My info: Pre ordered on the 10/7 at ATT store. Iphone 16GB White. Current order status is back ordered.

Been on the phone with 611 for over an hour. Spoke with 1 rep and she said I can't cancel. I spoke with the next person higher up (10 minute wait), she said the same thing. I have been on hold to speak with the NEXT person higher up for about 10 minutes now too. Before being transferred to this person, the previous rep told me that the next higher up would tell me the same thing.

When I was finally put on with the next person (the 3rd), she told me I could not cancel my pre-order. After talking to her a little bit, she said that she could try to send an email to see if my order could be cancelled. She said she will call me back tomorrow when she hears back from them. We'll see tomorrow.

BTW: I was nice to them on the phone the whole time. I did however say that I expect this to be remedied or I will switch to another company. That threat was met with a "There is nothing I can do. I can not cancel your preorder." That was by the 2nd rep.

Look closer and you will notice that not only did I not say all but I specifically said to look at the first half of the pages in the thread. Of course almost everyone posting at this point didn't get their phone yet or they would likely not be posting.

Agreed.

Sorry, just frustrated that I have been unable to track since day 1. Even if the screen said 'pending,' that would be better than No info at all.

i ordered from apple.com before the iphone 4s came out last monday, and my order still says processing ,it says delivered by oct24-31st. when do u guys think ill get the phone if you go by other people's experience?

Pretty much all orders from my At&t store haven't been shipped. I see a bunch of people who ordered in-store on the 7th who still show backordered. *you can check other order statuses by entering an order number and guessing a nearby zip. shhhhhhhh. For example: my order number is 205. I check order ~150---> ordered on 7th--->still on backorder. I am guessing everyone's ship window depends on the demand at each individual store. Although, I'm not sure, just guessing. Hopefully we see a order-status refresh at midnight. :)

I think you'll be fine. Apple is usually pretty good on there delivery dates.

the worst..

this is the worst experience I've ever had with att, i can't believe we are still waiting for out preordered phones. i almost want to switch to verizon because of this.

Ordered 16GB White on 10/12/11. Just got an email about 2 hrs ago saying they haven't forgotten about me.

"We wanted to confirm that your order is still scheduled to be delivered 21 to 28 days from your order date"

So, still have some waiting to do. AT&T status is back-ordered. This was an online order, Premier.

Location: South Florida.

Also, my account had a pending charge for the phone from the day I ordered, now its gone. Not sure why.....maybe until it ships...

I tried this trick, and found that 10/7 orders are still back ordered...

I am one of the fools who did the pre-order in the store. My store only had a 64GB black left in the store on Sat. I'm trying not to call any more, and just be pleasantly surprised when my order status finally changes... (yeah I refresh about 42 times a day)

If I had a 4S, and Siri, I would ask "When will my 4S arrive?" no doubt it would answer "21-28 days" Stupid AT&T.

Understood. I hope you get it soon. It is amazing though and you will love it when you do get it.

Do you think you'd be more likely to get it from them? Plenty of us already received ours from AT&T. Apple sold 4 million in one weekend. Of course some are still waiting.

The Truth

Out of the pages on this thread, I've read every single one from page 100 to now. I pre-ordered my Iphone on the 10th in store during lunch. I have never owned an Iphone before, I'm still using a phone so old, it has the Cingular logo on it. I wish they were still around. My store rep, very nice guy, told me I should expect my phone by today. Still in backorder hell.

Everyone here is angry at ATT for screwing this up. They didn't screw anything up. Do you guys and galls really think that they didn't expect this to happen? They knew exactly what was going to happen. I've personally met a few Executive VP's who work for ATT West Coast and its just corporate greed. Nothing else. As others have said, they took your money a week early for a promise to get you the phone, they knew you werent going to get it. They have release Iphone's many times before. This wasn't the much anticipated iPhone 5 so they knew their demand in all areas of the country very well based on previous launches. They decided to have the pre-orders wait a few weeks for their phone, so that people can walk in and buy a phone. Thats why they won't let you cancel the pre-order. Some parts of the country are allowing this to happen because the Regional VP's are fed up themselves with the ********.

ATT is managed by a few VP's for each region in the country. When you call their support, you may get transferred to another region with other policies, thats why you always get different answers. When I call Comcast for support, I always get the exact same answers because they are scripted.

