I'm debating whether to upgrade or not. I'm currently have a 6 Plus on the Next 20 plan, eligible to upgrade if I pay one more installment. If I wait for the iPhone 7, am I wasting money for not taking advantage of the trade-in value with AT&T? Just need to talk this out with others. Thanks.

Yes you are wasting money as the extra patent is not credited towards the upgrade's payments.

So I have 2 installments left to pay at $85 before I'm upgrade eligible. After speaking with AT&T reps on the phone and in-store it looks like I can't pay off the $85 unless I'm upgrading to the 6s in the same transaction. I'm a little wary of going through the upgrade loophole with the iPhone 6 (is this a safe method?).

I'm wondering if I'll be alright just ordering it through the AT&T website when pre-orders become available and doing it all in one transaction (paying off the $85 balance and pre-ordering the phone), or if I should just avoid the hassle and go to an AT&T store on launch day? I'm in a major city so there's a million of them.

Anyone had this same issue in years' past or having it this year?

You can make your final payments now. I made mine the other day. They told me I couldn't but I said I know I can and its possible if you don't want to help me I'll call and ask for a supervisor or just go to my local store and talk to my buddy that works there and all of a sudden they were able to do it!

Yeah, that happened to me too. I have a 20% discount through work. I had to pay through the Premier site and it still worked just fine. :/

Still no dice. Went into a flagship retail store here and they can't figure it out either. Options are either pay off full plan or pay off remaining payment and trade in device. Which will blow because I would have to wait until phones are in stock. And then go back 500 times trying to get a 128 plus. Would be better off waiting to pay next month bill FFS.

They think something has changed because they recently were able to get people's next plans paid current to upgrade.

Just called back and the guy helped me handle this very quickly. Didn't even need to pull the supervisor card.

I was told you can go into an AT&T store or go to your account online, choose check upgrade eligibility and you'll be given the option to make a payment in order to upgrade.

Unfortunately that is not working either online or via the store for me. It shows me the option to pay to upgrade by paying the 12th installment, but it won't actually let me select it. Will only let me choose to pay the full plan.

ATT store couldn't do it either, and they tried to do it via the web chat as well and they didn't have the option either to pay off the 12th installment.

So far I'm stuck either paying off the full device, waiting until ATT has a plus 128 in stock to trade my phone in (aka when hell freezes over) or my next bill cycle lets me pay it off.

So I talked to an AT&T rep on chat tonight and he assured me that my phones are eligible as of my last payment and that I won't have any issues pre-ordering. I am still a little suspect though. He also confirmed that I'd get info with the new phone on how to return the old one so that is promising. That saves a trip to the AT&T store which would ultimately be a long wait. Thanks to those who replied with good info.

That's ridiculous. You should be able to pay to at least be able to trade-in and be eligible for pre-order. Tons have, including me. Wish I could see what you see online. Sorry, man.

I talked with an AT&T rep too. I'm on the 24 month plan with a 64G 6 and they confirmed to me that if I pay the full balance - in my case around $375 - the phone is mine and I can do what I want with it. They will even unlock it. I can then bring my new phone and use it while making no changes to my plan. This allows me to get the 6S through Apple and get away from AT&T. I'm planning to sell my phone to iCracked. They've offered $400 and about 10 days for the entire process.

I have one more installment to pay on my next plan for my phone and my wife's phone. They are telling me that I can't pay it because I have combined billing. They suggested that I go to the store and try to pay it but they said they aren't sure if they'll be able to do it or not. Any suggestions?

Go on AT&T and pretend to go through with a current ATT next upgrade with any of their next phones. Add it to cart and at some point, it will ask you to make a payment for your next installment. Pay it and immediately after that, just close the window.

Or you can go into the bill detail on the myatt website. Click the device that is on the next program and there it will have an option to view installments. Click the view installments and it will have an option to pay off early.

Or maybe not. And maybe the att store can't help you either

And that method you speak of is only allowing full payoff. Not pay to upgrade.

Just be aware this may work and it may not. In at least some cases they aren't letting you pay to upgrade. The att reps at my store were pretty surprised to see they couldn't do it and not a little apprehensive about the flood of issues heading their way once preorders went live.

The option to pay off my 12 installments was there yesterday, but when I went in this morning through AT&T's website it no longer lets me select any options to pay off the phone. It shows I owe ~$70 to upgrade early and ~$300 to pay it off completely, but no checkbox to let me select either. I'm a little concerned.

I have had some terrible problems with the att website before. I was done with my order for the note 3 2 minutes after the site went live, yet I got my phone a month later then other guys who casually ordered 2 hours later.

Not going through that again. I am torn between buying outright, or signing a contract. I understand that apple will only have next phones available.

If I were to buy one through next could I go into the att store on launch day or the day after, and change the phone to a 2 year contract, or pay it off and get it unlocked?

I tried that and because I have combined billing I was informed that it didn't actually apply to my Next installment. I would just pay the whole bill, but there are multiple lines with multiple people paying them so I'm not sure what to do and att isn't much help.

You ha

You have 14 days to change your mind.

I'm curious what AT&T stores everyone is going into. I'm actually shocked at what some people are saying about the reps in stores they are dealing with. We have such an awesome team and great management at my store some of the issues people are talking about never happen because of the people we have at our store. All I can say is, just make sure y'all are going into corporate stores and not authorized retailers

ATT website not the store.

Can anyone confirm whether Next + Down Payment will be available at preorder? If not, I might as well preorder through Apple. I'm only preordering via AT&T for the Down Payment option, so that monthly installment costs are halved.
