is the thing I am a Verizon customer and am switching to AT&T(you guys know why) and have 2 8GB iphones on DF from the AT&T store nearest my house.
Last night I checked the nearest Apple store and they had them all in stock, me being a total dork sometimes was kinda like well its an hour and a half away and by the time I get there they will be out. So later around 3 I called the Apple store and asked if they had any in stock, he said yeah all of em so I asked him how long of a wait he said only an hour.
Me still being a dumbass today was just like well I can wait a little for my DF. I am/was until ATT changed the site 75th at my store and ordered them on the 18th. Needless to say, might have some more waiting to do.

So tonight I check the Apple availability and they have the one I want (2 8GB) in stock.

My questions:

1. Can the Apple store do my switch from Verizon and port my numbers?

2. You guys think I should go for it and hit the Apple store in the morning, and cancel my DF while I am there???

You guys hold my future... :p

**Yeah I did post this in the other thread for all those going back and forth, I am sorry but just wanting to get people's opinion on this.:eek:

I called ATT and asked if they could cancel the order if say i found one at an Apple store. they lady told me to call the store i bought it from, so i eventually got ahold of that store, then the lady there told me that she cant cancel the order until the phone comes in, so i would have to wait anyways.

:mad: this whole system they have is ****ed up! good thing they monopolized the iphone or i wouldnt be buying from them!

Don't cancel your order, the white might not arrive that much faster, i mean you've already waited this long and you're gonna have this phone for 2 years at least if not more, Once you get you'll be glad you waited for the black, trust me,
 
Have hope guys! My iPhone shipped today. 16GB black ordered on 7/13. I was #3 in the queue as of this morning.

My phone seems to be coming out of Tennessee rather than Texas. Hopefully I'll have it in my hands by tomorrow. When do AT&T usually call to let you know you can pick the phone up?

Hey guys just to give you a quick update.. AT&T called me at lunch time and told me my phone came in. So I will pick it up tomorrow morning.. Took about 5-6 business days to come in.. I ordered mine on July 15th and I ordered the 8gig. This hopefully will give you and idea of when you should be getting yours..

Woo...my 8GB ordered on the 15th shipped today and should be here tomorrow!

I'm in Atlanta and it shipped from Memphis.

I was 27th in the queue before AT&T eliminated that scripting trick.

I'm still patiently waiting, ordered on the same day, same model and yesterday I was also #3, hopefully that means I get some good news soon. I'm in Palm Beach, Fl.
 
At what time does the tracking website change to switch usually? I'm thinking mine is supposed to ship today or tomorrow.

I check around 7pm ET and it hadn't switched. I check around 10:30 ET and it had switched.

Yeah, I have a FedEx tracking number...but I had to check on the AT&T website. I still haven't received an e-mail from AT&T about it having shipped.

On previous days, some people went to bed without a status update and woke up next morning to find out it had shipped the previous day...don't fret :).

I was at the WWDC keynote and only now am I finally going to get my own. The wait sucked and I sold my previous iPhone so I never got the chance to play with the 2.0 firmware. I hope FedEx doesn't fubar anything :D.

Well the AT&T order status page updated at around 7pm PST for me (I had been refreshing all day :eek: ), when I checked the FedEx tracking site it showed that it had shipped at 5pm CST! So looks like there's a big lag between when it ships and when AT&T updates your info. I've heard this from others as well, regarding updates to the site, and emails to your account. I haven't received any email from AT&T.

That's good news. I ordered an 8 GB on the 16th so hopefully mine will ship out tomorrow. My order status isn't showing anything but I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm going out of town for the weekend but it'd be sweet if I could have it for my trip.

More good news! That means I'm (hopefully) just a couple of days away since I ordered an 8 GB on the 16th. Woohoo!

Getting closer for me(2 8GB ordered on 18th) I can almost feel it in my warm little hands now, the warm glow of the screen gently tucking me in at night, spooning all night long, and waking up next to it not even remembering this long wait :D:apple:
 
Now then, the posts about the 8GB models ordered on the 15th shipping today are giving me hope.
Hopefully I'll have mine Friday night, or maybe even tomorrow night :D
Then again, I ordered on the 16th at 6:30pm, so probably not tomorrow :(
 
when iphone comes in take a little flash drive

When I went to get my 8g black today that was ordered 7/14, I had to buy a flash drive to save my contacts on from my razr phone. If I'd known that, I'd have brought one from home. So, At & t get another $15 for that. But, had to have it to save my HUGE contacts folder to load later into itunes. HUGE HEADACHE! Take the time to make a separate iphone picture file so when you get ready you'll have all your favorites loaded to put as pictures for your contacts. Cool, how the phone edits pics.
 
hello this is my first post ever here

Hello everyone I ordered 2 16gb black iphones on 7/21 and when I called ATT today the person I spoke to told me i was #6 does anyone know what that means. I have been checking my order status and it shows as ordered only the FRT is on backorder. I'm sorry if this is a dumb question this is my first time ever buying am iphone actually i'm an :apple: virgin :p
 
any of you getting phones that were on backorder having reception problems? what are your week numbers (ie first five numbers of serial number?)
 
So, my 16GB Black shipped today, so it will be coming into the ATT store (Chico, Ca) tomorrow. (ordered 7/12)

I was #2 yesterday morning.. after 13 iPhone shipped, i became #1 (love that math) this morning.. And it did finally ship. No more refreshing the DF page...

Now, is it true that 3g docks are $50 @ an ATT stoe while they are $30 from Apple? Or is this just online? .... I had my 1st gen iPhone setup pretty sweet with my dock setup in my car for charging and audio out. Docks gone, and I don't really want to pay the extra $20..... Anyone who has seen or purchased one in a att store, please let me know.

Otherwise, good luck to all of you! AND, apparently they just enabled 3G in my city today, so that's what I call timing =)
