You tend to speak for everyone when you say the iPhone 4 has signal issues
Not everyone does

Second, why are you here only to insult people who choose to go with the iPhone 4, you seem pretty confident and happy for your EVO. Makes me question why you're here

Yeah. I tested the "death grip" with my phone and it actually RAISED the signal. I have dropped my phone with no damage. Not trying to brag or anything, but just because there are a lot of posts about problems doesn't mean its the majority. If you think about it, ONLY people with problems post so the silent majority (Nixon?) says that the iPhone is still a great phone.

But NO network comes close to the utter frustration that I experience with AT&T. Living in Seattle I drop so many calls that it's almost not worth making a long call via 3G, so I switch it off and use EDGE.

Which part of Seattle do you live in? I live in the north end (Lynnwood) and work in downtown (Belltown). Neither location gives me any dropped calls. The 3G speed is pretty good in Lynnwood, too, though I'd agree that the same cannot be said about downtown. There are a couple of spots that I'm aware of where the AT&T signal gets really weak, but I don't think AT&T is worse than others in that respect.

I've been using a cellphone since 1992-1993. I've been with McCaw Cellular, VoiceStream and Sprint. As far as I remember, none of them have been much better than AT&T, if at all.

Just my personal opinion. :)

1) Move to another city. At&t works perfectly in Dallas (me and at least one other person in this thread can vouch). Surprised it doesn't work that good in Seattle, but meh.
2) Sell iPhone and downgrade to another phone. One thing I've noticed is when my iphone 3G broke and i switched to another phone, their service wasn't bad at all. Not saying that it's Apple's fault, but it definitely is not 100% At&t's fault.
3) Switch cell phone providers. Verizon has the Droid, T-Mobile has the Nexus One/iPhone (lol), and Sprint has the Evo 4G. There is plenty to replace the iPhone 4 feature-wise. Just make sure to find out which ones are the best in your area (asking around usually helps i think)
4) Wait it out. At&t aren't just twiddling their thumbs counting money. They are constantly building more towers and/or improving existing ones. A few years ago my iPhone dropped calls left and right (at least twice a day), and this was in the DFW area. Now, not only have i not had a dropped call, the 3G speeds are thru the roof.

Hopefully one of those steps help. I'd actually suggest waiting for the iPhone to be unlocked and switch to T-Mobile (pretty sure you said you had the service b4).

It's all subjective. Depending on where you live, and what service you have in that area is what matters. AT&T and Apple owe you, or anyone else for that matter, anything. If the new phone has issues, or isn't working [defective], then bring it back and get your money back.

It's not their job to see/check if their phones/service works in your area. That's up to you! I didn't buy a Verizon or Sprint phone because they don't in my area. That's no one's fault. But if I bought an Android phone from either, and it didn't work, that's my fault...

Honestly dude I didn't read your post cause I've got better things to do but based on Macrumors posting history, I'm sure you've got nothing constructive to say.

Why you being a ass, what he said is true. It seems like a simple solution, if you dont like att dont use there service, theres no point in complaining to us when we can give a crap about what you say. For me ATT, in the northeast ATT is second best, only bested by verizon, tmobile is utter crap and sprint is almost just as bad.

For the record, AT&T does work pretty well in Seattle - at least for me and several friends of mine who have iPhones. That's why I'm puzzled as to why the OP is having so much trouble with AT&T here.

I used to live in Belltown (just off Denny Way) and it was terrible there, and for everyone I know.

It's not AT&T, it's your phone.

Yes, yes, it's my phone, of course. And my wife's phone. And my neighbors' phones. All our phones are bad. We know. I just fancied blaming AT&T for no reason.

I know AT&T has always been the best network for me going back to the days of Pocketnet. The only network i've ever had issues with has been verizon at the various times i've tested out their phones.

But your mileage may vary. :D

I'd probably just switch carriers if I were you. No phone is worth the frustration.

Oh I disagree. I love the iPhone, have way too much invested it in (apps etc), that I'd probably put up with just about anything to keep it. Not that I WANT the frustration, of course... :D

I live in Chicago and At&T has been great fro me. I've had T-Mobile and Verizon previously and both networks were adequate at best for me.

