What I find odd is, we have 2 iPhone's on a family plan, every year they both wouldn't qualify for a full discount but a partial discount...

Well, this year so far only the primary number on the account is showing eligible for the reduced discount where the 2nd line it says an upgrade isn't available until 2/20/11...

Same thing with my account. But again, I just find it odd that single lines currently getting the free upgrade texts, while we're not. Def. make the call if you want the phone. At least they can hear what you have to say, and hopefully they won't say we haven't heard anything yet, which is really hard to believe.

Mine says full price. LOL.

So let me get this straight. My 64 gig iPad cost $699 and so will my new iPhone 4G? (based on full price of 3GS) PFFFFT. That is crazy. The iPhone is nowhere near worth as much as the iPad. :(

Smart?
Perhaps.
But really it was the only play AT&T had if retaining as many users as possible before the device is available on multiple US networks was/is a goal.
This + doubled ETFs clearly indicate AT&T's exclusivity ending sooner than later. Clearly. Now the only mystery is when and with whom.

Maybe Wu will report this in a Page 1 rumor. :p

Mine says this:

As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and an $18 upgrade fee.

I'm not sure that pertains to the iPhone or not. Just for reference I got my 3GS on day one.

Family plan...my wife's iPhone says 2/11 but she changed her number and they did a new contract I believe...my line is the 'primary' one...

I have a family plan as well. However, my wife is eligible for a new upgrade because she's had her 3G since '08, and is the primary, while I'm the second line and am only eligible 2/11.

But I just don't see how a single line is getting this free upgrade at the regular price, when they purchased theirs on launch day as well, but I'm not, even though I also purchased on launch day. Hmmm, odd!

What plan are you on? My wife and I are on a family plan as well with me being the primary number. We both bought 3GS's launch day and we share 450 minutes and each have $5 texts. After FAN i'm paying about 120 a month. Yet neither of our lines are eligible. Does anyone else have a similar plan but have their primary as upgrade elegible?

I'm on the Family 700 with 4 lines, two of them iPhones with the unlimited data plans...well over 200$ a month...

I purchased my iPhone 3GS with early upgrade pricing as soon as it was announced last year and am not eligible to receive a subsidy as of this morning. The second phone on my account, which is also an iPhone 3GS, was purchased in August of 2009 and is eligible to receive upgrade pricing as of this morning. This is upsetting. :/

I'm on the phone with ATT right now, from what the rep is telling me it looks like ATT has stopped making every iPhone eligible for a "reduced" equipment upgrade...

She put me on hold to speak with her supervisor...

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

I'm being told 2.20.11. I was a day one 3gs buyer. They will likely lose me over this. Not because I'm mad or think they owe me an upgrade (they clearly don't) but because if I have to wait until then I light as well go to vzn. I've always defended att, but in the last few months I've dropped more calls than in the first couple years combined, and my 3g speeds are still wildly inconsistent (and unacceptably slow a lot of the time).

Still, if I could have the new iPhone now, I'd probably reup (assuming no new carriers today). If I have to wait until other carriers are available, I think I'm out.

Let me know what you find out, if anything. Is it possible to use the upgrade of another line on your account by purchasing the device through the Apple Online Store and entering that number, or would that cause activation complications later?

mine shows this

Mine too. Go tthe 3GS on day one. I have the unlimited plan so my bill is over $100 per month.

Does anyone think that there's any advantage to waiting until iPhone OS 4.0 is released before buying the iPhone HD (or whatever it's called) if availability of iPhone OS 4.0 is not immediate? Or is the upgrade process probably pretty seamless?

In the past the new OS was loaded on the new phones. I would expect the same this time.

How can some people be eligible for an upgrade when they purchased the 3GS on day 1 like me and yet im not eligible. I hope this is something AT&T is just slow on changing. This is crap if I can't upgrade

It's been reported that those who spend more than $99 per month get to upgrade sooner and from the people I know this seems to be true.

Any idea what the iPhone is gonna cost with no update (on a family plan and have got the last 2 iPhones on launch date no upgrade till 2/11.)