Don't get me wrong, I hate ATT right now, (The upper upper management) with the passion of a thousand suns. Everyone getting mad at the store managers and reps and phone people are not wrong for getting mad, just getting mad at the wrong people. They are just ATT's pawns that do as they are told.

If it was my company, I would have made damn sure, everyone who ordered their phone before the 14th, even on the 13th before noon, would get their damn phones Friday. I would go as far as renting Uhaul trucks and sending out Corporate officers to hand deliver iPhones to the people who gave their money and trust to ATT and even took days off work to wait for something that would never come.

That being said. STOP getting angry. Life is seriously too short to spend it feeling or being or doing anything that you don't want to do. Your phone will ARRIVE. It will. Stop refreshing the ATT order status page. It will come. I've been waiting the past few years to touch an Iphone. I thought I couldn't wait. Its just a phone. If our attachment to a device is so great, what is left for us in life? Steve's vision wasn't to get people addicted to a device, to give up thinking and a huge part of our brain function because we have an Iphone. Especially not to get angry, really angry over an intentional corporate decision. Steve wanted to make a device to make your life easier, and less complex. He has done that. Now wait for the damn phone. Go on with your life, most people here already have an Iphone.... and when the phone comes, feel the difference Steve created.

One more thing about ATT- They made this decision because the board said one simple thing- "Because we can". They need us. They can't live without us. We are the 99% but without them, we don't have phone service, so we must obey. Thats why they did this to us. Only thing we can do is drive them out of business and abolish ATT, or everyone on this forum to sign a petition or make a (ONE VIDEO) viral Youtube video that will get millions of views, potentially from the media to cover the story nationally so that ATT will give us who have been deceived some type of compensation. Again, if it was my Company and this happened unintentionally, I would let you walk into the store, log in to ATT order status, and if you order still showed backordered, I would let you walk out with the same Iphone you already bought. If the store didn't have the same model, I'd upgrade you. Its just the right thing to do.

That was my first and probably longest post on this entire forum (Made an account to write this) Had to get this off my mind... Sorry for any grammar or misspellings, I don't want to scroll up to sell all the underline red :)

Oh, and to all (I mean most) those people who post saying they are very happy with ATT. Come on now, we know you work for them in the PR department. Just stop lying to us, tell us the truth, compensate us for deceiving us, and give us our phones. We are, and we will continue paying you money each and every month....

Most mature, well-thought out, evidenced post I've ever seen on these forums. EVER.:)

B.S. again. Absolutely no problems ordering my iPhone 4S via AT&T. My local AT&T store is absolutely terrific.

Glad you got lucky. As you can see, many of us did not. Your local store may rock your socks, but the company as a whole has really dropped the ball on this one.

iPhone 4s 64gb white pre-ordered 10/8 from apple.com
Now in Lantau Island HK with a 10/20 delivery date.

Cancelled preorder

My husband and I preordered 1 white 16gb and 1 black 16gb on the 7th at 9am. Got the email confirmation for stating we would receive 1 by the 14th and the white in 14-21 days. On the 14th both orders still said back ordered. We went into the AT&T store and they said they had received all of their in-store preorders but only had 32gb available for sale. However they could not cancel our preorder. I called 611 and the gentleman was very nice in trying to cancel my order. It took about 15 minutes, he cancelled the order and reset our upgrade date. Went back into the store and purchased 1 white 32gb and 1 black 32gb. All of this was on the 14th. I don't know why some people could cancel their preorders and some could not. I would think if it could be done by one person, then it's not a matter of "can't do it" but more like "won't do it"...that's just bad customer service. ...We switched to AT&T for the iPhone when it first came out, now that it's a available on other networks, this may be our last contract with AT&T...

I really wish I hadn't pre-ordered through AT&T, and wouldn't have had the Apple->AT&T link worked at 4am on the 7th. I would have gladly stood in line to pick up a reservation at the Apple store... it is silly but a fun experience.

Since the link between the two didn't work, I ended up upgrading both mine and my wife's iPhones. I got ordered a 64G black and got her a 32G black. Order went though and got my confirmation email.

