Can anyone confirm whether Next + Down Payment will be available at preorder? If not, I might as well preorder through Apple. I'm only preordering via AT&T for the Down Payment option, so that monthly installment costs are halved.
Only available through ATT

I would assume that yes it would be an option. The only catch is if you're offered based on credit check since the idea of the down payment system is to work with people that have bad credit and cannot get approved for the standard Next plan. If you're credit is good, it may not offer it to you.

Received this message from ATT yesterday. Has anyone else gotten anything similar? I've only made half the payments on Next 12 plan which would be 10 months of payments. Current balanced owed on phone is $474.50. image.jpg

That option should be available. Just select the option during the upgrade flow

Dang, I paid in advance to get ready for Saturday. Maybe I should have waited. Ha.

I got that also along with my wife. No one else on our family plan did or got the upgrade offer. I think AT&T noticed if a request came from Apple checking for an upgrade which I did for both of out phones.

Thanks guys. I'd rather pay more now than monthly and don't necessarily want to renew my contract, so I figure this is the best option.

I really despise AT&T. I went to the store just now to pay off next month's installment of $37.50 for my phone and the same for my wife's phone. They wouldn't let me do it. I was told if I couldn't pay the $37.50 without turning in my phone and my wife's phone today. When I look online where it says pay to upgrade I see the price of $37.50 but no option to just pay that. Any help with this would be great. Thanks.

Have not read further to see if you got this resolved but I called AT&T and paid just my last installment fee needed to upgrade. I logged out of my account and back in and it now shows I'm eligible to upgrade with no additional fees.

I will drop my phone off at an AT&T store (recommended by the rep I spoke with) as opposed to mailing it back in.

So if you are still showing online that you have an installment left, call and make payment over the phone. They can apply it to that specific line item to make you upgrade eligible.

Has anyone else noticed that Live Chat with a rep doesn't seem work on ATT's website?

Does anyone know if I can just pay it off on the AT&T website in the process of preordering? I wanted to order from Apple but if AT&T is my only option I'll just do that. I just don't want to go through the process of paying the installment and then it not let me finish the upgrade. All of this is due to combined billing.

A few of us in another thread are trying to figure out whether we can order from Apple on a Next plan, then add the down payment option (reducing monthly device costs) via AT&T afterwards. Does anyone know for sure if that's possible? I called twice and was told no, then yes. I then asked Live Chat and was told it's possible and that a note on my account would be made to allow me to do so.

I'm really trying to avoid ordering via AT&T, so if somebody knows for sure, I will be able to order via Apple with confidence.

I'm on the phone with ATT now and they can't seem to figure out how to let me pay the $37.45 Pay to Upgrade amount. She keeps saying they can't do it because the phone isn't even available for pre-order yet. I keep explaining that in general terms the iPhone 6S pre-order has nothing to do with making the Pay to Upgrade payment to be upgrade eligible. So frustrating.

You can do pay to be eligible for pre-order yourself online from your account page.

Unfortunately, no one can really know the answer to this question. Both Apple and AT&T said this was possible, but many are unable to "pay to upgrade" now and the Apple preorder tool is telling us we have a last payment to make and need to go to the AT&T store.

Best case scenario is that this somehow works out when you can actually preorder, but based on the level of confusion at every level (staff, mgr., reg. mgr) and access point (web, chat, phone, store) that is probably wildly optimistic.

Nope. This is not possible for myself and many others I personally know. The store couldn't figure it out either. Didn't work from web or app.

I heard attempting to upgrade to a currently available device online will prompt you to make the final payment. I could be wrong though.

So true. And now the website keeps throwing off Technical difficulties/system error messages.

According to a few other posters final/full payment was not necessary.

This is what I had to do to get mine to process. I had to go through the process of "buying" a phone which first led me to paying off my current phones. Although oddly enough it let me pay the ~$150 to pay off my wife's phone and trade hers in, but wouldn't let me pay the ~$70 to trade my phone in. I had to purchase mine outright.

Well, I feel bad for you all, seriously. No sarcasm or anything. I'd be pretty upset were I in that boat.

I spoke with an AT&T rep twice, and both said that I could do the Pay to Upgrade on my Next device during the pre-order tonight. Also, just as a test I went through with a currently available phone and it was going to make me pay that same balance off when I ordered. It will work tonight during the pre-order.
