My friend that works at best buy told me they will have 6s and 6s plus on stock on launch day. If on sept 25 my 6s plus hasnt been shipped i will go early and catch one there and cancel my preorder because i have more than one line eligible to upgrade :)

It's what we all hated about ordering through AT&T last year - the complete lack of information about your order literally until it ships. Of course, what "Preparing to Ship/Back-ordered/In Progress" means is "We don't even have the phone that we will eventually ship you yet and don't know when we will get it." It's why I ordered from Apple this year.

I ordered with Apple this year as well (Apple Store App) because last year was a DISASTER with AT&T. I ordered a few minutes before 3am EST and got October dates! WTF!!!! And of course, I didn't get anything on launch. I got my phone a week and some days later.

My iPhone 6+ 128 gig Rose Gold is ready to ship from Apple!!!!

I know there's going to be some broken hearts here for those wanting and hoping for the iPhone 6 + (especially the Rose Gold) on launch day. Few will be happy, many won't be happy. But I know many ordered for the subsidized pricing and well, I can't blame em. Good luck to everyone that ordered through AT&T. I KNOW EXACTLY how you feel.

I guess Apple is just trying to get them out to the public as soon as possible but I wonder why they don't start ramping things up just a little sooner. I know that during peak production they can typically crank out a few hundred thousand a day. Seems like the richest company in the world could have a few more of their largest selling item ready for their launch, especially considering they sold around 10 million phones on the first weekend of pre-orders last year. I guess we are all just speculating at this point given the lack of information from At&t but I have read about issues with the 6s+ screen and supply restraint. Guess we'll all know what to expect by next Wednesday.

Here's the magic I would like to know about -- presumably, the OS is not ready until about a week before the event. Gold Master and all that jazz. So, if there are a couple million phones sitting there with no OS, just how in god's (Thor) name do they get those updated and ready to go?? Or do they roll off the line complete with the latest OS but we don't get to see it until after the event?
My curiousity... she is piqued.

No broken heart here. When I get my 6s Plus I'll get it. I'm happy for you. Enjoy it :)

I've actually wondered how they load the OS onto the phone during the manufacturing process. I can only guess that perhaps the OS is flashed onto the system storage prior assembly. It seems unlikely that they connect each phone to some sort of massive bench with a thousand lightning cords to load the OS prior to boxing. I might have to dig into this now and see what info they have.

Yes - many people who ordered 6S+ through Apple have 9/25 ship dates. But they also sold out around 3 hours after pre-order launch. What's disconcerting about the way AT&T does it - is that in the first several hours - people ordering from ATT got the 9/25 ship date...only to have it change to late October 48-72 hours later. This sucks you in.. and doesn't give you any chance to BAIL over to the Apple site.

I'll bet many 6S+ enthusiasts, if they had seen the late October date in their confirmation email.., would have gone to Apple and got one - and canceled the AT&T one.. EVEN if it meant losing their Unlimited Plan or moving from 2yr to NEXT. But no one was given that chance.

Say what? NO way! I didn't know this happened. So you got 9/25 dates and it changed after a few hours? I'd be so angry...

I got my order in within the first 11 minutes. My date has always been 10/16-10/23. I got a confirmation email minutes after my order was placed. It's all going to come down to how many phones At&t has. They will get shipped out first come first serve. Apple didn't sell out of the phone I ordered until mid morning, they had them at 6:30am and at 9:30am they were listing 2-3 week ship. I'm confident I won't be waiting until October for my preorder. Like others have said, it's kinda pointless to have preorders and give you a specific time your order was placed if they won't have any to ship until October. By mid next week everyone will know if they made the cut list or if they will be getting their phone on the 25th. I haven't seen a single person that ordered a plus model with a 9/25 ship date from At&t.

No, it did not happen. I got my order in at 11:58 pm PST...2 minutes before the announced pre-order time. My date has always been 10/16 to 10/23 and I did not feel the urge to bail to the Apple site.

It is what it is. What it is, is a phone.

Everyone who ordered without fire few hours got October 16 date. My boyfriends sister got an October 23 date the next day ordering in the afternoon

Att, from what I've been reading , I haven't seen any one with this date yet...Rose Gold 64gb 6s+. I ordered 7:00am est pre-order day.

Just to chime in: last year's pre-order season also saw the crazy October numbers. I ordered a 6+. Shortly before launch, some customers' delivery dates were moved up to launch day. Others were moved up from late October to the first two weeks of the month (10/2-10/14 or something like that). I was in the 10/2 window and I received my phone 6 business days after launch.

Some of us may not get our ATT orders on launch day, but we might not have to wait until October either. :)
That's exactly what happened to me. I was given 10/2 but got it on the 9/26. That's why I'm very optimistic that my apple.com 10/13 date will almost certainly move up a week or so.

I was waiting to get onto the AT&T site starting at 2:50am est and was able to get on at 3:05-3:06am est and all of the 6s plus's were in the oct 16-23 ship date.

Checked out that link. Discusses the supply chain and who makes what but doesn't really dig down into the assembly process nor does it mention how the iOS is copied to each device. Guess I'll try that Google thing you mentioned, never heard of it before.

I tried googling that too and only found a quora article that suggest the OS is really done a week or two before the event/release and loaded during assembly. It makes sense. With how many phones FoxConn can crank out a day they really wouldn't have to start production until a couple weeks before launch to have a 5 million ready to go.

I ordered a gray 6S. It still says that it should arrive on the 25th.

I've never ordered an iPhone before, I've always bought them in the store. What do I do when the phone arrives? I hope I can set it up myself, I would hate to have to take it to a crowded ATT store.

I currently have an iPhone 5. I assume I switch the SIM card to the 6S. Then let iTunes restore the phone from the iCloud backup I have of my iPhone 5. Is that correct? Or is there anything else?
