Hi, all.

I preordered at 10 AM on 10/8 (16 gb white of course). I am still getting this message when I check my order status.

"OS001: We apologize for the inconvenience. We cannot complete your request at this time. Please wait at least 24 hrs from placing your order, before checking the status of your order online. If the problem persists, please call us at 1-888-333-6651 for further assistance. NOTE: An email may have been sent to your email address on file. Please check your email which may have additional information about your order."

When I call, they tell me it's backordered. So why won't it just say that? And anyone have any idea what kind of timeline I'm looking at?

Well I grossly underestimated AT&T. I called the retail store that placed my order and told them I was still backordered. The sales rep didn't seem to want to help me, so I asked for the store manager. The manager went above and beyond. He canceled my pre-order and personally went in back and pulled a 64GB Black iPhone 4S. He then took it to the UPS Store right across the street and overnighted it to me. As an added bonus, he gave me AppleCare+ for free and credited my account $50. He emailed me the tracking number and the phone is on its way.

My order was placed at the retail store in Orland Park, IL through my Small Business account representative at 10:00am CST on the 7th. I went this route because I am now living in Phoenix and didn't want to worry about messing with the online ordering system. She placed the order in-store for me and assured me that shipping to Phoenix wouldn't be a problem. Apparently it was, as my order sat on "backordered" all week and I had numerous reps tell me that I would have to wait 3-4 weeks.

I am SO glad this fiasco is almost over.

Above is my story. UPS just delivered my phone. Not that this hasn't been fun, but I am officially done with this thread. Good luck to all those still waiting for a phone.

Went in store to cancel my in-sotre pre-order. Same BS of "can't cancel pending orders" called the 1-800 from right there in the store and they said they can't cancel orders placed in store. This is a whole big mess. I'm never pre-ordering from AT&T again, i've learned my lesson either pre-order directly from Apple or go on launch day.

And i was going to bump my purchase up to a 64GB model too since they were out of the 32gb, i guess they really don't want my money or care about customer service.

Yep, me too. Still "backordered" here

Yeah, me too. But I'm going to just buy in store. Hopefully I'll have it by the end of the day.

A bit of a side note btw, the AT&T store closest to my house only got 15 phones. I almost flipped when I found out. Come on AT&T, you know damn well that that's not enough..

You see all these people including myself complaining about being backordered on our order status since the 7th? You're BEHIND us in this "line". Sorry =\

Don't worry though, I'll be stepping out of line soon so you won't have to worry about it anymore. Damn AT&T

For all those who were able to cancel your online orders at the ATT stores, you are really lucky!

Went out this morning bright n early to 2 different ATT stores.

First one said I could cancel at the store, but they were completely out of phones.

Second one still had 32gb + 64gb but would NOT let me cancel the online preorder.. tried to tell the manager that I was told I could, and that other stores were doing it too.. but they flat out said NO. I told them to check, and they said no it is the corporate policy that they cannot cancel.

I am beyond disappointed right now.:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Oh, and it is my birthday today. Happy freaking birthday indeed. ATT you completely ruined my special day!

Friendly stores in NYC?

Has anyone had luck with a store manager in NYC? The store on Broadway on the upper west side has plenty of stock but the manager is adamant about not being able to cancel the online (or possibly phone - don't ask...) order. I'd love to hear about it if anyone has had a more successful experience in or around the city.

Thanks!

If they try and pull this crap with me, I'll just get loud. Bring up some key points here.

It doesn't make sense for them to not let YOU cancel a pre order that YOU set. You can't stop them from taking your money now? What if you just didn't want the damn phone anymore? Is it right for the company to just say "Oh, too bad. You're getting it anyway." That's completely BS.

Other stores all over the place are doing it. If anything, go into all the AT&T stores you can find and just cancel it in one of those if they let you, then put your troll face on and go back to the store that said no and buy the phone from them.

Bring up the fact that other stores are doing it. Ask them to call around to all the stores in the neighboring districts and see if any of them are doing it. I guarantee you that one of them is at least. (Also. Someone stated earlier that the process to cancel pre orders is a new one, and some stores might not know how, you can bring this up as well. A fellow member on here was told this by a manager at his store.)

