Dignity restored…*almost.

Today the friendly people at Order Status told me that I have 14-21 days before my iPhone shows up. This is because my credit card flagged the charge as suspect and my order didn't go through until Saturday. Mind you this is contradictory to the multiple assurances I got from the CSR's in the days leading up to the 14th.

After spending 40 minutes on the phone with an AT&T CSR who assured me that I can't cancel my order given its status- we arrived at the conclusion that if I can find an AT&T store with a phone (good luck she said) I can buy it for $849. I cannot buy a phone from an Apple store since there's no communication between them. When my pre-order arrives I must refuse delivery of it and when they get it back my eligibility will be restored and I can call up and have them credit me the difference.

After trying to call like 5 AT&T stores (and none of their phones working) my local store finally answered their phone. They had my model in stock (64GB Black) - amazing. I told them, "Hold that phone, I'll be there in 20 minutes."

20 minutes later I arrived and they produced my phone from the back room. I tell them that "I'm in somewhat of a unique situation." They're astonished that I can't cancel my order - they call up and verify that I can't cancel my order "given its status" (which is 'pending shipment' mind you.) They tell them that they're selling me a phone right now and that I need one right away. No go- they can't cancel it.

I've got my phone now, this was way more frustrating then waiting in line for 4 hours on launch day. iCloud restore worked perfectly and I didn't even have to rearrange my spring board icons.

To those of you still stuck waiting- good luck and never trust the phone company.
 
If I am a new ATT customer (first time signing up) and I pre-ordered the 4s online on 10/7 (still "backordered), and SOMEHOW managed to cancel the online pre-order, will I be able to purchase an iphone 4s at an Apple Store (and signing up with ATT)?

If this is possible I will be heading to the Apple store tomorrow - but I don't want to be stuck with nothing a month from now!

Please help if you know the answer, thanks :)
 
It's UPS since they already tried to deliver it to the wrong address in a different state because of something at AT&T. I had to pay to get it redelivered.
Sounds like a typical ATT screw up, You shouldn't have to pay to have it re-delivered. I wrote a complaint letter to ATT,but I doubt I will get an answer. I hope you get it soon and it is worth the wait!
 
honestly, don't think there's much you can do especially if you ordered in-store in a large city. hopefully you can get it cancelled and just go to an apple store, which is prob your best bet. otherwise i think we're stuck. i tried going into the att store i bought it at today but they wouldnt cancel and had no info, but i didn't feel like fighting. they said they knew on 10/7 it would be 2-3 weeks but i was told mine would ship out on 10/14. oh well. ive spent all weekend worrying about this and i'm just gonna give up and hope it comes sooner rather than later.
 
Mine is still backordered, according to AT&T, as the website still tells me nothing (won't let me check). The soonest the store can upgrade is 11/1. 21 days is 10/29. So I am stuck waiting...
 
Any guesses as to whether it would be quicker to CANCEL your best buy pre-order and just order through Apple (and wait the 1-2 weeks)?
 
so for us that preordered on the 7th, what do we think is the realistic delivery estimate here? The last thing I was told was 14-21 days(from the date of the preorder).
 
News from AT&T Rep

I went in store to AT&T on 10/8/2011 and ordered the phone

I called AT&T today and I got a very friendly (finally) cs rep and he told me that they were no longer canceling pre-orders because the new shipment would be sent out this week. Also, he said that tonight at midnight the wireless order status page would be updated to reflect that iPhone4s would be shipped this week.

Mine has been on back order since the 8th I told him and he said that AT&T isn't updating the page too often. He reiterated the fact that tonight that should change at midnight.

SO I will be camping out waiting at midnight to see if this is true :apple:

There's couple of things i want to clarify:
#1) I'm actually fine if i would wait until this Friday to get it which is like 14 days from my pre-order date 10/7. But what's frustrating is that i/we have no idea when they will ship it. (also to answer the above person's post, if they keep their word, we will get in either this week or no later than next week, HOPE, HOPE, HOPE)
#2) To live without iPhone for 2 weeks isn't a big deal, but to see everyone else get it on their hands earlier than SO CALL PRE-ORDER gets me frustrated. It's not the phone itself it's how at&t does it. again, if they ship within this week, i can forgive them.

Ordering from store? = Never do it again!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to this thread I was able to get my 4s on Saturday. I didn't think of cancelling my pre orders at all. We pre ordered 2 4s 16G in both colors on Fri. Oct 7, on Monday I just happened to check the order and it wasn't there so I called CC and they said the they didn't receive the T&C that we did on Friday. Took them 1 hour to finally clear it as I was having trouble accepting it. The order went through for that day instead of Oct 7 and the order was schedule for shipment in 21-28 days, I was pissed as we lost 3 days and they said nothing can be done. On Sat Oct 15, I just happened to find this thread and decided to do what many had done. I called the nearest AT&T stores around me and they had only the 32G or 64G available, I wanted 1 so bad and told wife to call CC to see if they will cancel my order as she wasn't willing to pay the extra amount on hers. AT&T cancel my order without a problem and my wife asked if something can be done about the $100 difference and they will take $25 off for screwing our orders up.

So today, I wanted to surprise her and called a few Apple Stores to inquire if they had any 16G in stock, 3 out of 5 stores did(only in black). I quickly left and called CC to cancel my wife's order and reverse her upgrade, they did it without a problem (That's 2 times). She didn't care for colors at this point, I was in and out of the Apple store in 1 hr, I also asked the salesman if they had more available and he said they did, only 16G in black, 32 and 64 in both colors. He also said they were never out of stock for AT&T but for other carriers they are.

That store is in Marlton, NJ., the other stores that I called have them available (16G black only, 32 and 64 in both colors) are in Ardmore and KOP,PA. Hope this helps some of you that are close by. This is for AT&T.

That's encouraging. The only problem is that an AT&T rep said it. I have very little faith in them at this point.
 
Cancelled preorder got it from the store!

Ordered through the ATT store on 10/7 10am, was one of the first preorders. Said "backordered" even today. Went to the store and they said they can't cancel and i would have to pay ful price for the phone today and when my phone comes, i would have to return it. I looked at them dead in the eye and said ******* THAT S***, first of all it said backordered since the 7th, and they didnt even charge my card. Plus i told them that i spoke to a rep and he said that there was a glitch in their system that caused the orders to be messed up (lying ofcourse), and also told them the rep said that i can cancel the preorder in store and just buy another phone at the full discounted price. They had no 16gb whites so i ended up paying for the white 32gb. It CAN BE DONE PEOPLE! Never preordering from ATT though :)

Just got an email from AT&T telling me my order is scheduled to ship 21-28 days from my order date of 10/13. Guess you can call that progress :rolleyes:

I don't have any faith in them either, but here's hoping. I have been unable to check my status online at all. I have to call them, you know, so they can blow more smoke up my ....
 
Still Waiting

My wife ordered mine on 10/7 at 545pm in the store... they took money out for a min but then it never left the bank. Att site states that its still on back order. I will NEVER order from the store again.

i swear to you that its true. It CAN BE DONE, BUT THE MANAGERS CHOOSE NOT TO. YOU GOTTA EXPLAIN TO THEM THAT YOUR CARD HASNT BEEN CHARGED. WHAT TIME YOU PLACED YOUR ORDER, AND IT STILL SAYS BACKORDERED AND A REP TOLD YOU IT CAN BE CANCELLED FROM THE STORE! good luck people :)

My order that I placed on the 14th (confirmed the terms and conditions on the 16th) went from backordered "1" on all items to "0." Does this mean my items are allocated for and ready to be sent over?
