I ordered a gray 6S. It still says that it should arrive on the 25th.

I've never ordered an iPhone before, I've always bought them in the store. What do I do when the phone arrives? I hope I can set it up myself, I would hate to have to take it to a crowded ATT store.

I currently have an iPhone 5. I assume I switch the SIM card to the 6S. Then let iTunes restore the phone from the iCloud backup I have of my iPhone 5. Is that correct? Or is there anything else?
The new phone will come with a SIM card so you just need to activate it and restore your iPhone 5 backup. The old SIM card would then be useless.

There are instructions. Don't worry.

Personally I have never, ever had to remove and insert a SIM card. When you ordered the phone you hopefully ordered it on the line you want to use it with. If so, the phone will have a sim card already in it and ready to go. You just plug it into your computer, iTunes will recognize it as a new iPhone and you just follow the on-screen instructions.

Oh! I would recommend you make a back-up of your 5 before you do anything--you know, just go through a normal sync routine. Then when you plug in the new phone at some point it will ask you "Do you want to set up as a new phone or use a back-up?" or something like that. I can't remember the exact wording. Someone can correct me if they remember the exact steps. Anyway, you choose the back-up option and it loads all your pertinent data onto the new phone from the back-up (like your contact files, for example).

Don't worry...it's super-simple. Apple always makes it easy.

I have to go into the AT&T store. I bought the phone on my wife's number but I need to swap it around. I didn't realize I could transfer an upgrade, at the time of purchase... Well who would realize that? It was feeding frenzy time.

Anyway I have to take in two phones and have them swapped.

Anyone willing to give up unlimited data, to have the phone on launch day, has some mental problems. (from a page or so back)

Every other year I use my wife's upgrade so I can have a new phone every year on 2yr contract.. You don't need to go to store. Just put the nano SIMCard from your 5 into your 6S and it will activate to your number. And I'm a little fuzzy on what the exact startup screens ask you when you startup your new phone out of the box.. I think it may even ask you which line to activate it to. Does anyone remember the exact questions it asks you at activation? Of course the brand new phone can't have any idea who is activating it from the factory settings..

I do know the SIM Card trick will work - and that you don't need to go to a store.

Oh yeah?? Mental problems?

I gave up unlimited data for... well I don't even remember how I lost it. That's how little I care. The 3 GB they give me is more than enough, I have the rollover program so it's up to 5GB+.

I guess you are one of those people who thinks that everyone should think and do as you do, huh? Mental problems you say...

The new phone will just need to be activated. It will come with instructions on how to activate online. I would highly recommend doing a backup of your old phone to iTunes then once the new phone is activated just do a restore of that backup to the new phone unless you want a fresh start with the new phone. The activation process is very easy.

I gave up my unlimited data a while back because of two reasons. 1) My wife and I were only using around 2GB a month yet we were both paying for 30$ unlimited data on our lines. 2) When AT&T will throttle you at 5GB it's not really unlimited. I know that in just the past week they decided to call unlimited data 22GB but still.. I cut around 75$ a month from my bill and I still have more data than I use. Eventually data will be just like voice and texts which also used to be over priced.

Some people are getting tracking numbers who ordered from Apple.com. When should we start seeing some progress on our orders if we still see a 9/24 shipping date?

AT&T always ships 2-day priority for online orders. Guessing we'll see tracking numbers on Tuesday/Wednesday.

So they don't move from China until then?
They will, but you won't see that. They just send AT&T a pile of phones and then at the warehouse it gets assigned to you and picked up for shipping. I got my shipping number last year the day before it arrived.

This is what mine has said for a few days now.

Order date: 09/12/2015 at 7:00:31 AM EDT

Order status:
Preparing to ship
We're getting your order ready to ship. Expect your items to ship during the dates we gave you.
Thank you for placing your order with us.
Estimated ship dates:
September 24, 2015 - September 24, 2015

When I text to check the status it changes to "in progress". They mean the same according to a rep I spoke with yesterday. I just can't wait to start tracking it when it ships.

THIS!

I gave up unlimited for a 15 gb plan. MORE than enough data. Then when they did their double data for the same price we got 30 gb for no extra charge. We're up to 50+ gb rollover. I don't miss unlimited at all. No restrictions either. I've tried to use 50 gb of data a month and can't!

This is exactly my story.. I have over 50GB in rollover banked too. I've tried to watch HD movies - 2 of them so far this month at 2+ hours each.. and still can't deplete anywhere near that 50GB of data. So for all intents and purposes I also 'have' "unlimited".. Unlimited for anything I could possibly throw at it. In fact I'm thinking about dropping back down to 15Gb - now that we have rollover... well.. DOH..!! I'm already AT that 15GB price.. my rate still says 'Promo 30GB'.. meaning it's a promo rate - so changing to 15GB wouldn't drop the rate down at all.. Well.. Unlimited is really a relic of the past. Worrying about getting throttled at 22Gb would seem a step DOWN to me now.. since I have '0' worry of ever getting throttled on my plan and scads of banked GB for use.

I agree with you guys, that's what I was saying. I use cellular data all the time and never even think about it, yet my base plan covers everything that I need.

I think some people want to use their cell phone for their home internet connection or have jobs in which they can sit there for hours a day watching HD movies. But for me, the 3GB plan is more than enough and the rollover option means that I have lots of extra built up in case I ever need it.

So what kind of price range are your monthly bills in? Curious.

My plan gives me 2 GB of data, lol, and I can't even use that. I pay $68/month.

I think the economics of plans is going to vary for everyone based on usage. Right now $70 a month for 22gb of 'unlimited data' (5gb prior was workable because I was never throttled) is a pretty good deal. I am not sure any other carrier can beat that for me.

So no AT&T people have preparing for shipping? I see t mobile. Verizon ordered from their respective sites are preparing. I'm NOT. talking about Apple orders.

My status has been preparing for shipment for days now. (6S with a 9/24 ship date) but no tracking number or charge to my account. Hopefully something will happen soon.