And if they still don't budge, ask to speak to a manager, and tell them that you will switch to another carrier if you're going to get treated like crap. You don't pay a monthly bill, pay 300 dollars for a PRE order, and stick with a company if they are going to lie to your face and treat us iPhone users like stupid idiots who don't know anything about simple customer service.

This topic really pisses me off. They CAN do this, some stores just don't want to go through the trouble. Lazy bastards..

EDIT:Happy birthday, hope you can get your phone. I still haven't gotten mine either, but hopefully today I can go get it. Best of luck to the both of us!

Last note or PreOrder

What a nasty exp after "pre-ordering" last sat... FInally called up and canceled my AT&T order I did over the phone and now have my 2 iPhones ( me and my wife) in hand after visiting the local AT&T store. Will NEVER PreOrder with AT&T again.... Now I can start enjoying this experience...

I should also note the store here in MN said they could not cancel the order so I did it myself on the phone. They also said that yesterday they had a corporate mandate to NOT cancel preorders done in their store no matter what, but today they could....

Boo AT&T, indeed!

Happy Birthday, bunnyhop... We'll get there eventually!

Who are you able to call to cancel? They're refusing to cancel our order by phone (not surprising, I was mostly hoping to get someone who would tell the recalcitrant manager at the Broadway store to suck it up), so if you were able to call to cancel, I'd love to know who to call - there are so many different contacts and such a cluster**** of poor information...

So I originally made my order thru AT&T phone sales, maybe that is why I was able to call up and cancel.... 800.331..0500

Hmm, very possible, thanks. I'm in the sort of peculiar position of not being sure if the order they are attempting to cancel is an internet order or a phone order. I pre-ordered at 1am Pacific, right when AT&T's site came up (and am still kicking myself for not sticking with Apple a little longer that night) and got confirmation, but then they needed to reauthorize the card, they claimed to have some problem with it (though the hold for the funds showed up JUST fine) and when we called Saturday to sort that out, they seem to have cancelled the first order and, over the phone, placed a new order, ON SATURDAY (oh yay...) The first one still shows up, shows pending, but shows a credit card error, and the second one, of course, being a Saturday order, is stuck in backorderland. We've been told 21-28 days by the phone reps. And of course, the ever popular NO by the store manager.

THANK YOU!! :D
Thanks SIMSARAH too for the birthday wish :D
You guys gave me my first smile of the day!

Yes, I DID put on a troll face + attitude + argued with them, but it did not work. I never yell at people or give them an attitude.. this is a first! I guess the ATT frustration REALLY got to me.
I never had to jump thru so many hoops to get a cellphone before..

I can totally relate to everyone here who is frustrated with this situation. I hope everyone that has complained in this forum will be get their :apple: really soon.

21-28 days

Sherman oaks & Encino, CA

Went to the stores today to try to cancel my pre-order. The Sherman Oaks store only had 32GB whites and the Encino Store only had 64GB models. Encino guy told me they could cancel my pre-order, but I have ordered a 16GB & 32GB, so even though they would do it, I didn't want to pay $300 more for the 64GB models.

He did say that if I pre-ordered it on the first day 10/7 then most likely I will receive it this next week. Oh, well guess I got screwed by the pre-order process.

I sure hope all this fiasco gets attention in the real media so AT&T will get some mud on their faces for putting us all through this.

My neighbor told me that his cousin works at att brick/mortor, and they were told by Apple this morning that all att 2-3 weeks deliveries are now pushed back to 4-6 weeks!

You in store pre-order people are screwed, (might as well wait for the 5 in the spring)

My story

Ok...I pre-ordered 10/7, in store, about 4:30 pst. Checking status online and it's still back-ordered. Went to the store this morning and they had 1 blk 32Gb left...I was even on the counter cause they brought it out for the lady in front of me but she wanted a 64gb. Told the same guy that sold me the phone that I wanted to cancel my pre-order. I said he can't. I replied that I wanted to see the manager. The manager came out, looked my order up and said it was in the "final stages". I told it since it has not shipped and still shows backorder that I wanted to cancel. His replied that he could not cancel it. I requested to talk to his boss...of course he was not availiable.

