I'm a little bummed. My status also says backordered. I ordered a black 8GB at 11AM EST on Friday. Is it strange that some phones have already shipped for people who ordered later in the day? I suppose some warehouses receive phones faster than others?

I think it depends on what model you ordered too...the 8Gbs are getting fulfilled faster than the 16Gbs. There is higher demand for the 16s.
 
By doing the little "trick", I found out that I was 6th in line and 2 before me have already shipped. WOW. I am hoping to see change soon. I ordered the 16gig BLK
 
is the order status page not working for anyone else? It takes forever to load and then says the page doesnt exsist on at&t's website. I HAVE to see if my order shipped its killing me!!

same thing happened to me. the only way i got it to work again is when i switched to the Safari browser. Hope this helps. I know how you must feel.
 
FYI, I order one white and one black 16GB on Friday around 6pm and the white one changed to shipped about an hour ago with an expected delivery of tomorrow. The black one still shows as back ordered.
 
I didn't think this trick of moving down in order number to determine your place in line was working until I realized I AM FIRST! I thought as much since I was like 10th through the door, and I only saw 3 people leave with bags in their hands.

My status has not changed from Backordered EVER. Bummer. I don't think there is much 16GB Black stock out there! I have yet to confirm a DF receipt of a 16 GB Black phone.

Has anyone received confirmation of shipping for a 16GB Black phone?
 
So, I guess there were 30 people that were in line before me, after some people left after us being notified they were out of stock....6 have been shipped/cancelled, and it looks like i'm number 24 on the list now. Wonder how long this is gonna take
 
I am on back-order too. I wrote a small program to scrape the AT&T web site for order statuses to see just how well things are moving along:

Great idea. I did the same thing, except manually, staring at each number. The most interesting thing is that in a sequential series of 102 orders, the FIRST 16 have not shipped, from then on there are random pockets of shipping phones. Why? Maybe its the model people ordered? Did choosing expedited delivery make a difference.
Looking at the airbills, it looks like they're individually FedExing each and every one. WOW. Is that stupid or what. This was somehow more efficient than shipping more than the original 20 to my store? AT&T is paying FedEx big time. The other interesting thing is where the phones are coming from. I'm in NC. One phone shipped from Memphis TN, but all the rest are coming from Fort Worth Texas.

Here are the numbers

7/11 51 ordered, 12 have shipped. 11 from Fort Worth, 1 from Memphis
7/12 19 ordered, 0 shipped
7/13 13 ordered, 0 shipped
7/14 19 ordered, 0 shipped
Total: 102 ordered, 12 shipped

On the orders from 7/11. The first 16 have not shipped, but the 3rd and 4th from the last orders HAVE shipped. What gives?
 
Mine from ATT shipped today and will be here tomorrow. My other friends don't say back ordered but haven't shipped yet.

I tired both the online and over the phone status check and none of them were able to find my record even though I got that email about my iphone was backordered for 2 to 3 days.

Enter the zip code for the STORE YOU ORDERED from!!! Try that, not your zip code.

Make sure you enter the proper zip code for the ATT store. Check Google to make sure you have the right one. My city has about 4 different zips and it rejected all of them besides the correct one.

I'm incredibly frustrated. I've seen a handful of people who ordered 4-6 hours after me (I ordered at 12:30pm Friday), same model (8GB), and there's have already shipped, but mine hasn't. Still on backorder. I tried calling ATT yesterday, the lady forwareded me to the iPhone call center, I was on hold for 30 minutes, then I hung up because I had too much stuff to do. Ugh...:mad:

I just tried the trick everyone else is doing. I got about 40 or 50 numbers ahead of me and some had shipped but most haven't. I stopped trying to find the exact number because I got depressed.

Oh well, I'm not freaking out about it like a lot of you are in this thread. If the Apple stores calm down (and restock) I might cancel and get one from there.

No big deal.
 
white shipped, blacks delayed

Tracking says my 16g white phone will arrive in California tomorrow by FedEx from Ft. Worth. Going backwards from my order number, I see there are about 50 orders ahead of mine at my local store. All but a few still say "backorder." When I was at the store Friday, I saw the sales clerk's order list had only two or three white 16g phones on order compared to 20 or more black 8g and 16g. The clerk also said the black 16g was by far the biggest seller, even though she and I both thought the white version would sell more. It's possible that demand for the black 8 and 16g models has at least choked the distribution system and perhaps depleted the initial Ft. Worth warehouse stock. Another explanation could be that I set up my new account with a FAN number, possibly triggering expedited shipment.

How are all of you checking how far in line you are? I ordered my iPhone(16GB White) on Friday at around 3 PM Central, and my order status hasn't changed from backorder even once.
I want my freakin PHONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad:
 
Goes to the quality of people they hire, and that parents produce today.
I had a AT&T rep on the phone a couple of weeks ago and she kept reading number wrong. She'd reverse them, drop one out of a 2-3 place number, or mispronounce them.
It was sad. At first I figured she was new and nervous but the longer it went on the more I wondered.


I had one today who answered and when i was reading him my order numbers i was using Phoenetic Alphabet jsut to make it easier

And he said 'Can you just read the letters? I dont know what you are trying to say'
 
How are all of you checking how far in line you are?

On the AT&T "Order Status" page where you enter your order number and shipping ZIP code, enter a lower order number and your same shipping ZIP code. Orders from individual stores appear to be grouped together. Keep entering lower numbers and the ZIP code and you will eventually get an "order not found" message when another store's batch of orders begins.
