What a joke....Here is my conversation with an online rep. This is exactly why no one can get a straight answer. These guys have NO CLUE what they are talking about!!

I left out the first part of the conversaion with my personal info. And I just copied and pasted from the chat window piece by piece because it wouldn't let me take a screen shot of the entire conversation. And the "SAVE" option at the bottom of the window only "saved" the "virtual" part of the conversation.

I just picture "nick" typing on a greasy keyboard, with one hand, feet up, and eating a bag of funions.

Nicholas Galoni: The phones will be shipped on the 14th.

You: Shipped on the 14th, or delivered on the 14th
I was told it would arrive on the 14th

Nicholas Galoni: If you ordered the device before 5PM on the 7th than you will receive it on the 14th.

You: Ok, I did. I ordered early morning. When should I expect to see an update to my order status (tracking #'s etc)

Nicholas Galoni: The 14th.
When the device ships.

You: Just so I am clear...NO phones have shipped as of yet?

Nicholas Galoni: That is correct.

You: Ok, so I wont see an update until the day it's supposed to deliver?

Nicholas Galoni: That is correct.

Think about it, Fedex ground is usually what, 2-4 business day shipping? So if you ARE going to receive your phone on Friday 14th, you can only assume you will receive a confirmation email for shipping late tonight or sometime on Wednesday. Also, follow the money....... (check you credit card report);)
 
Moral of the story... Order directly from Apple

I believe most people here would agree with me when I say that it was early in the morning and there was a split decision of being one of the millions of people clicking away at the apple store website or one of the few who got onto ATT as soon as they opened up their pre-orders. With all the crashing going on I didn't want to be left hanging without a pre-order should there not be very much stock.
 
I'm too lazy to look through this thread, so forgive me if this was discussed, but I just talked to AT&T and the lady who helped me said I would receive an e-mail that states my device is ready to ship, approximately up to 72 hours from my order date. At that point, I have 72 hours to respond or they will cancel my order. Once I've responded, they will ship the device.

WTF? Anyone else hear this? This sounds like bureaucratic crap to me. At this point, I hope they cancel it. I'll just wait til the hoopla dies down and just get it from the Apple Store directly, my i4 is fine.

I shoulda went and ordered from Apple.

I don't understand??

Except, as with the iPhone 4, I assume these are coming Standard Overnight and you will get a tracking number the day before.

I ordered my iPhone on Friday at approximately 4:30 PM PST, and it's a Black 64GB. None of my online tracking statuses have changed since I posted screenshots across all 3 sites and the original email yesterday.

The FedEx tracking number does not yet appear on the FedEx website for tracking but I'll mention as soon as it does.

Edit: Sorry for the delay, I had a lot of boxes to cover.

Didn't AT&T say that anyone who ordered after 4:30pm EST would have to wait 21+ days?

Just chatted it up with an online rep, I tried to fish for some tracking info or even shipping company, but he wouldn't/couldn't give that to me. I did however get this helpful line

I chatted with AT&T today since no one seems to have a specific answer. This is what they about my situation:

Amanda Davis: Backorder means that the warehouse is awaiting the phones to arrive. So we get the phones in everyday. If the order is going to longer than we expect to ship. Someone will contact you.

you: I also ordered my iPhone 4S on a Friday, but my over states that it was done on 10/8.

Amanda Davis: That's correct, We did not process it until the next day. Rest assured that all orders are shipped in the order they come to our company.

you: Is there anyway that you can see when the phone will be shipped, or how far i am down the list.

Amanda Davis: No there is no way to tell just yet. We are sure everyone is excited about there new phones, and we are working overtime to get them delivered.

you: Ive just heard different this from ATT representative. Some have told me they will ship tomorrow, another told me they ship friday, and others have told me I would have to wait 21-28 days. I would just like an actual estimate if thats possible. That way I could tell if I would just rather pick it up at a store, because 28 days is a REALLY long time.

you: I got two emails. I got the first one for 10/7 which stated 10/14. Then I got a second email on 10/8 asking me to call ATT, and thats when I was told they ship friday, Then I called later that night and was given the 21-28.

Amanda Davis: You will get your order on next week. We are shipping them very fast once we get them.
Amanda Davis: You did not place your order this week. So you got in early enough to get it in next week.

you: So I did not make it early enough for a friday release, so I should maybe expect it Mon-Fri of next week?

Hope this helps anybody. Next time I am ordering through Apple, their customers seem to be having a better experience.
 

Just to be fair. I order from Amazon a lot with overnight delivery and 99% of the times I don't get tracking number until say 3-4AM in the morning. A few hours before I receive the item.

Also, for other providers when I do overnight. Even if the tracking does show up. In many cases It doesn't even work until it's out for delivery.

So if they are using overnight delivery I don't see this as too uncommon.

What part do you not understand? Basically, they are saying that when my iPhone is ready to ship, I will receive an e-mail stating a) it is ready to ship, b) I will have 72 hours to reply back as an acknowledgement and c) if I don't do "b" within 72 hours they will cancel my order.

Sounds like bureaucratic crap to me! I'm just asking if anyone else heard this one, it's one helluva doozy even for AT&T. And if this is true, that's even worse!
 
I called AT&T Premier Support to see why my order was marked "ATTENTION" yesterday and then tried to get them to change my shipping address. The woman said she wasn't allowed to tell me what the shipping address of the phone was, but only that it wasn't my home address which I gave her...

THIS!!! I just looked at my FedEx tracking from AT&T Premier from last year for the Iphone 4, the email from AT&T with the tracking number came at 7:41PM the night before it was delivered. There is only one entry in the tracking history and that is the delivery at my house the next day at 10:41AM.

I'm not sure if they changed it from last year but Premier at least was overnight delivery. It shipped on the one day and I had it the next. I don't remember the exact shipping location but think it was TX and I live in a residential part of CT.

Edit: Just checked my tracking from last year and the email I received with the tracking info was time stamped 10:17PM and it arrived at my house at 1:55PM the next day

I actually ordered one from AT&T and one from Apple. Ordering stopped for a while on the Apple site so I had to order my wife's on the AT&T site. Mine is already in Kentucky. Her phone is who knows where like the rest of yours. Apple's was harder to get an order in, but it is the way to go I guess.

I just chatted with an Amanda. What a condescending b****. I considered doing chat again to see if I could get someone else. Screw it. It'll be here. I wanted to take the day off to be sure I was home to get it. Other than that, I really dont care.

Either way, I have my confirmation email telling me my order is being delivered on the 14th. I am fairly put off by the fact that customer service doesnt have or doesnt admit to knowing the information we were provided when ordering.
