Unfortunately, this is why I started recording all calls to customer service.
Whenever they say something suspicious I always ask if I can quote them.

I know the laws on recording phone calls are different state to state.
And more often than not you're talking to someone in a different state, if not a different country...

Apparently he was mistaken. At least that's what he could and probably would claim. At the time he had no knowledge of a new release.

I guess you got something despite there really being little reason for being compensated. In the future you might want to think thru a decision a bit more before leaping. For example, a little research would show you the new releases was expected. Buy a "dumb" phone as a stopgap until the release, even at full price you're looking at twenty bucks or so to have a backup.
