Try a different store. I did just this earlier today and got the rep to cancel the preorder over the phone with ATT just gotta let them know its unshipped, you preordered were told a delivery date of today, its not here so please do a reverse upgrade/cancel and purchase in store

If some stores cant do this its because they dont know they can. They simply cannot do it IN STORE, but a rep in the store can call for you and get it done.

Or just call yourself and demand it to be cancelled it was not fulfilled in time and you want to get it in store right now. Far as I can tell ATT have loooads of stock available
 
AT&T Liars!!

Everyone read this i ordered online on 10/7 6am est and did not get my phone today. I called at&t and complained for 2hrs about their horrible service and i want to cancel my order. They kept telling me no, but i would not give up. After the two hours the manager got on the phone and cancelled my order and gave me my upgrade back. I went to my local apple store and picked up a 16gb white iphone in 5 minutes and im writing this from the store. Do not believe att and their terms and conditions if you try hard enough you can cancel and get it in store like i did. Hope this helps

THey're lying. My status stated backordered and they told me that as long as the status hadn't updated , they could do it. I have a Black 64gb 4S that says "Yes They Can!!!"

Also the customer service rep I spoke to yesterday at 611 also stated that I could cancel but couldn't guarantee that my upgrade date would roll back. Thats where the Reverse-Upgrade came in.

THe store cancelled my order today about 2:00pm.
 
If you cancel your pre-order and go get one at the store, do you have to pay the full msrp price or the contract price? and does at&t refund your money right away?
 
FEDEX status showed status as "delivered" since 12:45pm today, my building super is the signer for the package. Barely made it home - only to find out that he does not have my package!!! WTF!!! I came home to recheck the status and it is "delivered", now the super's door is closed. I am not sure what to do. Also FEDEX guy did not leave any notice, that is also very strange. How big is the package and is there a way for anybody to know there is an IPHONE inside. Btw, I live in the building for more than 9 years and super always signs for all my packages, I never had any problems. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

Yapeeeee!! My super just brought me mine iphone. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
 
GUYS LISTEN UP TO THOSE IN BACKORDER HELL.

First...you will not be "getting lucky" you will be waiting the provided times of 14-21, or 21-28 days (barring some sort of company wide change)

Second, YOU CAN CANCEL YOUR PREORDER. Here is my story.

I ordered in-store, before the "cut off" and i have been in backorder hell ever since. I saw the stories of people cancelling their pre-orders since the stores have left over iphones! (my store had a lot of 64gbs and some 32gb left). So I called my store and asked him about cancelling my preorder. The store manager replied "you can't sir you have to wait for your preorder" I said, F this crap, then i hanged up with him and called the main 800 line. The CSR said, "yes sir you CAN cancel your preorder, but since you pre-ordered in store, you would have to go there and cancel it" I said, the manager just told me I couldn't. He said "That manager is completely wrong"

I then got off the phone with him, and called back the manager, only to talk to one of his workerbees. The guy checked with the manager and said "My manager said, you would have to call the main line" I was like wtf "i just got off the main line and he told me I would HAVE to go In store to do it" The guy put the manager on the phone.

The manager tried to give me the run around again, but I wouldn't budge. I kept saying he could cancel it, as people across the forums are too.

He finally said "ok come in the store and we will see what we can do"

I went down there only to not see the manager for 10-20 minutes. He finally came out the back with screen shots of NEW PROCEDURES of cancelling pre-orders. I heard him say, yea these are new procedures I got from the store in Atlanta, and valdosta.

Apparently these procedures are so new that many stores don't know about them unless they go out to WHEREVER they get there info, and see it.

SO TO THOSE WHO KEEP GETTING "YOU CAN'T CANCEL"

just went to the store that i pre-ordered from today said that I had to wait another 1-3 weeks. I told them that the lady that set up my pre-order said I would receive it today. Unluckily, I did NOT get my phone. They had about 50 in stock when I went there and asked if I can cancel my pre-orders and buy them, they said NO I cannot cancel my pre-orders because I would not be guaranteed a phone when I saw at least 10 people walk away with them. I am completely pissed, threw a fit inside the store and they called security. I cannot believe that this happened. Screw that ATT store I went to. They are all untrained workers who just play around and don't help any customers until the customers approach THEM. Highly unprofessional. lesson learned, camping outside is way better than pre-ordering, IMO

NO. If you originally could order at the Upgrade price, you can buy it for that price in the store.
 
Yes, it's way back early in this thread. You go to ups tracking, tracking by reference, use wireless number as reference number, fill in zip, and voila!

Of course, if your device was intended for fedex, this will obviously not work.

UPS says they have a package for me, but no tracking info. This is the first time I tried "Mail Innovations" and the first time it worked. At least now I know it is with UPS. I appreciate your response, thanks!
 