My next step was to call the CSR via 611...they couldn't help cause i made the order in the store. She even called the local store who said they had been instructed not to cancel orders. She refered me to the premier store line...they were no help at all. I called 611 again and the rep put me on hold while she checked on everything. When she came back the call dropped (imagine that with AT&T). So I called back...after much time on hold I got a 3rd rep. She looked at me account and it now shows that my order is canceled and my upgrade elegibility has been restored. :D Don't know what happened but I think my treats to move to Sprint were heard.

Now I am on the way to the Apple store since they have plenty in stock. It's better for me to go there anyway because here in Nevada the carrier stores charge tax on the entire value. So a $299 phone cost me $60 in tax. Unacceptable.

Thanks fellow iPhone'rs for all the good info!

My dad pre-ordered 4 for each member of my family at 7am central on the 7th. For some reason we received 3 of them yesterday but mine was still processing at AT&T. I got a call from AT&T a little later yesterday saying that there was a delay on mine and that they were giving me $50 of credit towards the bill. Well I got it about 10am today and they upgraded the shipping to overnight priority saturday delivery. So basically I waited a day for my iPhone and got $50 off, I love Apple/AT&T.... I'm about to open it now :)

You think I'll get 3 phones for the price of 1?

Hey guys, I got a quick question and want to get your opinion on my pre-order and why I'm not overly freaking out that I haven't gotten my phone yet.

I went into my local AT&T store, told them I wanted to order the new 4s and the lady who helped me said she would help me and started typing on the computer. She looked up from her computer a moment later and said "ok, your 16GB phone is ordered"

I apologized and told her that I wanted the bigger version of the phone and she apologized as well and I walked away to look at the cases for a minute while she fixed her error. When I came back she said she had the 32GB model ordered and I'm all set. I looked at her a little confused and said I thought the bigger model was the 64GB. Her eyes went big and she got a smile on her face (I'm sure bigger commission) and said she would fix that in 2 seconds.

So..I plunked down my $400 on 10/7 and she told me to expect 14 days or so before its available. On Saturday, 10/8 I woke up and logged onto the AT&T order status page to make sure that she ordered me the right phone b/c of all the issues she had. Here's the thing: I see a pending shipment for a 16GB; 32GB AND a 64GB model.

All 3 phones are still on the order status page as pending shipment. Do you guys think that I'll get all 3 phones delivered or will they catch the error and only deliver one?

Thoughts?

Changed iPhone 4S from White to Black & from 32GB to 64GB

Not only did AT&T deliver my iPhone on time via UPS yesterday afternoon I was then able to this morning at 10am upgrade from my iPhone 4S 32GB from White to black to the 64G! This was at the local AT&T store in Silverdale, WA
I think AT&T totally ROCK!!!

Above is my story. UPS just delivered my phone. Not that this hasn't been fun, but I am officially done with this thread. Good luck to all those still waiting for a phone.

i have my iphone 4s too man, and i said i was officially done with the thread, but for some strange reason i keep coming back...i guess out of habit.

and i really feel bad for those still in backorder hell....

Simply to put some positive to the negative. AT&T are a good company & also the speeds are twice as fast on the new iPhone 4S on att&T as opposed to the "other" networks, that is a fact

would love to share my pre order cancellation story but it end with me being very frustrated and haveing to wait for my phone.

i order from 611 and keep getting very mixed stories.

on a more depressing not i had 32g White in my hand, and was then told sorry no dice.

Conclusion of the saga for my wife's phone.

At the last update, I said Premier couldn't cancel, but did reset her upgrade eligibilty. I was concerned that wouldn't take, but what the heck.

So first we checked with the AT&T stores. Nothing but 64GB left, just too much for us.

This morning we stopped by the Apple store at 8:30 on the off chance they might be open early. And they were. And they had all models of iPhone available. And my wife's upgrade eligibility WAS reset successfully. So we walked out with her 32GB, and everything has been peachy.

In other news, I took a clearanced iPhone 4 Candy Shell case, took a dremel cutting tool and polishing tool to it, widening the whole for the mute toggle, cleaned up the edges - boom, new case for $7. :D
