Im currently eligible for upgrade with the next 12 plan I signed up for last years iPhone launch. If I upgrade it says Im required to mail my phone in within 14 days. Im thinking about selling the phone myself, will i be able to pay it off instead of sending it back after I select the option to send it back? Or do I have to pay it off first then upgrade. Basically I want to have a backup plan in case values drop and I won't be able to sell for above my payoff.

I called att yesterday with the exact same question and they said no. Once i upgrade and committ i cannot change it back, so i just paid it off. I owed $427.50 still on my 128plus and figured theres very little risk i the value dropping below $400 anytime soon
 
Got all the way through after paying my next installment and it tells me that my order has been cancelled because the line is not eligible for an upgrade. Of course there is no one to talk to at this time. Gotta love AT&T.
 
Here's what I get now when trying to preorder:

AT&T has reported a problem with the information related to the phone you previously purchased using AT&T Next. Before you can take advantage of your upgrade, please contact AT&T at 1-800-331-0500 to update your phone information (IMEI). Once this is resolved, you can return to the Apple Online Store and use your AT&T Next upgrade eligibility.
 
Got to the end of an AT&T Next upgrade with the Apple Store App, then stuck in a "there was an interruption while processing your order" for 15 minutes of futile button mashing. Took a screenshot and airdropped it to my laptop. Went back to the Apple Store App and got sent back several steps. Now I'm stuck earlier in the process with "we are currently unable to retrieve your loan agreement from AT&T."

Meanwhile I was able to preorder another phone on our account (a 6s) directly from AT&T. But the 6s+ isn't shipping from AT&T till late October.

Edit: gave it one more try and got an order confirmation number from the Apple Store App at 12:41 PM on my 6s+.
 
And this is the BS I'm getting from the ATT site - TOTALLY contrary to everything told to me by reps:

You’re Not Eligible for a Trade In
Unfortunately, you’re not eligible to trade in your device.
You can do any of the following:

  • Pay off your installment plan with AT&T. To do so, choose Pay Off Device.
  • Stay on your current installment plan with AT&T.
  • Locate an AT&T retail store near you to discuss your trade-in options. Click Find my store to open the AT&T Maps page.

Yup.. Same thing i keep getting / can't find my loan agreement,lol. Got my original phone back in 09' same account/line each year and now they can't find the loan agreement. wtf

The radio buttons for "Trade In Device" and "Pay off Device" are grey.

Anyone else having this problem?

Just keep trying. I had this issue for a bit but it worked itself out.

Let's face it - AT&T has most likely screwed everyone who took the steps to make sure they were upgrade eligible in advance of preordering.

Probably but i paid it off prior to today. to avoid the last minute hiccup
 
No att next option
I signed up last year for att next 12 and now when I click pre order it only shows either to buy outright or do a 2 year agreement I already paid all 12 payments
 
I got through okay, but I paid my most recent bill before it was due. I only paid tax on the phone, just short of $60 for a 128GB 6S Plus. First time I've had no issues when pre-ordering. I used the Apple Store app. Upgrade status for the last few days said I was eligible for an upgrade with a trade-in of my current iPhone.

Had hard time tonight getting through. Usually takes me about 10-25min every preorder since the store app came out. This year was way different! Had my 2 iPads and my phone out trying to get an order placed and kept getting a msg that Apple "can't locate my loan agreement with ATT." On my Mac, web page wouldn't even load in the beginning. Decided to give the Mac Pro a shot just before saying eff it and going to bed. Preorder screen came up and i actually took my time going through figuring it wouldnt work, but it DID !! .. Order placed with the regular deliv date of 9/25.

Just keep fighting with it and try to use alternate methods if you can.. Happy pre-ordering ppl !!
 
If I started a new NEXT plan on one line, can the new iPhone 6S+ be used on another line?
 
Does anyone know if you can just simply post a payment for the account to register the 12th installment in order to be upgrade eligible? When I go to payment it only gives me the option of paying off all the installments (20) instead of just one. Thank you.

You must do it over the phone. Tried to look online, then went via chat, said must call. Rep did it for both my lines and changes reflected 5mins later.

Also, in store too I would believe.

Cool beans. I was 20 minutes away from 2am here in Texas and I fall asleep. I just woke up and was like shiittttttt!! Went on Apple Store app, upgraded, iPhone 6+ silver. Got the order in, delivery date 9/25. ****ing awesome. Still got my iPhone.

You can do it online, sort of tricky. But not really. go to main page, or any page where you can attempt to make a phone purchase. It will give you the option to check eligibility for upgrade, and it is then that it will tell you to pay to upgrade or pay your installments. Choose pay to upgrade, agree to trading in your current device if it's in good state, then click continue. A new transaction will come up to put in ur credit card for the last installment. Then there will be a "continue shopping" button. Simply X out and preorder from Apple. Att site blows.
 
Not to mention ATT screwed everyone that wants a 2 year contract, Oct 16-23 are you kidding me? and its not even available on apple's website as an option so you're forced to do it through them smh...
