So far no luck to cancel online pre-order through phone. This is just pure BS. Went to couple of local stores, no go either. Bunch arrogant lazy bastards at best. I am leaving ATT. Never realyl happy with the service anyway.
 
trying to get hope

has anyone got taken off backorder who was told they will get it in 14-21 days or 21-28? or is at&t actually right about something and we will get it then?
 
yeah looks like we all got screwed. i just spoke to someone at att and was told a lot of people have not got their orders yet(no crap) they were trying to ship the orders out next week. but people are looking at waiting 14-28 days(tell me something i dont know)
 
When I called yesterday, I was told they have my phone in there warehouse getting ready to be shipped. I will get a tracking inf21-28 days was a mistake.... total BS. Its just a game they are playing with us.
 
oh snap!! just called 611.. cancelled the pre-order that I made in store on the 7th and going to go pick up a new phone today!
 
hey i just wanted to add my comments. i finally got the 4s via fedex today before noon.

i ordered it via premier on 10/7 at 10:30amPT and stayed in backorder status all the way until 10/14 at 1pm PT where it switched from backorder:1 to backorder:0 and shipping in progress.

I checked the site throughout the day and it finally switched to "shipped" at around 11pm PT! Around midnight, I saw a shipping # was added and slated to be delivered on 10/17, which was infuriating, but at least I knew I could go to bed knowing that it was on it's way. Well, at 11:30am this morning, 10/15, fedex knocked on my door and delivered it. The whole experience was pretty stressful in not knowing when it would arrive but overall, a day late wasn't too bad at all. It was just the lack of information being provided by AT&T and the mob mentality on this board just made this first world problem blown way out of proportion for me. I don't need this kind of stress. Personally, for the next time, I know not to order via AT&T's site but go thru apple and to avoid obssessively tracking my package (if possible)
 
Yesterday I upgraded my 4 to the 4S, my primary line.
I found a radio shack with some phones left and tried upgrading my other line,
which I thought I had seen(online) that it was eligible for an upgrade as well.
radio shack said it wasn't, I called at&t and told them, they said my upgrade wasn't until march, but after some persuasion, the moved up my upgrade since it was within 6 months, except I thought it would reflect on my account, so I could get the phone from radio shack then and there, they said the only way is to order it over the phone, I did since it was the only way, I told them I wanted a 16G White, they said they had it, and would ship it priority and and waive the priority shipping fee. they gave me an order number, and charged my account.. could this be possible? customer service rep said I would get it monday, latest.... I'm skeptical. and I'm waiting to be able to see the status of my order online(It still won't show up, says maybe because it was within the last 24hr), and receive confirmation email or something... We'll See..

Here's my thing. I NEED AN ANSWER, and a SOLID one at that. I'm more or less blaming ATT's management (six-seven gure folk) for not doing thin gs better. I think they should have given certain people with certain order numbers certain answers. orders 1xxxx go first and you get it on launch day. Orders 5XXXXXX get theirs in a week. Why can't I get a more solid answer? That way I can plan accordingly. I don't want to cancel the order and go to a store only to find out that they shipped it any ways and I end up having $1000 coming out of my acct instead of $500. Sheesh.

But I must say the reps were pretty patient.
 
well look at it this way. we a week away from "pre order" then we get our iphone in 2 weeks!!!! awesome!!!! i hate. i mean i love at&t!!!! they are the worst.. i mean the best!!! awesome.

I ordered in store the morning of the 7th

I would love to know how or who you talked to. I have been trying to 2 days to cancel my order and nobody will let me. I have gone to and called store after store and called 611 talked to supervisors and managers and nobody will let me.

I got the same story, it is obvious they are just stringing people along. The story that they gave me was that it was activated and sitting in a warehouse waiting for a shipper. They could not give a tracking number because they were having a hard time finding enough carriers due to the large demand. She thought that I could get it this weekend. I think she was in another time zone and didn't realize that it is to late for weekend deliveries. It sounds so unprofessional it just might be true.

Anyway, big lesson learned - don't deal with the tier 1 CSR, ask immediately to be transferred to the escalated call line because you want to cancel your order. Yes you will be on hold for a while but the person you get has access to additional screens. With a little luck, you wont get the standard 14 days line of crap. They will be able to give more accurate info on your shipment. They do have authority to cancel on-line orders if they have not shipped.

I blame myself on this part. But mostly still its ATT's fault, not treating its customers decently, full of lies. It got squeezed by Apple, so it pass down the **** to us, customers. I was told by a CSR that we could cancel the shipping once we get the tracking info, only if you really want to quit ATT for good, otherwise there is no way they will cancel the online pre-order. If you pre-order in the store, you have much better chance to cancel it. Its the decision maker upstairs calling the shots...I feel really bad for ATT CSR for how much crap they have been taking because of the poor management...
 
When I call customer service they say that it is impossible to cancel my order because I ordered in the store. They said I had to call the store. I told them I tried already. He even went as far as to doing a conference call with the store i ordered from and the guy still said he couldn't do it. I ordered 10/7 at 10am and still on backorder. Who knows when i will get this damn thing.

I just def dont like getting smoke blown up my rear. With that being said, I'm over this 3gs...well guess I I have to have patience, and Like most of you will NEVER pre-order anything again from AT&T

At&t bs

EXTREMELY bad experience regarding iPhone 4S pre-order...nice to know I'm not the only one that AT&T is screwing.

They have the units in the stores
They will not (claim that they cannot) cancel any pre-orders
Just keep getting the run around....

ANY other carrier looking better right now. Why would they make it impossible to cancel an order?! They WERE going to get my money ANYWAY...and a renewed 2 year agreement with it!

I guess individual customers (even with over 10 years loyalty with them) don't make ANY contribution to their bottom line.

My post today was my first as well - I am with you...NEVER again will I pre-order (and quite likely, will just move all my family's business to another carrier).

I would call back and speak to another CSR and ask for escalated service - I have called about 7 times and gotten 7 different answers. Also if you think you are getting an international call center (delay times in responses or uncommon names) hang up and try until you get an arrogant American (LOL). Domestic call centers tend to have conversations and not just read from a script. It also makes a difference if you have Premire service (which is not so good customer service) or regular AT&T wireless. On-line pre orders can be cancelled. Again, escalated calls get dealt with by people with more experience and authority.

Reading through this thread, it seems like a lot of you are having difficulty cancelling pre-orders.

Maybe I got lucky, but I called ATT customer service, and 5 minutes later my pre-order was cancelled. Planning on checking the local apple store tomorrow for stock.
 
whats a number to call to cancel my order for all you people who have cancelled a order over the phone? i ordered at a at&t store so i dont know if its any different. and they say you cant cancel
 
Okay, so I MIGHT cancel my order as I have found out that my local Sam's club has one (three, infact). Now....does ATT put the money back when you cancel? How long does it take? I don't want to run into paymetn issues.
