Doesn't matter to me. I love AT&T. I've never had an issue with the network or service. I would never go back to a CDMA phone ever.

People who think AT&T is good fall into one of two categories:
1) People who have no basis of comparison with other carriers.
2) Fanboys who defend any decision Apple makes, regardless of how bad it is.

I think the iPhone is the best cell phone ever created, but I resent Apple for strengthening and generating massive revenue for the #1 most corrupt and greedy carrier, AT&T.

I had Sprint for years and then I moved to an area where Sprint didn't cover. I switch to AT&T and never had an issue with my reception in countryside where live.

Once the exclusivity runs out I would really love to see which provider is the best for the iPhone and how they compare in certain situations.

Same here. The back story on this is as the first iPhone was being developed, many carriers were interested in Apple's new venture. Verizon was supposedly the carrier that was to get the iPhone first. Month before the launch of the first iPhone, Verizon came in with a bunch of requirements that Apple didn't want that would cut the iPhone down to size in performance.

Steve doesn't play that game. Two weeks before the launch of the iPhone he flew into New York to show the iPhone to AT&T's CEO. AT&T was desperate to grow their cell phone business and this was it. What Verizon refused to do with their network to enhance iPhone performance, AT&T did. Steve never forgot that. However, all good things much come to an end.

Thus, the question is not how much better the iPhone performance will be but how much did Verizon flex "the most reliable network" to work with the iPhone?

Very good point. IMO, both Verizon and Apple stand to benefit by this. And there probably is some give and take on both parties. The demand for the iPhone by Verizon customers is high and the competition in smartphones and Android can begin to squeeze Apple's position in the market. A CDMA phone makes sense from Apple's perspective. AT&T is also doing the smart thing by diversifying it's offerings with more Androids. all this is good for the consumer. People will choose their carrier on multiple factors including but not limited to service, costs, connectivity and a phone OS they like or enjoy.

I am interested in the monthly plans wars between these two. For me fortunately both companies have good reception where I live, so it all comes down who offers the best deal.

so because AT&T wants to expand to more handsets Bloomberg reports that it must mean that the iPhone exclusivity is ending, way to overanalyze a continuously expanding business...

Good grief. Something tells me there will still be people on this forum who believe the iPhone is never coming to Verizon after it has not only been announced but other people on this forum have been to the VZ Wireless store and actually come back with a VZ iPhone.

As someone who has never used simultaneous voice and data features but would love to use my iPhone on the Metro in DC, I look forward to switching as soon as Apple releases iPhone 5.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8B117)

Looks like Apple might be opening the iPhone floodgates. Finally.

I think that the iphone is coming to Verizon very soon, but anyone who says that they already have one now, unless they work for Apple, has trouble with the truth.

AT&T works fine for me too, I have no interest in going to Verizon. I would consider going back to T-Mobile for a less costly monthly plan though.

All I want is for Apple to sell iPhones unlocked. They are doing it already in Canada and Mexico. It's extremely pathetic and sad that Apple, an American company, have their product gimped in their own country.

Hypothetical---I have an iPod with a bunch of apps, some quite costly. If a Verizon iPhone comes out, do you guys think my apps would work on the VZW iPhone??

I really hope its true. I really want the veriphone

I thought the same thing, until I remembered that Verizon historically has handicapped some of their phones. I really hope they don't do this with the iPhone. But at the same time, I have a hard time believing the phones will be exactly the same on both carriers.

Viphone

Ive worked for Att eg Cingular eg Bellsouth mobility for 8 years... For the last 4 i have pushed iphone sales as hard as i could! I have been beat down by my own Co. And watched my commission checks dwindle each year as i sold more and more iphones for less and less and less and less.

Is Att a great place to work No.

Is Att a bad Co. To work for No.

Do they treat there employees like more than desposable gloves NO!!!

Im glad to see the Iphone go to the other guys maybe just maybe the corperate bloat at the top will finaly relize how important we are on the front line in sales and stop screweing us each year by raising our quotas and lowering are pay

LONG LIVE THE VERIZON IPHONE IPAD and any other devices steve thinks up.

This is just my oppinion and not the views of the Co. I work for and i speek only for myself.

Please take it in the light it is given if it dosnt get deleted by the board for free thinking.

There's a third category: People who have AT&T service and haven't had problems. Also remember, "good" is a very relative term when you're talking about cell phone carriers. IMO, AT&T is like the slime you find under a moldy rock. But Verizon is the slime poop; Back when I had their service, they attempted to rip me off a few times by changing my service, adding things I didn't want, never asked for, and never used but for which they tried to charge me $/mo.

Wow, AT&T will have to actually compete with Verizon to get iPhone customers? Gee whiz!! Now they'll actually have to get enough 3G signal towers up so people with smartphones can use them outside the confines of a city or town. Oh the humanity!!!

I walked into the AT&T Store in Long Beach and asked if I could have a AT&T SIM card. They would not give me one, even though on line people say just go in and ask for one.

that should work if you are an AT&T customer already ;)

This takes us one step higher. There will be so many new iPhone users and Mac sales will probably go up because some Mac users started out with an iPhone. So, more iPhone users means more Mac users. I think Apple is making a smart move if they announce a Verizon iPhone soon.

Give it a rest. They got training on the slew of new phones coming. Big deal. They have been selling plenty of phones in addition to the iPhone for a while. Windows Phone 7 is coming out with 8 handsets and the Galaxy S stuff is starting to catch on with the tablet coming out. Why would they try to make money from different sources? Just because they switch focus it means they are losing exclusivity? AT&T has never been allowed to run an iPhone commercial of their own. They know people will come in and get it anyway because Apple will advertise out the ass and the reputation of the phone. This is indicative of nothing. Keep dreaming. Plus, Verizon is terrible in Brooklyn and Queens if you are not outdoors. I won't defend the 5-10 dropped calls I get a day. Never happens on my Sprint line for work. Let's see how happy the Verizon iPhone owners will be when they will be bent over for all sorts of fees for data and then the stress on the network will give it the same issues AT&T has with their data network. Hopefully, AT&T will get more competitive with their rates as a result of Verizon obtaining the phone. I don't see this happening until next summer, when the next phone is due.

So instead of fixing their crappy network and ignoring the Golden Goose iPhone they are just going with a shotgun approach with a bunch of phones hoping we won't notice? On the other hand I don't really think VZ is going to do much better. I guess the marketplace will decide.
