The one and only thing that is going to keep me from going to Verizon is that there is a 99% chance there will be no unlimited plan from them. I'll keep mine on AT&T, thanks.
+1. I don't want to have to monitor my data usage every month just to make sure I won't go ever whatever cap they put in place.

I'd switch to Verizon only because they have 3G coverage here. AT&T has been promising it for 2 years now and still nothing.

I'm holding strong to my prediction from June/2010 where I stated that I think its coming to Verizon by Jan. 31st of next year.

My fiance's Verizon (and its 3G) works in all of the areas we travel, unlike my t-mobile dumb phone. (I can't wait to join the 21st century). From Phoenix to the Adirondack mountains in NY state, she always has service and never drops calls. So, with any luck I'll be getting a Verizon iPhone on January 31st.

I already have $211.00 in my "iPhone Coin Jar". Can't wait to cash in!!

I just looked at my join date. I guess it was July-2010 when I officially posted my prediction. Oh well...

I have been also waiting. I have $380 saved up for the iphone 4. I don't really know why, but I will never join AT$T. I got all excited when someone told me that it would be out by september of this year on Verizon. I sometimes cannot sleep because I am thinking about this toy that I want.

This is bound to happen.

Just wish I had not jumped on AT&T iPhone 4 so fast

I'm glad I didn't take AT&T's "as a valued customer, we'll allow you to upgrade with a 2-year contract extension for $18" bait.

Not that I'm automatically headed to Verizon. At all. Matter of fact, Verizon offered me the absolute worst customer service experience of all the major U.S. carriers. And while dropped call issues have haunted AT&T, for me it wasn't as large an issue as it was for some and their customer service was the best I've experienced (from a phone company) to date.
Obviously, your results may vary.

So I'm taking a wait & see approach. Hopefully, with the device possibly available on multiple networks, the end user will reap the benefits of some competition. Now... we wait.

so because AT&T wants to expand to more handsets Bloomberg reports that it must mean that the iPhone exclusivity is ending, way to overanalyze a continuously expanding business...

I'm very happily hacked on my iPhone and avoiding AT&T with a smile. I don't know that I'll go Verizon either, if they do the 'tiered data plan' scam.

Please do tell how you did that, and what company you use if any. Does it work well? I almost wanted to do that without the functionality of the phone, just for all it can do.

I do hope that most of you relize that not everyone wants a smart phone let alone an iPhone. And last time I checked AT&T doesn't just cater to the iPhone because it is a cell phone network! They are surpost to have multiable phones.

if people jump ship to verizon will at&t peeps see network improvements?

Not a network expert but this should be the case. If the problem is overusage of the network then I am hoping for a more balanced smartphone distribution. I think ATT has a larger smartphone install base then Verizon (recall hearing that and unverified).

What is this comment ["I do hope that most of you relize that not everyone wants a smart phone let alone an iPhone"] in regards to? I don't see how that relates to the article at all especially since the all the article talks about ATT increasing their smartphone offering to counter possibly losing exclusivity.

People are acting like the is 100% proof. It is not. AT&T is being AT&T and adding more phones. Plus I'm pretty sure AT&T would know if they are gana loose exclusivity

I walked into the AT&T Store in Long Beach and asked if I could have a AT&T SIM card. They would not give me one, even though on line people say just go in and ask for one.

LOL, I'm right there with ya buddy!

Wonder if AT&T will reinstate the unlimited data plan again in order to attract/retain more iPhone users?
I doubt it.

The bandwidth hog is not the carriers' ideal customer. The ideal customer is the clueless one who signs up for the top-tier plan but could easily get by on the limited, entry-level plan.

If they want to attract more iPhone users, they should offer cheaper plans. They did so in June and they signed up more subscribers.

It's interesting that apple would pit out an inferior iPhone out there with Verizon. Since there will be probably no way to surf the web and talk on CDMA. I'm surprised Jobs wouldn't just wait until 2012 and release it on LTE the right way to do it. I won't jump because of that alone.

Man I hope it happens soon. I am out of my AT&T contract, and I am waiting to see what the competition will do to the pricing plans. Right now I am on a 2nd hand Iphone 3, and I will stay there for a while.

People who think AT&T is good fall into one of two categories:
1) People who have no basis of comparison with other carriers.
2) Fanboys who defend any decision Apple makes, regardless of how bad it is.

I think the iPhone is the best cell phone ever created, but I resent Apple for strengthening and generating massive revenue for the #1 most corrupt and greedy carrier, AT&T.

I really hope this happens. I'm tired of the verizon whiners already both in the forums and out. hopefully this will finally shut them up and it will improve the service for those of us that are content and staying with AT&T

I'm excited about the pricing plan competition. After all these years AT&T is been milking us just to offset what they paid for exclusivity. Also AT&T need to improve their infrastructure instead of putting all their money to advertising. It's not that I'm leaving them when as soon as the iPhone is available in Verizon. But I'm really pissed for having an overpriced data but limited 3G coverage.

Gotta love people who absolutely refuse to believe that people might actually have a different experience then them. AT&T has hardly ever given me a reason to want to switch (ok, for one month of the 8-9 years I've been with them their connections got crappy but whatever was wrong got fixed. And I thought of changing from them the first year (cingular then) solely cause they had the sh*ttiest web page ever and made it very hard to pay online and that alone annoyed me enough to think about switching when my contract was up but then they got better web developers and it worked so I was happy. So it's not like I can't be a finicky customer myself). THe people I've talked with have always been pleasant (both in person and on the phone), never had an issue with cellphone coverage (here I'll admit I'm not a big phone user), and in general have been very happy with them. I'm not going to say whether Verizon is better or worse, I don't know, never experienced them (Except for the fact back when I first was looking for a cellphone I didn't consider them cause they were 20 dollars more a month for their cheapest plan than either cingular or t-mobile). I have experienced Sprint and no way would I go back (horrible horrible connection issues. Had to ask my parents to stop calling me on their cellphoen cause I never could understand them on Sprint).

Oh, and I hate Best Buy with a passion (This is relevant to my rant). I've never ever had good customer service with them or even mediocre. They managed to piss me off enough I won't give them money on principle. But I'm not going to deny that some one else might actually have gotten lucky and gotten good customer service from them (I just think they got lucky ;). But I won't say that they just don't know what good customer service is or are lieing). Just cause you've had bad experiences does not mean everyone else has had bad experiences. Even the worst company can have good moments.

I think AT&T works great for me and I fit non of the above categories. I love the ability to talk on the phone and use data at the same time, and I like my 3G speeds very much.
Furthermore I happen to think verizon is the most corrupt and greedy carrier, who nickel and dimes and screws over their customers constantly. So you see its all a matter of opinion and perception... not fact just because you feel a certain way.