It's so true. I own a TON of Apple products. I've been very active on these forums, asking questions and helping others with answers. I came on here to voice my utter frustration with AT&T. Apple should be ashamed of itself for using them for the iPhone. Those who have no issues? Good for you. You're of no use. Those of you who live in cities where AT&T sucks know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Every friend of mine here (with or without an iPhone on the 3G network) complains of the exact same thing.

They're a joke.

I guess its also att's fault that the signal drops when you put your finger on the lower left corner of the iphone too right?:rolleyes:

My work phone is through ATT as well and guess what?? I don't drop calls on it. I love my iphone, but lets be realistic... The iphone is partly the cause for some of the issues many iphone users blame on att's network.

I never have issues with AT&T. It really does depend upon location.

I've had AT&T since oh... well, back when they were Cingular.

Soo.... 1998-9ish?

Never had an issue. I was pleased when they launched the iPhone on AT&T, because I didn't have to switch networks.

However, I know there are people in other cities/states that can't get good reception. Fortunately, I travel to such locations infrequently.

I like AT&T, and I like GSM. I can't quite figure why anyone would prefer CDMA, unless they really just didn't have decent GSM service in their area.

I also can't figure why anyone who travels out of country would want a phone that didn't use a SIM.

Eh.

No I disagree. I pretty much NEVER hold my iPhones, ever. I always use the Apple headset or my Motorola H710 or H720 BT headsets. I also have it in a Bumper at this point. Dropping calls is nothing new to the iPhone 4. I had issues with all my iPhones with AT&T.

Clearly you would be better off on a different network. Why put yourself through all of that frustration and aggravation? No phone is worth it when you can't even make a call.

Dude. Calm down. You realize there is plenty of places verizon sucks for people, tmobile sucks for people, sprint sucks for people, AT&T sucks for people. How do we resolve this?

Simple. Find the one that doesn't suck as much where you live and purchase a phone with them. Wow!!

I'd probably just switch carriers if I were you. No phone is worth the frustration.

^+1.5

a bunch of great advice :apple:

What I don't understand is that you knew AT&T was crap where you live before you bought the phone.
I know you love Apple and I hate to see iPhone users "leave the fold", but seriously you need to switch carriers. Android has far more in common with iPhone then most users care to admit. If you like one OS, you'll probably be satisfied with the other.

For someone like you who is a stickler for perfection I don't think you should have an iphone riddled with mistakes. Just sayin man...... You must be a hypocrite

Ha I'm not a stickler for anything, actually. I enjoy my phone very much, just saying "your" and "you're" are to differnet things. And when trying to read your points, its confusing, my mind see's them as you write them but it's used wrong....

I wish I had the free time you had to troll the EVO forums, but I dont own an evo so I can't, which begs, why are you here? Go watch a movie on that kick ass screen, thats my favorite thing to do with the EVO, big screen! Dude, wasn't attacking either, just tried to understand your posts, chill out kiddo!:D

Hey, I have an easy fix......If you don't like AT&T go to VZ....They blow just as much. oh, another tip....if you don't like the iphone 4 and it gives you fits, guess what??? You CAN take it back.

I have always said to base your decision off of network and not off of phone choice. I did my research before switching from Sprint to AT&T 2 years ago. I knew that Sprint and Verizon sucked in my house so I made the choice to switch to AT&T based off of the service they provided in my area and not entirely off of the fact they had the iPhone (that was the proverbial icing on the cake for my decision to switch).

Obviously you like Apple and their iPhone product or you wouldn't have purchased it and gone with AT&T. I understand you would be frustrated by the whole ordeal but no one made you choose to go with AT&T in the first place.

If I was in your situation I would have no choice but to switch to a provider that gave me better service. While I absolutely love the iPhone, I would also love the best phone I could purchase through Verizon or Sprint if they were my only options.

Fortunately for the consumers the competition between the companies is leading to innovation in cell phones. We benefit from that. With any of the service providers you are going to get a comparable phone that you can utilize first as a PHONE and second as a utility.

While you may be right, you really don't understand my (perhaps irrational) love of the iPhone (even with its many flaws).

An example of how much AT&T stinks:
