I know this isn't good news for all those 10/7 faithful but I guess things are actually moving.Status just changed 4 mins ago.Maybe because so many have canceled things are continuing to move.

Again I'm happy for you but, OMFG! I feel like AT&T has their numbers backwards. You count 7, 8, 9, 10. not 10, 9, 8, 7. Good God, My reward for skipping my morning class for engineering to order it on 10/7, is being one of the last ones to get their phone - _ -

I am happy for you, since I also ordered on the 12th. However, it's not good that people ordering this late are getting their phones before people who ordered on the 7th. I have no idea what the hell is going on at AT&T.

I'm happy for you and all but, that's such Bull***!!!! I pre-order on the 7th and I get jack squat. People pre order way after the fact and get their phones? wtf!!!

Was yours a 16GB White by anychance? Online or In-store?

Also, does it matter what part of the country they are shipping to? After checking hopelessly multiple times everyday for my status to change, I gave up and didn't even bother checking today until I got an email saying:

"Thank you for your recent purchase from the AT&T Premier Online Store. We're pleased that you chose AT&T as your service provider.
We wanted to confirm that your order is still scheduled to be delivered 21 to 28 days from your order date, shown below."

So I decided to check, and boom...Off back-order. Very weird. I was almost positive it wasn't going to get off back-order until November.

One things for sure though, I'm not pre-ordering through AT&T again in the future.

Yes I ordered the same day, model, size, and color as you. I live in a smaller city, so population density may be a factor when it comes to who gets what and when. I agree with you on the pre-ordering bit. They just lost a lot of repeat customers with the stuff they're pulling right now. How many years in a row has AT&T had problems with these phones on launch? This is my first iPhone, well my first smartphone even, so I wasn't around for the others.

Meanwhile, I see people in the Verizon and Sprint threads getting their phones relatively quickly. Granted I didn't read more than a couple of pages each, but still. There's no excuse for the way these pre-orders are handled. If the store has stock, it should be going out to people who ordered first, not sitting on the shelves for the late adopters to get a phone before those who paid early. I'm aware the way the store stock and online stock is setup, it is not possible to mix the two. They need to figure out a way, or just stop taking pre-orders altogether. I will never step foot inside another AT&T store for an Apple product. Bad form indeed, AT&T.
 
I skipped one of my engineering classes to go pre-order the morning of the 7th. Now everyday my professor asks me if it was worth it. And I take a bunch of crap at work for being THAT guy who did it through AT&T. I hate AT&T so much right now. And I didn't even have problems with my 32gb 3GS pre-order. I pre-ordered the first day you could, then just went to the AT&T store on launch day and got it no problem.

I'm done with AT&T after this phone. If the iPhone 5 by some miracle still doesn't offer talk and surf on Verizon I'm still gonna switch and live with it. Most likely though, it will be LTE and be able to talk and surf. Good riddance to this company (btw not just bc this ordering system is random, but bc their towers coverage sucks)

Finally succeeded in canceling my order with AT&T for both iPhone 4S "pre-orders".... "pre-order" is truly a joke.

Went online today to Apple's store and successfully reserved 2 iPhone 4S for pickup at an Apple Store direct.

Ahhhhh. No more depending upon AT&T and watching promises get broken...
 
Thanks Trek. That was it. And it now looks like everyone else and says backordered 1.

I tried apple dot com to reserve a unit but after 9 minutes of frozen websites, only the 32 and 64 gb versions were available in black for At&t. Bummer. I'll try again tomorrow.


Glad to introduce you to the back order hell order status page. :) Hope you get your phone soon. If you can reserve one thru apple, that's probably your quickest bet. May be a small hassle getting your order cancelled with AT&T but prob worth it.

I am still shocked it's moving and saddened for the 10/7 folks.I have learned a lesson though to avoid AT&T online orders next time and just book through apple.com directly for next day pickup.Amazing it may still fall w/i the 14-21 day window they promised.We'll see.

Wow this is really odd. I checked my order status at around noon and my black 16GB showed a tracking number. Tonight I get a shipping confirmation email for my white 16GB. I check both tracking and the white is to arrive tomorrow and the black on friday. Weird...but at least things are moving.

I hope you all get out of backorder hell or get shipping confirmations soon.
 
Still nothing. Ordered 10/7 in store San Francisco around 4pm white 16gb.

All apple stores around me are out! Uggghhh!!!:mad::mad::mad:
 
Pre-ordered online on 10/10 and i've been back-ordered ever since. I decided to try and reserve one at Apple and got lucky and reserved a 64gb white 4s. I'm picking it up tomorrow @ 10am :). When i called AT&T to cancel they were very apologetic and more than happy to cancel my preorder with no questions asked.
 
I've planned it out. If AT&T still refuses to cancel my "pre order", the day I get off of back order and get a tracking number I will run down my street with my pants around my ankles yelling "YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!" while waving my arms in the air and the biggest smile on my face.

..however. If they do cancel it, then I will pick it up at the Apple store no problem and hit myself in the balls with a hammer for not drinking a V8.

Hiding anger with a smile, isn't it? Murder is always better when you're smiling ;)

AT&T will cancel your preorder without hesitation. I just did it and i didn't even have to ask for a supervisor. The rep canceled the order and reset my upgrade eligibility so i can pick it up at Apple tomorrow.

Yup, I can confirm that AT&T now will cancel preorders upon request. They changed their policy a couple of days ago. Of course, all of the local stores are out of iPhone's now, so it's kind of pointless for me. LOL

iPhone 4s. Black. 32 GB. Pre-ordered in AT&T store Oct. 7th at 4:36 pm.
Arrived today, Oct. 25th at 2:32 pm.
A bit of a wait, but this is a big step up from the iPhone 3 I’ve been using, so hey, I’m pretty stoked to get it. :p

From what the apple rep told me they get additional shipments in multiple times a week, so they said to check back every night. I had to check 3 stores around me before i found the one i wanted. I guess i got lucky on my first try but it's worth a shot.

I think I'll reserve one night, and then call the next day in the morning and get my order canceled. They DO cancel and re-instate eligibility immediately, right?

Hey neighbor, good for you. I went the Apple route. I had to pay the $250 upgrade fee, but AT&T credited me $250+tax and $18 for the upgrade fee. About 2 months with no bill.
 
Ordered a white 16gb on the 9th at an att store....still backorder and no movement on the status....huh???? :eek: UGH!!:mad: :(
 
I ordered a 16gb black online 8:30am Oct 12th. Backordered was dropped as of this morning. Progress...I guess.
