Will a FAN discount remain when I upgrade to the new iPhone? Or will I have to resubmit it?

Didn't read the rest of the thread after pg 2 :)

im upgradable but maybe att knows there exclusive deal is up soon so they want to get everyone into a contract. this is y i think they moved everyone up.

This is EXACTLY the case. They acts like their doing everyone a favor, but they're really just locking a greater number of people into a new 2 year contract with its $375 ETF. This is all because they will be losing their exclusivity very soon. In fact, we may find out today. And the reason they increased the ETF is to save them money because they are allowing early upgrades. Sneaky basturds.

i'm eligible. bought my 3GS a year ago but I have a 900 min plan. so if you spend more you are eligible sooner. i will however check out the 4G first and wait a bit to see if it's worth it or if another carrier gets the iphone because ATT's service is really bad.

I did check to see if my bill was due and it was. Paid it, checked status again and still Feb 20, 2011? What's interesting is when I checked the Apple site they have me as Nov 20, 2010! And of course that's the full retail no commit price.

omg if the phone was available tomorrow...that would be sweet!

I have a rumor that AT&T stores are getting shipments of 40 to 50 per store at 1pm, with sales of the new phone starting at 6pm.

Guess we'll know pretty soon how reliable it was. The way the information came to me makes it sound very possible. Also explains the cut off at midnight for grandfathering unlimited and higher early termination fees. :)

It means that that AT&T desparately wants to tie you into another 2 year contract a fast as possible because another very attractive deal is going to be announced soon. And the way they're paying for these early upgrades is by hiking the ETF (which some people will undoubtedly pay once Verizon or Sprint gets it).

Bought my 3GS day one. Partial upgrade, I didn't pay full price, but didn't get the full discount either, as I still had a year left from my 3G. I pay about $90 a month and I'm able to upgrade, Thanks AT&T. :D

Hmmm... same situation but I can't upgrade till 2011.Except I pay about $70 after FAN discount.

That's ********. **** You AT&T.

If you pay less than $100 per month and you have a 3GS, there is a very slim chance you qualify for upgrade pricing.

I don't get this, I asked why my upgrade price for the 3GS went from $99 to $149, and all they tell me is:
Avantika S: The prices for these device keeps on changing.
Avantika S: Offers may differ from time to time,it even changes within seconds.

To give my scenario in case anyone finds it helpful:

Signed up on 2/3/09 on a family plan with my wife. Added my brother and his wife to the plan a short time later. We have 4 lines sharing a 700 minute plan, unlimited messaging, and 4 iPhone data plans, with a FAN discount. Our bill is about $230 each month.

All our lines were eligible for upgrades in about March 2010 or so.

I pay about that amount too after my Fan discount 74ish. Same amount I paid last year when I went from 3G to 3GS. Partial discount.

Are you a person still on a legacy $20 data plan and on a 450 min plan as well? From all the posts I have read, in this thread and others it looks like this might be the tipping point. One has to spend X amount monthly reoccurring, not have upgraded too soon and also be on the higher data plan to bumped up with their dates.

I'm on the 450 minute plan, but I'm on the $30 data plan.

Sorry for the bad news but ATT usually only allows the "master number" to be eligible first... the rest of the numbers follow the normal upgrade time line...and they base it all on how much you spend each month.

they determine their master numbers by the lowest phone number . I got my iPhone in March last year because my Palm Centro was giving me issues and I was sick of Sprint. I ported my number to make it easier. Then in June, my wife's sprint phone died - so I got her an iphone and ported her number and we changed to the family shared minutes plan. Her number shows as the master because the city code shows 233. mine shows as the secondary as my city code is 587. That kinda stinks because all she uses is the phone, ipod, text messaging, and a couple of apps. I am the one who uses the most apps. Of course her data usage is higher than mine, since I am mostly wifi.

This is EXACTLY the case. They acts like their doing everyone a favor, but they're really just locking a greater number of people into a new 2 year contract with its $375 ETF. This is all because they will be losing their exclusivity very soon. In fact, we may find out today. Yes, because At&T is the only cell phone carrier with ETF.....

WOHOOO!

Mine just went from NOVEMBER to TODAY!

Damn you apple...I was going to consider the WinMo7 phone or Android...but now you might have me again! =p

Bought my 3GS Nov 09 -- already eligible!

Do people who bought a fully subsidized 3GS a year or less ago really expect a fully subsidized upgrade already?

I didn't... :) Mine has been saying for the last two months at least that I would be eligible on 11/21/2010 for a full discount, and was already eligible for some discount "at a higher price." NOW, it's saying I'm eligible for a discount with a new 2-yr contract, and sure enough, when I select it from their web site, I can upgrade to a 32GB 3GS for full discounted price of $299 (I have a 16GB 3GS).

So, I didn't expect it, but I'm pretty happy about it! :) Then again, I spend over $240 a month with them, so... :)

No news on the UK plans yet. Anyone?

You guys really pay a lot for your iPhone plans!
We have the choice of three iPhone suppliers and 4 iPad data suppliers!

I pay (out of contract) $29pm for 600 mins 500 texts and unlimited data.

Great, NOW I'm eligible. Unless some huge new features are brought to light today and there is an unequivical denial of the iPhone going to any other provider, I'm leaving AT&T in November. I can't deal with the dropped calls everyday anymore.

where would you guys recommend picking up the phone once it launches? online order (at&t or apple), at&t store, or apple store? i'm ready to come down with a mysterious case of swine flu to leave work and pick one up once they're available :D

What I find odd is, we have 2 iPhone's on a family plan, every year they both wouldn't qualify for a full discount but a partial discount...

Well, this year so far only the primary number on the account is showing eligible for the reduced discount where the 2nd line it says an upgrade isn't available until 2/20/11...

Wow!!!! This Is Amazing!!!

Just got off the phone with a supervisor at AT&T and after explaining to them this early upgrade phenomenon, she tells me that she has no idea what that's about!

And I even told her the site...."So she says, well it is a rumors site" Umm, not when customers are getting text messages saying they're eligible.

So, I can definitely upgrade using my wife's free upgrade, but then she will be locked into another 2 year agreement. My "real" eligible date is 2/20/2011, but I'm def. going to fight for that free upgrade pass.

I think it's great that many of you guys are getting the text messages, rock on!!! But AT&T should do this across the board, especially since it will lock everyone in for another 2 years......And it will only help them out for when people decide to jump ship with the various carriers that will eventually have the iphone.

Well, we'll just have to wait and see what transpires today at the WWDC:apple:
