Still Hope

Still hope everyone. I have that dreaded confirm number that starts with 140Placed my order 6 am central on 10/07, received confrim email that day but did not show up on order search until 10/10. Order said I hadn't placed order until 10/10. Was showing backordered until late yesterday afternoon when it went to 0 backordered and pending shipment. Had given up hope, figuring I was on 14-28 day list. Just checked and got a tracking number from UPS overnight shipping. Keep the faith, they are still shipping.:D
 
Just got my order forgot to mention I didnt have to sign for the order & I still have no charge for my order. I could cancel my CC and say I never got the order LOL.

Nah J/K Im honest person guess I will go activate :D
 
Preordered in-store on 10/7 at noon PST (3pm EST). Rec'd confirmation email 2 hours later. Still on backorder as of noon on 10/14.

Went back in to that same AT&T store to see if I could cxl my preorder and pick up one of the many phones they had in stock. Store manager told me that "their system would not allow them to cancel 'pending' orders." Moreover, they told me that restoring eligibility for an upgrade takes up to 72 hours. Despite me telling them that numerous people (on this forum) were able to successfully cancel their preorders, the only option they gave me was to pay full retail price for a phone and then bring in the other phone when it arrived for a price adjustment.

Guess I'll just keep waiting...
 
The other interesting thing is that the order status page keeps saying "Request Entity Too Large" and won't load. So it seems like the system is definitely overloaded. After several minutes of getting that page is when my Qty Back-Ordered finally showed 0.
 
Holysh*tballs, my status just went from backordered to processing too!

ok so maybe I don't need to go to target...

Dang it, after doing the preorder, now AT&T says the phone is back ordered and the new date is next Fri the 21st.... The AT&T guy says, never pre-order, go the store, had a few choice words for that suggestion... Can always go to store and cancel the order I guess, a little frustrating and failure in my book. I preordered last sat Oct 8th around 3:00 pm CST...:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
 
So close, they told me they had some in stock and that they could do an order reveral. I got all excited. Then he said they only had the 32GB white model. :(

Call 1800331-0500 Cust. SVC. I had mine cancelled in minutes and my upgrade restored. Nothing to it. Heading to the store. Not waiting a month for anyone... :D
 
I have my white 64gb 4s! .... but not from my day one preorder. I went to the store, they had plenty of stock. I explained my situation and they did something interesting for me: They sold me a phone at full price, and when I get the preorder (that can't be cancelled) I take it back to the store and they will refund it, and what I paid on the in-store purchase, down to the normal subsidized price. They have an actual procedure in place to do this, but it did take a bit for them to look up information about it and get it done. So, I am basically trading them my future shipment for an instock one.

Let me add that I had the opportunity to deal with people who are OBVIOUSLY Att's best employees!


Thank you so much for posting this. We are in the same boat with a phone I preordered for my wife on 10/7. First there was the screwup with fraud alert at chase and now AT&T said that the earliest it will ship is next Friday.

So my wife called the local mall & they have several phones left and were willing to perform the sale & (future) refund as you described above!!

Basically the preorders are a train wreck. Congrats to those of you who were able to get yours today and to those of you with shipping notifications!
 
I just wish Sprint didn't suck in my area, because despite being with AT&T for 7 years with 3+ lines, I'd be there in a second.

HA! I feel the same way!!! I just emailed AT&T wireless support with how I feel:
"I am totally disgusted right now as I pre ordered the iPhone 4S which I am being told I wont receive until mid-November. The stores have many in stock but wont cancel my backorder and allow me to order one in stock. This is ridiculous AT&T. This is the first time I tried to get a phone on/by launch day. I have learned that I cannot trust AT&T. If I do not switch to Sprint (which I am close to doing), I will never order anything from AT&T again."

it made me feel a little better venting but the first person I see playing around with their 4S while I still have my 3GS is going to make me angry :mad: all over again...
 
Well, any shipping carrier will try a few times, and after the first time you can usually call them to either hold it at their facility for you to pick it up, or even possibly change the ship-to to a different address, for instance your work address. Well, UPS will do this, not too sure about FedEx but I would think it's the same deal. We shall see, right? I'm in exactly the same boat man. :(

I realize that, but we'll be gone all week, out of state. If we're lucky we might get them to hold it if we can verify that it's been attempted delivery while we're gone, but there's varying accounts of what AT&T has instructed FedEx to do - some say no holds or pre-signs, others have been able to accomplish it. All just very frustrating, if the website was saying anything other than Oct 14 delivery, I would never have ordered it. If the CSR who fixed the billing problem tuesday night hadn't said "YEs it will be there on the 14th" I'd have made changes to the arrangements then and there.

I just feel mostly powerless in the whole matter, and I hate feeling that way...
 
Just wanted to chime in and let you know that I was able to have ATT cancel my 'backordered' 21-28 day phone order and reinstate my eligibility so I could pick up a phone today in store.

They call it a 'order reversal', so if anyone is frustrated because they are on backorder, but stock is in store, you can definitely go this route.

I actually had them do this twice, the first time they did it to correct an inadvertently canceled pre-order, and then today they did it to allow me to purchase in store.

I actually got my in-store purchase BEFORE my preorder. The irony!

I did that. Cancelled and just walked out of the store with three new 32GB iPhones.

Nice, I'm currently on the phone so will give that number a try if this one goes nowhere.

I asked for an order reversal and they said that my order information was already sent to the warehouse and that they can't cancel it and that I should just wait. Asked to speak to a supervisor/manager and they have me on hold at the moment.

I called the Apple store at Tyson's Corner in VA and they said they have walk-in stock still available. Will suck if this takes awhile and people start getting off work and they run out lol.

Like some of you others, no way in heck I'm gonna sit and wait for 2-3 weeks for a "pre-order" when I can drive like 10-15 minutes and walk out of the store with one in hand. Upgrading from a dinky Sony Ericsson Walkman lol... had it for at least 3 years now.
 
AT&T Status Changed...

Just a quick update. My AT&T order status just changed from Backordered to Processing. Unfortunately I'm not home so I can't see if I just magically got one delivered or not but at least that is a change in something. AT&T has a black eye on this one in my book!

I ordered 10/7 @6:30am MST. My Premier Order Status hasn't changed but if I log into my wireless account and check orders, that is where is now reads processing.

Date and time of you placing your pre-order?

These guys keep putting me on hold, coming back every couple minutes and asking me to hold longer. Something about still waiting for the supervisor to open up a ticket escalation or some such.

I'm tempted to just hang up and try the other number...

Stores have tons in stock!!!!! All sizes and colors... I'm a sucker in-store preorderer so we'll see how this goes, I'm in line now

FYI - I had success, initial push back about not allowed to cancel pre-orders but after explaining that the main office is not holding to that policy any longer since AT&T diverted all the pre-order stock to the stores and there are so many available for walk-in while most pre-order customers are stuck without a phone until next month some time.

They were able to go and validate that my phone was on backorder and give me a stock phone... so I'm all set... Lesson learned - never pre-order from AT&T.

Good luck everyone else, this will work if you don't accept no as an answer on the no cancellation policy. Also if you order status would have moved to anything but backordered they for real could not do anything for you.

I just did the same thing at feedback@att.net (dunno if anything will happen)
 
So just to be clear, ordering a week in advance doesn't help me anymore than someone that just walks into a store today and tries to buy one. In fact i'm in worse shape because they can check wherever and pick one up if they have any stock. :mad:
