Just an update, 16bg Black ordered online on 10/10 was just delivered. Cannot believe some orders made on the 7th are still on back order. Good luck everyone.

Location: Las Vegas

32gb black came off backorder around 9pm last night, still have a 16gb white on backorder.

Ordered in the store 10/8 before noon.

First thing I'm going to ask Siri...... What took you so long to get home?

I'm hoping I get the shipping notice today. Hopefully since it came off backorder yesterday morning, it will ship today.

That's the thing, it wouldn't be so bad if this stuff was actually being done first-come-first-served, as it was explained to us, and as it definitely should be. Instead of whatever the heck kind of "order" it actually is, because it obviously ain't first-come-first-served.

I just took this logic to my store's rep and asked specifically how the orders were being fulfilled. I was assured, "Oh no, they're definitely on a first-come, first-served basis." When I challenged, he reiterated, "No, they are." I informed him of multiple people receiving phones despite having ordered after me, and he told me that was likely due to "different sizes and colors." When I stated that phones of all colors and sizes were shipped to these customers, he said "They're all coming from the same place, so when they're ready, they're ready."

I then asked what incentive there is to "pre-ordering" if anyone can walk into competitors' stores and walk out with a phone while I'm still waiting, and he said, "No stores around here have them, and any new stock we get is going towards fulfilling the pre-orders. No AT&T stores have gotten any new shipments since running out after the first day."

Back to twiddling my thumbs on back-order I guess. I know my e-mail says 14-21 days with a little asterisk, but I have to say I'm feeling a little jaded at this point. Maybe if AT&T didn't keep it's employees completely in the dark we'd be getting somewhere.

Ordered: 2 White 16GB, 10/7, 5pm EST in MA (not Boston).

And now I understand why some customers want compensation for the wait time. Congrats on you getting yours, but it's crazy that some customers who ordered on the 7th are still waiting.

I am also getting mine today but I am pissed because I ordered from Premier (64 black) on the 8th and getting shipment today. However, I am getting my order at the same time someone on the 10th ordered, The fact that people who ordered on the 7th are still waiting is just crazy. How screwed up is that?

I think people really should be screaming about this and writing the BBB and FCC - it is just absurd that our tax dollars subsidize big companies that can screw consumers at will.

Are the 32 GB Whites really that rare of a request?? That's what I ordered - figures. It will never come.

Update on my list since yesterday (changes in black)...

40 16 GB black 10/7/2011 Shipped 10/20/2011

72 16 GB black 10/10/2011 (me)
73 16 GB white 10/10/2011
74 16 GB black 10/10/2011
75 16 GB black 10/10/2011 (wife's)

So 2 of the 16 GB black were removed from backorder but not shipped. 1 of the 32 GB black shipped. All of the 10/7 orders have now seen some sort of "action", apart from the 32 GB whites.

Getting there, I guess. V...e...r...y... slowly...

I think that AT&T must have a plentiful supply of 64GB Black, because all of those in my store (regardless of order date) have been shipped... no, such luck for the 32 White, all of those, with exception of 1, are still sitting on backorder.

Ordered 10/7 in store was waiting in back-order purgatory. At 9 PM on Sat went to Apple.com and reserved my iPhone, Sunday canceled at AT&T, went to apple store picked up my white 16g phone, took about 2 hours to do everything. My gf, who ordered the same time as me, is still on back-order and opted to wait thinking it would probably come off B.O. Monday, she text me an hour ago and told me she is going to do the same thing I did and go to the Apple store.

If you're stuck in B.O. it is really easy to reserve, go on apple.com at exactly 9 pm and click buy now then choose to reserve and pick up phone next day in store. The system refreshes every night at 9 pm, if you're trying to get a 16g you have to be fast, they were out by 9:05. Good luck, I'm over this thread and I'm out.

Hmmm... of the 2 that went to "0 backordered" today in my update, 1 of them shipped. Order #54 shipped, whereas the other "0 backordered" was #51. Both of them were 16 GB black. So... what sense does *that* make?

My white 16GB went off of backorder today. However, no shipping notice yet for my black 16GB that went off of backorder yesterday. This seems promising since the first order from my store went off of backorder today as well.

+1 I did that exact same thing last night and I get to pick up my phone today between 10-6pm at the apple store close to me. I did keep getting an error every time I tried saying that their servers were too busy and try again later but I persisted and eventually got through and I was able to reserve a 64g white which is what I wanted anyway. They did have 16g blk, 32 blk, and both blk and wht 64g available but they do go fast. I called att this morning and the CSR was very helpful and cancelled my order right away and re-instated my upgrade eligibility right away also. This is definitely the route to go if you want your phone now. I pre-ordered online on the 7th and have been waiting to come off B.O this whole time. I though I would definitely get it early this week but even as of this morning when I called to cancel the CSR told me the 21-28 days and she was surprised when I told her apple had one waiting for me today:D Make sure you reserve one first and then cancel the order the next morning;)

And another 16 GB black from my list was shipped today, order #45, which went to "0 backordered" on 10/22.

No movement on anything else.

At this point, 3 preorders from 10/7 are left to ship, 6 preorders from 10/8, and 10 preorders (up to and including mine and my wife's, there are probably more after ours but I'm not tracking those, obviously) from 10/10.

There are now only 4 16 GB black phones to ship before mine, and 15 total phones listed prior to my order. I'm hoping that the only number that really matters is the 4 16 GB black phones, as it appears size/color designations are sort of in their own mini-queues, if you get what I'm saying. Especially since 2 16 GB black phones shipped today.

Keep 'em coming, AT&T/Apple...

How do y'all know who is next on the list? and so on?

If you ordered in store - use this link and your order number and your zip

https://www.wireless.att.com/order_status/order_status.jsp

then you can guess earlier order numbers

for example - my order is 83, and I live in a small town with 2 main zip codes, so I put in numbers prior to mine (i.e. 54, zip code) and I can see the status of their order...

Hope that helps

How are you guys searching for all the pre-orders from your store and tracking when earlier orders ship or come off back order? I only know how to check my order, which is order number 195 :(

See wendyc78's posts for tips on how to search for local orders. It's pretty easy if you live in a not-very-big area with only a few zip codes.

You should see the snazzy spreadsheet I put together. Even hyperlinked each order number to auto-fill the order number and zip code on the order status website. :)

This did happen to me once with AT&T and they caught it a couple years ago, although it wasn't an iPhone it was still a smart phone I ended up getting sent two phones for some reason and they just double charged me the upgrade fee which was only about 99$ I think so my family kept both as a back up.

Phone arived, I called customer care today and my line hasn't updated yet and I'm still under the last contract although it showed in their system that I'm using the 4s now. It's funny cause I grab my 4s before my wife's and her line is updated while mine hasn't. I asked about keeping the extra and she said I can and will be charged 199 but if the system updates my line I will pay full price. Thinking of trying to hod it for 10 days to see if they will update my line, if they do i will send it back (have 14 days to return).

can some one look for mine 265..

What is your zip code?

Now THAT is awesome.

If only AT&T put in the effort that YOU are putting in... :)

Now you just need to figure out the passcode algorithm so you can bypass that step altogether and get REALTIME UPDATES!!!! AHHHHHH!

Just thought I'd update everyone..

I placed my order in store at 2:30PM PST on October 7th, and am still to this very moment back ordered. Not a single thing has changed about my order since I first pre ordered. I have given up, and do not know what to do at this point. I will call when I get off of work at 5 today to see if they can cancel my order and I'll just reserve through Apple for next day.

I have called the AT&T store that completed the order multiple times though, because CSR's kept giving me the "We can't touch in-store orders. Only that store can.", and the store is absolutely against me canceling. Saying that there's "no possible way" and to "wait the 14-21 days, then come in and we'll give you one in store." ?????? why not cancel my order instead, because you guys are sold out and will be for a while? Hope is gone over here..

Yep, color codes, different font formats, it's rough but snazzy. Lifelong Doctor Who fan here, so obviously I'm into putting lists together and doing nerdy tech-y things like spreadsheets etc.

Ha! I'm not *that* good! But that would be pretty sweet, that's for sure.

I haven't done it myself, but have you tried to elevate your in-store complaint/cancel-request to management? From what I've read, often that's the only person who is able to cancel pre-orders. If you're getting blockage from management, then I'm sorry, I don't know what to suggest. Ask to get on the phone to the District Manager or Regional Manager? Don't know the exact hierarchy of AT&T stores, just old memories of my crappy B&N days.

I'd like to see more people provide their STATE information.. it seems as though some areas of the US are getting them much faster than others (which wouldn't surprise me). Then we could really start trying to ascertain what's going on in that "first-come first-serve" methodology..

Density maps anyone? :)

Hey, order #51 was lucky today after all, his 16 GB black shipped today, too. Good for him, was getting worried for him.

Only 3 more 16 GB black iPhone 4S's before mine...
