And pray his EVO doesn't spontaneously reboot like the one I evaluated did. And how about that malicious code? That's Windows Mobile-worthy!

I never had reception with AT&T in LA area.
I agree with many above. You don't like it, vote with your wallet. No need to be tied to a phone and whine about it. Just because it sucks in your area doesn't mean everybody else will have the same experience.

You're not going to believe my latest call to AT&T.

Speaking to CSR in Customer Care about my order, and the lady tells me I have to speak to Premier Support because they can't even SEE the order on their end.

I told her, "I CAN'T get through to them, and I'm fed up etc etc." She says the only thing she can do is try to transfer me again.

I ask for her supervisor.

Supervisor gets on. "Sorry, sir, we have to put you through to Premier Support."

I say, "It doesn't work!"

She says, "Nothing we can do."

I say, "Who do I speak to to make a complaint about your non-existent Premier Support."

She says, "Premier Support."

I say, "You're telling me I have to speak to Premier Support about not being able to get through to Premier Support."

She says, "Yes sir."

I asked if she minded me recording her saying that, and she said she DOES mind. I asked her how it was fair that she can record my conversations for "Training Purposes" and that I can't record her call for "Ridiculousness Purposes."

The line went quiet, so I zinged her with a, "Wow, the line's gone quiet, like a dropped call with AT&T."

;) I really hope they recorded the conversation. She was so unhelpful it kills me!

yet you still decided to stick with At&t after you get an unhelpful support is beyond me. VZ and Sprint or other carrier is phone a call away. Drop the iPhone 4 and or stick what works previously and wait down on all these fiasco. Otherwise, just keep calling them and get redungculous headache and come MR forums and moan..... rinse and repeat ;) good luck

Agreed. With the reception issues and the lack of customer support, there is no way I would stay with at&t. Good luck, OP. Keep tilting at windmills.;)

Well like I said I have never used it, but when about 10 of my friends who DO use it tell me that its the worst network they have ever used it has to mean something. I mean when that many people tell me the same thing I start to believe them. I am not sharing my opinion I am sharing the opinion of others I call friends. However it is FACT that you cannot pay AT&T $30 a month and get unlimited calling like I can with my phone company.

Yes but how many friends do you have that are happy with their service that you don't hear about. the only time you hear about something is when you hear complaints. Not many people go out of there way to praise the quality of a product or service.

Has anyone considered that the fact that the OP has gone through so many networks should tell you that the OP is probably picky about his cell service provider....

Hardly. I used different networks in the UK on Pay as You go depending on the deals, and in the US I used Voicestream/T-Mobile till the iPhone came out. My fondest memories of the iPhone were truly using it on T-Mobile the day it was unlocked. Thankfully I never had the irritation of using the original iPhone on AT&T.

After reading MOST of this thread, I'm confused.

I came over from Verizon on June 24th. Lets say a little over 2 weeks. I can not find a problem with AT&T at this point.

I called customer service on the day of the launch and was on hold about a minute. Nice lady answered all my questions. First bill came, all was correct, just as it was explained to me a week before.

All my calls have been great. Phone works great. I do not miss Verizon. Over 50% of calls I received while on Verizon went to voice mail. Phone did not even ring. Customer service was rude and my local Verizon store changed personnel every week. I knew more than they did and I didn't know much.

If my phone service was as bad as the OP claims his is, I would have bailed the first week.

WilliamG, on behalf of AT&T (as a shareholder), I'd like to apologise for the issues you are encounting.

Sometimes the systems at Customer Support go up the duff and many account details cannot be seen. I am assured this is something the Information Systems Engineers are working on.

If you please, you can email or write a letter to Ralph de la Vega (CEO ATT Mobility), explaining your situation, and I hope that you will reach an amicable situation.

Same situation - I've had a very good experience w/ ATT so far. I have no complaints, have not dropped a call yet, etc. I'm very happy thus far.

As you can probably see by my screen name, I am in Seattle as well. We switched from Verizon to AT&T in Oct in order to get the iPhones, and only regret that we didn't make the switch sooner. We have not had ANY problems with AT&T connectivity here in the Seattle are OR during our many travels around the country (WA, OR, CA, VA, MD, DC, SC, HI). I recently took a road trip from Seattle to San Diego and had no problems anywhere along the route, with the exception of a couple of spots in the mountains.

Additionally, I've had other carriers here in Seattle including Sprint, Qwest, Tmobile and do not notice any difference in the service. AT&T has served us just as well as any of the others.

Clearly you would be better off on a different network. Why put yourself through all of that frustration and aggravation? No phone is worth it when you can't even make a call.

Agreed. I mean long ago my parents had Sprint and you could never understand them (and they weren't the only ones or area I heard of that issue). I'd just get an Incredible if iphone went Sprint only as I found them very frustrating to use (the verizon rep I tlaked to told me they get the most switch over customers from Sprint. If you consider AT&T has the bigger customer base that really says something about Sprint that you still see more unhappy people with them). No way would I deal with that just for the iphone and I *love* my iphone.

Though honestly, I've had very little issues on AT&T's network here in seattle and I've been with them for 8-9 years (and have an iphone 4 right now).

If you're not experiencing dropped calls, then quite simply you're not spending enough time on the phone, I'm guessing. I can spend up to two hours at a time on the phone..., for example.

I used to live in Belltown (just off Denny Way) and it was terrible there, and for everyone I know.

I sure can't speak for you and everyone you know, but I've been using my iPhones (3G, 3GS and 4) in and around Belltown for the last three years with hardly any dropped calls. Like I said, the 3G speed isn't very impressive there, but no issues with phone calls.

This is much closer to my own experience with AT&T than the OP's is.

Why anyone would stick with a provider just for a phone and be unhappy is beyond me. If you are unable to make calls and unhappy with their customer service it seems like it's time to move on.

When most people try to have debates with me about my phone and why their phone and provider is better, I just tell them AT&T works for me and I like the iPhone. Should always pick the provider that works then find a phone that suits you.

Because I CAN make calls. I just can't always keep them connected. Some days are better than others, that's for sure. Some days I can make phone calls with no trouble, and other days I'll drop 4 or 5 calls, all from the same location, - just hanging out in my house. It's pretty ridiculous, actually.

But... but... I do love my iPhone THAT much. Crazy, eh?

Well there's not much more to say then but be unhappy with your provider because you love the iPhone so much. To each their own.