We finally got them to just cancel it outright, and while she couldn't reset eligibility immediately, she did say that she would put a note on the account to that it can be over ridden in the store.

Hate doing this, but my wife just corrected me so I have to correct it here.

They didn't actually cancel it. They still say they can't. So when it comes in 3-4 weeks, we have to send it back or take it in to an AT&T store for a refund if we get one locally in the meantime.

This is UNBELIEVABLE.
 
i just got a call from at&t customer service. they said they apologize for the delay and may not get it until monday. they also gave me a $50 credit on next month's bill as an apology. i'm a little less angry now. I'm not sure if it's because i sent an angry email to feedback@att.net earlier this morning or what. anybody else get a call???

Yeah they called me too, but they didn't offer me anything. Just lame apologies.
 
In store pre-order just cancelled

Hey guys,

So Ive been watching the forum this whole time and pissed just like everyone else because I ordered in store and was also being told 2-3 weeks. Last night I went to the store an they said I could not cancel so this afternoon I went to a store by my job and the system would not let them cancel another stores order but they said as long as it didn't ship it could be done and to tell that to the store I ordered from. So I just went in and asked of they had any left and once the girl had the phone in her hand for me I asked to cancel the pre-orderthat I knew it could be done because another corporate store was going to do it and at that point she looked and said ok after speaking to a manger. So it can be done. Just tell them you know it can be done.
 
good news. mine has finally been taken off of backorder, but no shipping info yet. how long did it take for you to get shipping info after it switched to processing from backordered?

I really don't know. I checked at about 1:30 (CT) this afternoon and it was still backordered, got really busy at work, didn't check until 4:30 and thats when it had a shipping number. It was already picked-up by 5:00. I still haven't received an email though, so keep an eye on the order page.

The sales rep didn't seem to want to help me, so I asked for the store manager. The manager went above and beyond. He canceled my pre-order and personally went in back and pulled a 64GB Black iPhone 4S. He then took it to the UPS Store right across the street and overnighted it to me. As an added bonus, he gave me AppleCare+ for free and credited my account $50. He emailed me the tracking number and the phone is on its way.

My order was placed at the retail store in Orland Park, IL through my Small Business account representative at 10:00am CST on the 7th. I went this route because I am now living in Phoenix and didn't want to worry about messing with the online ordering system. She placed the order in-store for me and assured me that shipping to Phoenix wouldn't be a problem. Apparently it was, as my order sat on "backordered" all week and I had numerous reps tell me that I would have to wait 3-4 weeks.

I am SO glad this fiasco is almost over.

If it hasn't shipped they haven't charged you, only pinged your acct for funds.

Yes, you can purchase at the subsidized rate as long as you confirm with the rep that they reversed your order.

I encourage you to do this... It worked for me. I have my wife's new 32GB White 4S charging waiting for her.

If it was me on anyother day, my luck would be that as soon as I walked in to the store monday and the manager said no, so I then call customer service, the pre-order will all of a sudden magically say shipped and then they can't do it in store... They will make you wait more...

I just went to the At&T W.LA store in los angeles to do that and they said they would not. I even talked to the manager, and I asked very calmly and nicely, too. eff at&t in the a$$. I'm done with them. I've been on 'in progress' since last saturday. Ordered a 16gb black on friday at 10:30am online and have been stuck in backordered status ever since.

You didn't do what I did. I called ATT first and then went to store.

Preordered in-store on 10/7 at noon PST (3pm EST). Rec'd confirmation email 2 hours later. Still on backorder as of noon on 10/14.

Went back in to that same AT&T store to see if I could cxl my preorder and pick up one of the many phones they had in stock. Store manager told me that "their system would not allow them to cancel 'pending' orders." Moreover, they told me that restoring eligibility for an upgrade takes up to 72 hours. Despite me telling them that numerous people (on this forum) were able to successfully cancel their preorders, the only option they gave me was to pay full retail price for a phone and then bring in the other phone when it arrived for a price adjustment.

Guess I'll just keep waiting...

try canceling via phone before going to store. Preferably call from store and keep both reps available until their screens both show same information re: eligibility reset. Whole process should take no more than 10 minutes.

I ordered a Black 64 GB in-store at 5pm central on the 7th. It's still on backorder and Reps tell me they have no idea when it will ship, only that I just missed the cut-off.

The AT&T store closest to me still has a few Black 64GB iPhones left, and I'm debating calling up and getting them to cancel my order so I can pick one up in-store. Has anyone had luck with this? Was it worth it or too much of a headache? I don't want to find out I have to wait a day before I can purchase again or something and then get totally screwed when they run out of phones and I no longer have an order.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
