It is not just the in store people that are still waiting for their iPhones. I ordered 8am CST on 10/7 and I have been "backordered" until just a couple hours ago when it went to processing no tracking info yet. But happy to just hear so change.
 
I don't understand why, after 4 iPhone releases, why people still go to the AT&T store to order an iphone. Do they not have a computer/Internet? We complain all day and night about how crap AT&T is and we still go back to them and order through an independant store with no clue about what's going on.

Let's learn our lesson for next time - order (a) online with AT&T OR (b) onblne through Apple.

dont be a smartass ok? There are several reasons why people HAVE to go the at&t store.
 
I'm just pissed at AT&T for playing these games, why offer a preorder if they knew this was gonna happen? I went in my local AT&T corporate store was the first to preorder @ 9am opening and been on back order since... I called every store including the one I purchased from to see if I can cancel and buy in store cuz they all have plenty in stock of 32 and 64 gig but none will allow me to cancel my preorder, this is nuts!


Exactly! The phone is IN the store, but I can't have it! No fair. Next time I wait in line or order from Apple! AT&T 'pre-orders' suck!

I understand, but so far it seems like not a single person who did an in store preorder will get it from AT&T
 
So, I cancelled my order over the phone while at the AT&T store. Walked out of there with a black 32GB iPhone 4S. I'm beyond excited right now :D :D :D
 
Well, my backorder just shipped. Have it tomorrow.

So those with Premier orders on backorder from 10/7, I think they're shipping now. Still doesn't make it right, but hopefully you'll get your's tomorrow.

major disappointment!!!!

FEDEX status showed status as "delivered" since 12:45pm today, my building super is the signer for the package. Barely made it home - only to find out that he does not have my package!!! WTF!!! I came home to recheck the status and it is "delivered", now the super's door is closed. I am not sure what to do. Also FEDEX guy did not leave any notice, that is also very strange. How big is the package and is there a way for anybody to know there is an IPHONE inside. Btw, I live in the building for more than 9 years and super always signs for all my packages, I never had any problems. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

I've tried that and CS reps say not possible " my name is assigned to an iPhone" therefor it's not possible? Can take 14-21 days.

Yup, tracking says tomorrow 10/15 by Noon, picked up in Fort Worth, TX. Meanwhile, I'm sure the AT&T store down the street has plenty of Wht 64GBs

good news. mine has finally been taken off of backorder, but no shipping info yet. how long did it take for you to get shipping info after it switched to processing from backordered?

I am not sure if you have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, but I do. When I did attempt to do the upgrade online, but through ATT's site and Apple's site, both tried to bump me down to a 200mb data plan to complete the transaction. Not gonna happen. I went to the store to process my pre-order because this is the only way to assure that I retain my unlimited data with a minimum of fuss... However it looks like the pre-order in stores were handled as direct fullfillments and not like all the other pre-orders. ATT's screwy system is causing so much anxiety for so many people it is not even funny... I know it's just a phone, but it is that person's phone and they want/need it for whatever their reason... Noone else has to agree with this, but I certainly aint going to judge someone else who is more anxious than I.

Same thing at the Beverly Hills AT&T. Manager said they got 3 emails from corporate that they are not allowed to cancel pre-orders. I must wait for it to be shipped even though they have units available. (no 16GBs). I'm pissed. What's the point of placing a pre-order if I have to wait 14-21 days? That's F'ed up.
 
I just read these stories about going to AT&T retail and canceling order. Well, I wasn't as lucky. Did the same thing, said i spoke to a rep (macrumors forums) and said there was now a way to cancel my order since its still "pending". The first employee basically flat out said "we can't cancel. you were misinformed" then I asked for the manager. Very nice, looked up my order, saw I ordered morning of the 7th and explained how before they even opened at 10am that day, New York sucked up all the preorders and they were automatically placed in 14-21 days (which is what I was told when I ordered).
I explained the "rep" from AT&T who said I can cancel. She said, again, there was absolutely no way they can cancel an order thats been placed. Then printed out my receipt again and showed me also that it says orders cannot be canceled and replaced with in-store inventory.

So end of story, I tried a lot to do this, but they just wouldn't budge and were "absolutely sure" there was no way to cancel. Now I still am phone less without even a tracking number. Last time I ever preorder from them. OH..and they had a 64GB white in stock, which is what i ordered. awesome.

AT&T is holding most of those ordesr and won't release them until next friday. You can get the order cancelled and purchase a phone today. It can be done. I did it. The store that you pre-ordered from will have to cancel the original order. Then they can do a reverse-updgrade and purchase the new phone. You may have to speak with a manager but it can happen if you push them. Good Luck. :apple:

Still on backorder...no hope for me before November

Well I tried two different AT&T stores (one of which I placed the order with on the 7th). Neither would cancel my pre order. Both had many blk 64GB still in stock at the store. I am royally upset :mad:. So much so I am switching to Sprint. :eek:

The Sprint rep I spoke to said their store is all out but his manager is running to another store to get me 2 blk 64GB iPhones. What is even better is I am getting $180 credit for my 3GS and $215 for my daughter's 4!:p Wow! plus our monthly fee is going to be lower...:)

Goodbye AT&T...Hello Sprint!
 
Well, this will be my final update on my situation here.

My wife got a call back from the CSRs in PA who "fixed" our billing issue.

Earlier tonight they told us 7-14 days. When they called back, they said 21-28. For a 5:00 AM Eastern 10/7 pre-order. Because THEIR system screwed up.

We finally got them to just cancel it outright, and while she couldn't reset eligibility immediately, she did say that she would put a note on the account to that it can be over ridden in the store.

Of course, at THIS point, no stores have 16 GB left locally, and even if they did, they are closing in twenty minutes anyway... I think tomorrow morning we're going in search of a 32 GB (i'd played with the idea of getting one myself anyway, so we'll just switch the sims).

I seriously can't believe this. It's been the absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. If it weren't for the fact that we need it for our trip next week, I'd wait out the eligibilty reset system wide, and go to Apple, or Best Buy, or Target, or anywhere else in the universe that sells iPhones besides going back to AT&T. And if it weren't for the fact that I'm already locked in to a new contract from my Apple order, I'd be heading back to Verizon.
 
Hopefully no one else experienced this:

My friend told me that UPS dropped off his phone and another package on his porch without knocking, ringing his bell or requiring a signature.
He was home.
Refreshed his tracking on his computer, came downstairs to get it . . .

Gone.


Someone stole it off his porch in the 20 minutes between delivery and him coming downstairs.

Ouch.

I'm actually glad Apple preorders ship with signature required.
 
AT&T store finally cancelled my pre-order. apologized profusely for turning me away earlier and gave me $25 credit. got my 4S finally!
 
Not sure if losing the ability to access data and talk at the same time is worth it. That, and AT&T's network speed.
