My recommendation is to check the apple website for which stores have stock. Apparently they update their inventory each night at 1am. I found a 128 plus at my local apple store this morning, ordered online and picked it up about two hours later. Cancelled my original att order (premier).
so i think im gonna troll the apple site for in store pickup for 6+ the next few days (have another person on the shared plan that wants a 6+, so ill keep my at&t order).
Question though, i'm hearing you can't do AT&T Next in store? What's the process to get that fixed though?

That sucks! Wow, what a process. I just said screw it and ordered through AT&T and will now begin the long wait. I'm going to bookmark your post so I can reference it if I have any problems when I want to upgrade again. What a headache! Keep me posted about any resolutions, and I hope you can get your iPhone soon!
They can not.. the only thing you can do is upgrade for a 2 yr contract... for $15 extra on your plan a month..
Because of all the hell I've been through, missinformation I've been given, and so on.. I plan on going back to the AT&T store and talking to the manager who gave me the bad info. I'm going to try to get them to credit the price of the phone to my account and change it to a next (they changed my fiances line to a NEXT.. but we got the phone online and it wasn't activated).
So I guess.. if you get one through Apple don't activate it? They should be able to change it to a NEXt.. just got to go in to AT&T.
Hoping this works... Assuming apple can see I actually have an account in the next few days... then we should be in business.. but as of now, both at&t and apple don't recognize my number. LOL. I wish things were simple. Wish you luck in getting your phone as well.
What do you mean? If I canceled my preorder.. I would pay the $399 for my phone from Apple (don't activate phone in store). Then.. go to AT&T and have them change the phone over to a NEXT plan and they will credit your phone bill for the price of the phone.
Actually.. you prob could activate the phone in Apple and it wouldn't matter. I didn;t activate my fiances only because it was mailed to us and I figured it would be best not to and just got AT&T.
oh, was confused. So I can pay 2 year upgrade price, get an iphone at apple store WITHOUT activating in store (for some reason thought it was required), and then bring that phone to an AT&T store and switch it to Next?
Please don't take my word 100% for certain. I am not sure if the phone has to be activated or not. I thought back in the day with the i4 or something I just brought it home, plugged it in, and then activated it.
AT&T did change my fiances plan from an upgraded 2 year to a NEXT plan, and just credited the bill. If you have any concerns always tlak to your AT&T store directly. They open a whole hour before apple does so that gives you plrent of time to talk to them.

Initial ship date 10/13-10/22 changed to 10/2-10/13 shortly after and has been sitting there since. Status has changed from processing, preparing to ship, and pending. No updates or tracking this weekend. Honestly feel like I won't get the phone until the actual estimated ship date.

So it looks like people who got there tracking # on Saturday will receive them in Monday, And those few that received tracking today will get them on Tuesday.

You and me both. For now I'm hawkeye-ing the apple site and stopping by the apple store tomorrow.
EDIT: And that's exactly what I did. I'm (most likely) getting my 6+ SG 16GB at Manhattan Beach now.

Nearest one to me is the Apple Store South Coast Plaza, Costa Mesa.
I will need to be able to do NEXT and click in store pick up on the Apple Site.
You can't do in store pick up with Next plan I tried and it even tell you when your about to finish our order.

Yep I was planning on doing that and I'm glad I didn't cancel my order before I figured it out.

Sucks that you can't do NEXT in the apple store, though I heard there's a loophole to still getting the phone?
In any case, I also live near South Coast Plaza - the apple store there brings back horrible memories for me back in the 3G S Era.