Bank of America freaked out, declined the "suspicious" looking charge... AT&T tried again two times with BoA killing it each time. About 7 am on the 8th BoA sends me an email about the change, I log into the website and confirm that everything is ok. Around 11 am I get a phone call from BoA saying the same thing, once again I confirm that all is good.

I call AT&T up and let them know what the deal is. They reprocess the order, and it goes through. I am assured that the order is good, and I will receive my 4S on Friday. Later I get an email stating that the order has been sent to the warehouse. Meanwhile my order states BackOrdered.

Friday comes and goes. Saturday and Sunday come and go. Monday afternoon I see my order is still listed as BackOrdered, I call up 611 and speak to someone. After 20 minutes on the phone while he attempts to "find my order" I am told that everything looks good, and I should be receiving an email with a tracking number by Wednesday or Thursday. I have the strange sensation of smoke being blown up my ass.

I guess I'll call back on Thursday, as I'm fairly sure my order still wont be shipped by then.

BoA was doing their job (for once) and unfortunately, that is likely the reason I still don't have my 4S. Frustrating, but not much I can do...

I certainly don't work for AT&T and am not in their PR. But I can honestly say I have never had a bad experience with them. Sure they haven't always gotten things right on the first try, but they are always willing to go back and fix it. The other 10 people I know Have AT&T are the same way. Would I rather not dish out $259 each month to them? Of course not. But they have taken care of me well beyond any other previous wireless carrier I have had. This was my second iPhone launch preorder and it went as promised.

So is it 80% of people have their phones and only the 20% that seem to fill up this forum with complaints? Probably. Not many people like to come back and post something positive.

Bottom line is look at the big picture and think if the grass is really greener on the other side. For me, I know it is not.

It's nothing wrong with the rep, or even the store.
It's the allocation/distribution of the iPhone. Just like that gentleman mentioned (the long post), they knew it so they put you at the end of the line from the beginning.

For those who got their phone. You just happens to be in the right distribution PLAN that they planned. (apple store, att online order etc)
For us who order from the store we just happens to be in the Wrong distribution PLAN that they planned. (store orders)

There are loyal customer treated right because they through the right distribution plan
There are also loyal customer who got screw by pre-order through store.

There are new customer who feels good because they got into the right distribution
there are new customer who feels they got screw (me) because they got into the wrong distribution

It's not the matter of 80% happy or 20% not, it's 80% of the people happens to jumped into the right at&t PLAN, ordered the phone through the right distribution channel

The truth is 80% of their customer ordered through the right distribution channel
and 20% of their customer ordered through the wrong distribution channel.

Apple has it's own distribution channel different than all the other carriers, so it's not Apple's fault. If you order today through Apple, you will get it AS PROMISED ON WEBSITE 1-2 weeks. ON TIME

Does anyone knows their distribution plan before head? (sales rep, managers, CSR)? NO ONE BUT THE HIGHT EXECUTIVES!!
And ultimately who planned the distribution/allocation plan?? at&t.

Plan? Apparently you haven't been reading this post at all. There are people who ordered by Internet on time and still no phone. There are people that ordered in store and no phone. And there are people who called and ordered; still no phone. So to all you conspiracy theory people: if it really were done on purpose, why aren't there any articles about it on ANY of the blogs or news sites? Because its NOT a conspiracy, it wasn't planned, they just messed up; again. As I have stated before, I just want to track my order. Even if I were to see 'pending' that would be better than seeing nothing. The fact that many of us can't even view our status is more evidence against your theory. Sorry, I just don't buy it.

Yes you can cancel

You absolutely CAN cancel. How do I know? BECAUSE I DID.

I ordered at 10am on the 7th in store. After spending a week on this forum and constantly checking my status, I knew I was not getting my phone on launch day. When the 14th came, my status was still on backorder so I called the ATT store that I pre-ordered from. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that as long as my order has not shipped, and I had my receipt, they could cancel my order. I took a chance and asked if they happened to have any in stock, and she told me they did. I rushed over to the ATT store (at 11am mind you), cancelled my order, and the lady brought my brand new 16g iPhone 4S. I even asked if I could get a 32g white instead, and luckily they had one of them in stock to, so I got it.

I am not sure how this all works ordering through the website or the phone, but you absolutely can cancel your pre-order as long as it hasn't shipped yet.
